BIOGRAPHY: Born on the fringes of Republic Space to a pair of frontier farmers, young Serl spent the majority of his childhood tending to bang has and looking to the sky, dreaming of adventure. From the time he could read Serl became enthralled with the exploits of Republic heroes such as Wedge Antilles, Han Solo, and Luke Skywalker. Two of them had come from humble beginnings on a backwater planet, which gave him hope for his own future. Serl continued to work on his parents farm until his eighteenth birthday, when the homeschooled backwater son of nerf herders scored high enough on the Republic Flight Academy's holonet test to net an interview.
The interview went well and the dean, a flight commander, was convinced that Serl had in fact not cheated as they had initially suspected. He was offered a place at the academy and after some thought accepted, leaving his homeworld behind to make real his dreams on Coruscant. Serl left his family behind to pursue his dreams, a decision he still occasionally questions.
Serl's time at the Academy taught him the in's and outs of flying a X-A5 model X-Wing which he excelled at. He also performed well enough on the transport and assault tests to be overly qualified to fly those. The kid from that backwater planet that nobody cared to remember was a natural. After he graduated at age 20 he went on to serve as an Dogfighter in the Republic's Starfighter Corp. He was living the dream.
He carried on like this for two years, fighting the enemies of the Republic and helping them absorb smaller systems, and in that time grew disillusioned. This was not the Republic he'd grew up reading about. It was corrupt, expansionalist, and borderline dictatorial with certain policies being passed in the senate. He didn't feel proud of many of the systems he helped to absorb and planned on getting out at the end of his term when Rosche came about.
That was the day Serl lost his left leg, left arm, and left eye, along with ninety percent of the hearing in that ear when he was shot down by an Anti Aircraft turret on a Sith Cruiser while he was engaging enemy starfighters. His X-A5 took a burst that ripped through it's shields and nearly fried the cockpit, causing it to crash violently on the asteroids surface. Serl only survived because of a passing Republic medical transport that landed and evac'd him seconds after he was shot down. After months of intensive surgery and painful recovery Serl appeared almost as him old self, apart from the surgical scars that now covered large portions of his body.
In truth, he was almost half machine. False eye, limbs, cybernetic ear. It took him a while to function without feeling fake.
He now wanders from job to job in a junker he bought with his final check as a Republic Pilot, lacking a true purpose and disillusioned with the government he once served.
