Self-Development Questions

So I've been through two false starts under a master with this character, and I really don't want to mess around just to get dropped once more.

Solution? I'm thinking about self-training at this point, now that Gen at least knows she is Force-sensitive.

My goal with this character has nothing to do with Jedi business. I really don't plan on developing Force powers much at all. So what am I looking for, then? There are three or four very basic abilities I would like for Gen to have. They are:
  • Choke
  • Mind Trick/Mind Trick Resistance
  • Vision
  • Lightning(?)
Can I 'handwave' a couple of these (Choke and Mind Trick) since I have indeed tried to work with a master? And for the more advanced skills (Force Vision and Lightning), what is my best route? As I've said before, this character isn't supposed to ever become a super-powered Forcie, so would it be alright to do a brief bit of self-training (or even a single training thread with someone, if they are interested) and move on from there?

It depends on what your master was teaching you. If they started teaching you mind trick, you could know the basics. Same with vision.

Choke and lightning, however, are both rather strong powers. Choke being high-end Telekinesis, and lightning hard to do without being full-on darkside.

I never got anywhere with my masters. I'm a little burnt out on people taking my character on as a student and then dropping me without even getting a training session in. That's why I need to know how to go about self-training.
