OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

  • Intent: To develop a gene therapy to counter possible ixetal cilona contamination
  • Restricted Missions: N/A
  • Primary Source: N/A
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Name: Sel'Sabagno Treatment (formal name)
  • Manufacturer: Aurora Industries
  • Homeworld (optional): N/A
  • Production: Limited
  • Affiliation: Aurora Industries, Closed-Market
  • Modularity: No
  • Legal Status: Expected to be legal in most parts of the galaxy
  • Ingredients: Modified Balosar DNA/RNA, Gene modifying agent
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
  • Classification: Gene Therapy (Serum)
  • Method of Consumption: Injection
  • Average Life: Permanently modifies a subject's genetic structure.
  • Nutritional Value/Allergies/Side Effects/ Purpose: The therapy has no nutritional value, but side effects can include moodiness, stiffness in joints for several days after injection, rash at injection site. If treatment is rejected, subject will have a severe reaction such as internal bleeding, atrophying of the muscles, blindness, and possibly death.
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • The treatment is designed to give a subject the same resistance to toxins, such as ixetal cilona or other poisons, that the Balosar species has naturally.
Strengths:
  • Grants a subject the same level of resistance to toxins and poisons that the Balosar species has if the treatment is accepted.
Weaknesses:
  • If treatment is rejected, a subject can experience horrible internal bleeding
  • If treatment is rejected, a subject's muscle mass will atrophy, leaving them irreversibly weakened.
  • If treatment is rejected, a subject's sight can be irreversibly ruined.
DESCRIPTION

As part of ongoing research by Aurora Industries's Bioengineering Division into the effects of ixetal cilona on sentient beings, the scientists at Rhinnal began collecting blood and tissue samples from Balosar volunteers. The goal of the scientists was to create a gene therapy for use in treating ixetal cilona's effects on the body by introducing the Balosar's natural high resistance to near immunity to toxins such as their major export.

Using a gene modifying agent, and also isolating the specific parts of the DNA in their Balosar samples that created that resistance, the scientists began testing their treatment on death stick addicts that wanted to get clean and a control group that never had death sticks and would be exposed to contamination. The results were promising as roughly half the subjects accepted the treatment, displaying resistance to the death sticks' ill effects.

Unfortunately, the other half of the subjects began to reject the treatment. Some symptoms were not as severe as others, suggesting only a partial rejection had occurred. The more severe cases suffered from horrible internal bleeding and muscle atrophy within hours of treatment taking place. One was blinded, and two subjects outright died from multiple organ failure.

However, looking at their success rate and modifying the treatment slightly, the Aurora scientists felt they had a product that would be useful for many in the medical field trying to treat the side effects of death stick use. They did make sure to put warnings out that certain beings should be warned about the treatment.
