Private Seeing Double

Scilla

This time, Scilla was certain she’d found a place all to herself. An ancient temple, untouched by sentient life for centuries, perhaps even millennia. It’s not that Xariah Pavanos Xariah Pavanos made for bad company, there’s just something about not being the premier rediscover-er of such places that really took the wind out of Scilla’s sails.

But now she could really dedicate her time to the latest mystery of her life: herself. This Force stuff was a constant curiosity in her life that had never been fully explored, and recent discoveries had only made the itch to pursue it stronger. Maybe here she would find what she was really afte-

Oh, you gotta be shitting me!

It couldn’t be. Scilla wasn’t alone. And not just that; It was Xariah. AGAIN. It had to be. Really, it’s not like there could be two of her or something.

She observed the figure from a distance, mulling over her options. Rather than one of the more sensical choices, Scilla opted for ‘childish revenge’, and chose to stalk up behind the unsuspecting explorer and start a new round of the same old joke as last time. Which is to say, sneak up behind her and scare her.

Really it was only fair, it’s what Xariah did to her.

And so when the moment was right, Scilla leapt up and...

“…Boo.”

Xarielle fresh from Ilum was back on her intended road. Studying the past, she had been knelt down studying the patterns carved into the column. The Force told her someone was here, but she didn't move at least not right away, it was when that sense of danger began to heighten that she began to ball and ready her fist. Her concentration on the patterns disturbed, she found herself slightly annoyed by the person's attempt. So she waited, Xarielle waited, and then, as soon as she heard the sound of the word, boo.

Her fist began to go in motion, Xarielle's body turned as she put her weight behind the punch and with an attempt to make contact with Scilla and their face. "Oh man, I am so, so, sorry." She apologized, "I don't um, I don't react well to people sneaking up on me." The Balmorran was up on her feet and dusted her knees and extended a hand toward Scilla. Her lightsaber swayed with her motion, clipped to her belt the young Jedi moved to help - if allowed - Scilla up. "I'm Xarielle Pavanos."

“Ack-!” Scilla stumbled back into a full pratfall, clutching at the center of her face, “By doze!”

That of course being, ‘I-just-got-punched-in-the-nose’ speak for “My nose!”

“You didn’t do that last time.” Scilla rubbed the bridge and cleared her voice with a few sniffles.

Xarielle? Oh man, had she been getting her name wrong this entire time? That would be awkward. But why act like she didn’t remember her? Surely Scilla wasn’t that forgettable.

“This some kinda joke I don’t get?” She took the proffered hand and pulled up, dusting herself off once she had.

Oh.

It clicked. “Purely out of coincidence, you wouldn’t happen to know a Xariah Pavanos, would you?”

"My sister," answered she without hesitation.
By the words, the person spoke it was clear they were acquainted on some level with Xariah. She picked up her bag and slung it across her shoulder and looked the person over. "Aside from the nose, I hope you're okay - but a word of advice, maybe sneaking up on a stranger isn't the best idea." Well, relative stranger, "relative... at least." Riah would have been more adept at playing such a game.
"Are you an explorer too?" She inquired sincerely.
A smile on Rielle's face as she wondered just how her sister might react to this, a small chuckle escaped her as she thought about it. Riah would be quite entertained about the whole matter.

“Sister indeed.” She remarked. There was certainly no denying that.

Getting punched was already water under the bridge, Scilla even snickered at her own misfortune, “Yeahhh, in my defense I thought you were somebody I did know.” As if being snuck up on like that would elicit a measured response from anyone in this situation. Scilla herself was one clenched fist away from socking Xariah when they first met.

“Sure am, name’s Scilla. Nice ta meetcha, Xarielle.” She gave a toothy grin and extended a hand in greeting.

“I’m not sure what’s less likely: meeting the same exact person, by chance, in a deserted ruin, twice. Or meeting their twin, by chance, also in a deserted ruin.” Scilla laughed again, then squatted down and began scrounging around in her pack. Out of it she pulled a dusty glowrod, smacking the tool a few times until it projected a warm orange light on their surroundings.

“What is it that brings ya here?” She asked, studying the column Xarielle had been looking at before Scilla interrupted.

Xarielle watched Scilla for a moment or two and only scoffed lightly, she did concede, "I'll give you that, Riah and I definitely share that Pavanos-family resemblance." Did they ever, she chuckled again and looked around the area briefly just to be sure she wasn't forgetting anything. "The pleasure is mine, nice to meet you, Scilla." Satisfied that she had collected her belongings she began to trudge ahead, deeper into the temple to further catalog and study the place.
"Exploration, history, really - I have been going to various temples and recording my findings," explained Xarielle plainly, "y'know I'm not sure that there's an official statistic on it but if there is - perhaps it's more common than one might think? After all, this galaxy seems to have a thing about twins. At least, according to legend anyway."
"What about you?"

"Guess I never thought of it that way…" She mused. Maybe it was more of that Force hocus-pocus, people always seemed to talk about it like there was some divine plan. Scilla rarely gave the notion any consideration, and already her short attention span had become dominated by their immediate surroundings instead.

"Well, same thing, I suppose. I've always been interested in exploring the past." She raised her glowrod at a nearby wall, illuminating the dilapidated bas-relief carved into its stone construction. It seemed to depict a mighty Force-user from an age long forgotten.

Scilla stared at it for several moments before snapping out of the reverie, "But lately all this Force-related stuff has been a bit more… relevant." She hustled to catch up to Rielle, "It was your sister that got me curious about it, actually. We found an old cave of, uh… kyber crystals." A snap of her fingers as she remembered the word, "Got me thinking about it, I guess. I've known about my Force powers for a while but never trained or nuthin'."

"You've got that too, right? The Force?"
A cue that Scilla did not recognize had subconsciously tipped her off to Rielle's Force presence. Well that, and the fact that her sister seemed to have it as well.
