Modularity: Can be coloured and camouflaged as needed.
Production: Mass
Material: Duraplast etc.
Classification: Anti-Ballistic, Anti-Environment, Anti-Blaster
Weight: 12kg
Quality:
Overall: 7
Vs. Lightsabres: 4
Vs. Blasters: 7 on torso, 6 on limbs and head
Vs. Shrapnel & Slugthrowers: 8
Vs. Elemental: 8
Vs. Vibroblades: 7
Vs. Primitive (bows, knives, muskets etc): 9
Special Features:
With the growth of the Coalition and Firemane, CEOs [member="Siobhan Kerrigan"] and Tegaea Alcori needed a modern armour set which could provide flexibility but also protection.
At first the inspiration was the old stormtrooper armour, but Firemane decided to look back further to the more durable Clone Commando armour from the Clone Wars. This armour had always been tougher and more flexible than stormtrooper armour was, and served as a good platform to modernise.
In basic, the Vanguard armour is designed for a variety of roles. Since the Coalition and Firemane engage in combat both with modern and primitive weapons, defence against both was required. The ability to work in a variety of settings, from vacuum to underwater was also advantageous. With this in mind, the armour was made to be lightweight and not restrict movement by having armoured plates over the most vulnerable areas supporting the regular armour beneath. On the chest this takes the form of ablative plates which absorb blaster bolts or other attacks enough to prevent immediate penetration but are generally only useable for one such impact.
As the armour is mass produced and the helmet comes built in with low-light targeting, communications and other HUD features. The armour is fully sealed and has half an hour of air, but this can be supplemented with more if needed.
The armour naturally has downsides. Although Duraplast offers relatively decent lightsabre protection, it is only really against glancing blows. A direct, heavy impact will cut through it like butter. Further to this, heavy weapons such as laser cannons, thermal detonators, artillery etc will easily penetrate the armour. Military grade blasters will also penetrate the armour on a direct hit. Even if the ablative on the chest absorb one bolt, they will not absorb a second. Finally, although the helmet can filter out most toxins, switching from filtering to backup takes time, which can be potentially fatal in a combat situation.
