Renegade Rodian
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
Everyday, the Helix Syndicate intercepts an incalculable of transmissions throughout the Pentastar Alignment. These transmissions range from heavily encrypted, top-secret military communications to someone purchasing a new hydrospanner through a holonet storefront. The amount of data that flows through the Syndicate’s listening posts cannot be overstated. It’s far more than a small army of specially trained communications technicians can handle, however. To actually make sense of this data, the Helix Syndicate relied on black market, bootleg versions of the H01 Artificial Intelligence.
This was not an optimal situation.
The H01 is old technology, and had been even when the Syndicate first began using it. It was also made with automating star destroyers in mind, so while it was capable of fulfilling the tasks required of it, its effectiveness and efficiency was somewhat… Wanting. Under new leadership, the Helix Syndicate started the process of replacing the much older H01 with a newer, proprietary AI: The Seneca-Class.
Much of the Seneca’s infrastructure is based on the H01, but this is where the similarities end. Senecas are made for sifting through and organizing vast amounts of information, decrypting transmissions. They are not capable of doing anything else. This makes them rather limited compared to other AI, which typically have more glamorous jobs involving hijacking large computer networks and other amazing feats of slicing.
While it is a very powerful piece of technology, the Seneca was not made to single-handedly run the Syndicate’s entire intelligence gathering operation. Despite being intelligent enough on its own, it still requires oversight from various technicians. These technicians are typically in charge of setting operating parameters and objectives for the Seneca, then monitoring progress as it collects data. They will make adjustments based on how much irrelevant or bad intelligence they receive, and transmit their results across the HSNET periodically.
They are also there to ensure the AI does not develop independence or go rogue. Such an event would be catastrophic for the Syndicate, potentially bringing about violent upheaval so severe that the organization would be very unlikely to recover. Not like anyone would ever do anything with that information, though.

- [Strength] Seneca-Class Artificial Intelligence Units are capable of processing, analyzing, and cataloging astronomical amounts of data at a time.
- [Weakness] Seneca-Class Artificial Intelligence units require vast mainframes to inhabit. To deprive them of that or install them on smaller devices would be to make them next to useless, as these will not have the power necessary to carry out its operations.
- [Weakness] Speaking of which, there is no exaggerating the amount of power a single Seneca unit requires. Any fluctuations in power supply will prompt them to shut down - and cause a significant inconvenience to the Syndicate in doing so.
