Nobody expects much from refugee kids. Serena couldn't tell you where she'd been born properly. From what she could gather, her family had floated around in a flotilla of ships, fleeing some of the biggest fighting. Eventually they'd dispersed, people heading out onto different worlds, getting absorbed by the local population. Her family had come close to the Core and then...
Well, something had happened. Because Serena was found alone on Chandrila, barely more than a scared toddler.
Luckily for her, she'd ended up on a world that gave a damn. Refugee girls with no parents were taken care of. Or rather, attempts were made, at least. Placed in the care of a government-run children's home, she grew up with some structure and the ability to grow. Serena proved to be quite clever, excelling at her schoolwork. She loved to learn, especially anything involving galactic history. Reading about the ancient cultures that'd been discovered and the long, vibrant history of the Galaxy was easily the highlight of her education. On the encouragement of her teachers, she made plans to apply for university and study Galactic History, or Archaeology.
Then odd things started to happen. Little accidents were common throughout Serena's early life but it was always put down to an overactive imagination and clumsiness. Things just don't fling into people's hands, right? Once she was a teenager though, there was no denying it any longer. Serena could feel the Force. Now, a new option presented itself: the Jedi Order. For someone who'd grown up as a left-behind refugee, the idea of getting to help people and learning plenty of new things appealed. She could learn from wise masters and brave knights. She could explore the Galaxy. And, after some cajoling and pointed questions, she found out that she could still study Archaeology whilst being a Jedi.
That made it an easy decision.

Strengths and Weaknesses
+ Confident - Serena is headstrong and sure of herself. She doesn't shy away from meeting new people and has enough belief in her own abilities to put herself forwards.
+ Clever - Serena is bright and thinks quickly. She can take on new concepts without much fuss and work them through.
+ Curious - Serena loves to find out new things and figure out people. There's very little that isn't interesting to Serena, whether it's the columns of the Senate building, to the food customs of the Kuati Industrial Yards, and even the fossil record of Force-attuned life on Tython.
- Snarky - Serena thinks quickly. A little too quickly, sometimes. She can be entirely too snarky sometimes and put people off before they know her. Making friends is not her strong point.
- Arrogant - Being clever makes Serena a little haughty sometimes. She often thinks she's the smartest in the room and can overlook other people's contributions. She's that girl in group projects.
- Lightweight Fighter - Serena hasn't thrown a punch since she was six. She's slender, small and seriously not a fighter. Without some serious training, she'll get knocked over by a stiff breeze.

Serena is a skinny slip of a girl. Her most significant, obvious feature is the mop of curly, dark hair that she sports. She usually wears it loose, keeping it fairly short. The curliness is a perpetual annoyance to Serena, who has never managed to straighten it out for longer for than a day. Dark brown eyes peer out from her sharp features, usually flecked with curiosity or amusement. Her thin lips barely smile, but when they do, her cheeks dimple hard. And dimply cheeks do not a serious person make, in her opinion.
She's fairly small and quite slender, without much in the way of muscle, bulk or broadness about her. Whilst not being unhealthy, nobody could ever call her fit, either.
