SPECIAL FEATURES
Magnetic tips on the feet of the droid.
Curling: The Sekret has the ability to curl up into a cylinder that can fit into a standard astromech socket on a fighter, the droid contains a probe that would allow it to access the ship’s systems.
A variety of tools
Prehensile tail able to curl up over the droid or be used to allow the droid to utilise its tools.
Able to store 15 sets of hyperspace vector coordinates in its astrogation buffer
Able to operate in the vacuum of space.
Plugged into a fighter the droid can monitor a fighter’s systems and correct technical issues as well as providing backup to the pilot.
Toolbox: The Serket contains a variety of tools to meet almost any job. While not as capable as a dedicated repair droid the Serket is able to perform most normal shipboard repairs, but also has more utility than a dedicated repair droid.
Secure Comms: The Sekret comes equipped with the Hermes comms system allowing it to communicate in a safe and secure manner.
Lacks any combat weapons and armour aside from the arc welder and the claws. In combat, the SA-1’s best option is to run and use its other abilities to provide support.
Can’t speak: Like many Astromech droids out there the SA-1 is unable to speak and instead communicates via a series of binary clicks or through other computers.
Lack of armour, the Sekrey only has a chasis, and is practically unarmoured, even a stray bullet or blaster can damage the droid, possibly critically.
While the production of the Archimedes Maintenance droid proved to be a marked success, landing Locke and Key Mechanics a contract with the Galactic Alliance, the droid was overly specialised. All it could do was provide repairs and maintenance, which was all it had been designed to do, fitting it’s market very well. Designing a new droid then means looking to a new market, while learning the lessons of the old one. The market that Locke and Key mechanics settled on was the Astromech market.
The popularity of Astromech droids was a widespread fact, although they could be considered a subset of the standard engineering droid they had grown into more than that. The Astromech droid was as much a companion as a repair droid. Many small ship owners chose to purchase an astromech over a standard ships droid for the simple fact that as well as being able to provide repairs to the ship the droids came with enough personality to provide companionship while you were travelling in the lonely expanse of space. While they might not have the capability, the versatility of the pure maintenance droid, nor the full support of a companion droid, they occupy a middle ground.
Within Locke and Key’s own stable of products, the Sekret was designed to fall in the space between the Archimedes and the EX-1000. Providing, repairs, companionship and support, while not being as capable in either field as the specialist droids. And like all Locke and Key droids, the Sekret came with a twist.
The biggest failing of the Archimedes was it’s hover ability, while it did allow the droid to get anywhere, it limited it in terms of the strength that could be applied to any situation. This was not generally a problem for the droid since they were designed to operate in larger numbers so multiple droids could add their strength to a situation. The Sekret, however, was designed to operate solo, so it needed to be able to provide the leverage to shift debris or cargo by itself. To this end the engineers knew it had to be a legged design, choosing to base it on the Scorpions native to the galaxy. The reasons for this design were the multi-legged concept gave the droid an increased stability, as well as a low centre of gravity which helps it move around when carrying an object, or when it’s on unstable footing. The Sekret also comes equipped with magnetic tips on its feet, allowing the droid to move not just along the floor, but along the walls or the ceiling. This is particularly useful given the larger footprint of the droid compares to the R-series. This highlights the difference between the two droids, the Sekret is primarily designed for use in small starships rather than the fighter focus of the R-series. That isn’t to say that the Sekret is unable to be used in a fighter, the droid can fold itself into a cylinder the same width as standard astromech droids allowing them to use the normal socket on a fighter.
Filling the middle ground between the Archimedes and the EX-1000 the Sekret also comes equipped with an internal comms unit, one that can allow messages to be broadcast back and forth. However, unlike the EX-1000 the communications package wasn’t as capable and was unable to extend as far as orbit, only exchanging as far as a standard commlink it was primarily designed to allow commands to be provided to your ship, although messages could also be sent using the secure transmission system of the Hermes.
