- The Sentinel's Stun Tentacles are slightly more than two metres long when fully extended, flexible yet hardened enough to be difficult to sever with the average vibroblade (though a lightsaber will, of course, cut right through), and impressively versatile - they have four main ways of neutralising threats, firstly paralysis beams, secondly directed EMPs, thirdly contact-based stunning, and finally physical restrainment, whether by grasping foes with their claws or restraining them with their tentacles in a manner comparable to a constrictor snake. If local legislation permits it and their charge is of sufficient importance, the claws at the end of a Sentinel's tentacles can be converted into vibroweapons, though this is far from standard; similarily, expensive models may be outfitted with a short-range concussion blast mode.
- You Shall Not Pass: Well-armed and armoured by the standards of security droids, Sentinels are more than capable of handling mundane threats such as gangsters, Ewoks, and thieves, though dedicated battle droids are probably a better choice for actual warfare.
- Eternal Vigil: Sturdily built and requiring only minimal maintenance, Sentinels will maintain their watch until destroyed or ordered to desist.
- Compact: Sentinels are foldable for storage and are notably often stored behind hidden wall panels in Vanguard starships.
- Singular Purpose: The Sentinel is a guard first and only - it can lift crates and the like if directed to, but that's about it in terms of versatility.
- Slice and Dice: Sentinels have no protection whatsoever from lightsabers and the like.
Originally envisioned by Vanguard's security specialists as a "Classy, Compact, and Capable" in-house security solution for its yachts, it quickly became apparent that the shipwright lacked the expertise to properly complete such a design, let alone mass-produce it.
Turning to Trivohld Technologies for assistance, an agreement was reached in which the Erakhis-based manufacturer would take over responsibility for the project and retain full production and sales rights, with Vanguard, in turn, receiving favourable rates on bulk purchases and the rights to have the design manufactured within its own facilities or through contracted factories should TriTech's shipments cease or be interrupted.
Given the primarily nonlethal nature of its weapons and programming, TriTech's sales division saw no reason to restrict sales of the new droid, instead opting to make it available to any and all paying customers not blacklisted by the company.
