OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To codify FN-999's personal therapist, a character who will soon come to play a major role in his life.
  • Image Credit: [Glare silently.] by cathuia
  • Role: Therapist/Clinician
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Links: Chiss
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Age: 41
  • Force Sensitivity: Knight equivalent
  • Species: Chiss
  • Appearance: Lamaty is a lean Chiss male of average fitness standing at about 1.8 meters tall, with impeccable posture. He is rarely ever seen without a spotless uniform, whether it be medical garb, an Imperial officer's suit, or formal Chiss attire.
SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Sermala'ma'tyrvan
  • Loyalties: The Empire
  • Wealth: Lamaty receives a generous salary directly from the Imperial treasury, allowing him to live a comfortable upper-middle class life. Lamaty owns a spacious apartment in central Borosk where he lives and conducts most of his work when not directly accompanying FN-999.
  • Notable Possessions: Rotating globe of Csilla
  • Skills: Lamaty is a highly skilled therapist with a doctorate in psychology. Thanks to his proficiency in the Force, Lamaty is an excellent telepath, easily capable of worming his way into unprotected minds and establishing himself in his target's unconscious. Once established, Lamaty can influence a being's behavior and experiences in multiple different ways: via mind tricks, memory walks, and illusions. Lamaty is especially skilled at memory walks, being able to not only force a target to relive their worst memories but also actively intervene in the memory, manipulating the environment of the flashback to his will. While Lamaty typically uses his telepathy in a clinical context to help patients realize their repressed traumas, he can also use it offensively to break the minds of his adversaries. While a powerful telepath, Lamaty is incapable of using the Force for physical attacks and can use only basic telekinesis.
  • Languages: Cheunh, Basic
  • Personality: In general, Lamaty is exceptionally cool-headed and rational, rarely ever expressing strong emotions. However, he does have a playful side that comes out with those he is close with, which he usually expresses through snark and deadpan humor. Despite the longstanding Chiss prejudice against Force users, Lamaty holds great respect for his species due to their marital and technological prowess, believing that the Chiss have played a major role in advancing society in Csilla and beyond. Following the deaths of his family and the destruction of Csilla, Lamaty has stopped hiding his Force abilities, cutting his last ties to the remnants of the Ascendency and committing himself fully to his practice.
COMBAT INFORMATION
  • Weapon of Choice: Words and the Force. If all else fails, pistol and fists.
  • Combat Function: Lamaty's mental abilities can be quite potent on an undefended mind, which he can manipulate to make a being wound or even kill themselves and others. However, Lamaty is largely at the mercy of Force-resistant species, well-trained Force users, and large groups of non-Force users, having only basic self-defense training to fall upon should his mind tricks fail. Furthermore, being a therapist rather than a trained soldier, Lamaty has little understanding of combat tactics and a low tolerance for physical pain.
  • Force Abilities (Force Users Only):
    • Telepathy
      • Mind Trick
      • Memory Walk
      • Force Illusion
      • Move Object
      • Force Push
      • Force Pull
Strengths:
  • Psy.D.: Lamaty is a university-educated physician with an excellent track record in personal therapy. Even without the covert aid of the Force, Lamaty is a highly competent practitioner, capable of slowly but surely mending even the deepest rooted fears, traumas, and personal insecurities through routine therapy.
  • Mind Traveller: Thanks to his latent Force aptitude, Lamaty is a brilliant telepath capable of freely traveling through a person's mind and accessing as well as manipulating their memories.
  • Cool Head: Lamaty is exceptionally calm and collected, almost never letting his emotions get the better of him. Consequently, he is capable of making sound decisions even under significant stress and successfully prevents his personal biases from interfering with his therapy.
  • Politically Savvy: Trained for over twenty years to become the patriarch of the now-extinct Andilay Clan, Lamaty is familiar with political intrigues. A skilled public speaker, Lamaty excels at using the mental state and moral compass of his rivals to expose their flaws for all to see.
Weaknesses:
  • Civilian: Lamaty has no formal combat training, and can easily be subdued by groups of trained soldiers or even bounty hunters.
  • Pariah: As a result of his role as the therapist of the commander whose legion destroyed the Chiss Rebellion, Lamaty is a pariah to many Chiss, especially those under Imperial domination. With his clan eradicated by the Imperial tribunals, Lamaty has no close friends or family to fall back upon, leaving him to face the ire of his fellow Chiss alone.
  • Perfectionist: Lamaty holds himself to an exceptionally high standard and will often tire himself out stressing over the smallest imperfections.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

In 859 ABY, Sermala'ma'tyrvan was born into the Andilay Clan, a small clan affiliated with the Inrokini family. His mother, Bolmawter'fol'cemella, was the matriarch of the clan, while his father, Yantenco'xan'iolosarn, was its patriarch. As the heir to the Andilay title, Lamaty lived a comfortable childhood in his parents' estate, where he showed early promise as a diligent student. Raised almost exclusively within his clan's various properties, Lamaty's social circle was limited to other Andilay and the children of other clan heads affiliated with the Inrokini. Nonetheless, he managed to gain a small circle of friends, many of whom would form long-lasting kinships with each other.

When Lamaty was five years old, Terfolcem gave birth to a second son, named Gadjadov'ee'rosawm. Over the years, the two became very close, sharing in their triumphs and struggles as the pair of brothers navigated their roles as heirs to the clan and prepared to take on the expectations placed upon them.

At the age of 10, Lamaty concluded his childhood education and became a cadet in the Chiss Expansionary Defense Force, where he would serve for the next five years. During his service, Lamaty found a calling for psychology, desiring to better understand the mental workings of his peers and his species as he prepared to inherit the clan. By the age of fifteen, he was a junior medical officer helping Chiss soldiers heal both their physical and mental injuries. For the next two years, the young doctor refined his craft, gaining a reputation as an excellent psychologist and being reassigned away from the front lines and dedicate his time solely to treating patients with severe mental trauma. Here too he excelled, and by the age of seventeen he was regarded as one of the finest clinicians of his generation. The prestige of the Andilay Clan grew, and Lamaty grew wealthy as a result. It all seemed too good to be true.

To a certain extent, it was.

Ever since transferring to the psych ward, Lamaty had been unconsciously using the Force to peer into the minds of his patients, giving him access to repressed thoughts and urges that even the most skilled of non-Force sensitives could not solicit. At first, the doctor believed that he was simply exceptional, a product of hard work and an excellent education. However, that all changed one day when during a social gathering Lamaty accidentally used a Force mind trick to convince the patriarch of a rival clan to denounce his own peers as spineless frauds, resulting in the clan rapidly losing prestige and eventually collapsing. At first, Lamaty, like most other Chiss, saw his Force abilities as a terrible curse and debated turning himself over to his parents in the hope that they would lobby for his exile instead of his execution.

However, Lamaty's rationality won out in the end. Rather than turn himself in to a society that would unconditionally hate him until the day he died, the clinician decided that he would use his so-called curse for the benefit of the Chiss species without them ever knowing. Lamaty conducted his first conscious experiments with the Force on his patients, confident that even if he failed to hide his abilities there would be few who would believe the testimony of mentally ill veterans. Slowly but surely, Lamaty's grasp of the Force improved, to the point where he openly applied his Force abilities on his patients, concluding with a mind trick to ensure that they never knew anything was off.

Over the years, Lamaty became more and more transfixed by the field of psychology, spending at times over half his day treating his patients and serving as a therapist for high-profile clients. It also helped that his clinical duties gave him a solid cover to use the Force, enhancing his mental assessments more and more with each use. Thoroughly convinced that the Force could be used for the good of the Chiss, a twenty-two year old Lamaty decided to confess his abilities to Doveeros in private while reluctantly preparing to use the Force to wipe his brother's memories if he responded with hostility. Surprisingly, Doveeros, with everything to gain from knocking his brother out of the line of succession, completely accepted his brother, recognizing that Lamaty was still a capable heir even without the Force and, more importantly, a good and caring brother who had helped him in more ways than he could count. With his brother at his side, the accomplished clinician was emboldened, renewing his commitment to his job and his title.

However, as the saying goes, all good things come to an end.

With the destruction of Csilla, about a third of the Andilay Clan was wiped out. The survivors regrouped in Imperial space, almost entirely withdrawing from interplanetary politics and focusing solely on rebuilding the remnants of the clan. For the next two years, Lamaty focused solely on assisting his parents in maintaining order within the Andilay Clan, which in its weakened position was being assailed by rival families on an almost constant basis. His work as a therapist and psychologist became increasingly sidelined, never entirely fading from view but instead being relegated to the role as a hobby.

Another great upheaval came with the Chiss Rebellion. The Andilay Clan joined the rest of the Inrokini family in rising up against their Imperial overlords, with Doveeros even joining the Chiss rebel army as a lieutenant and Lamaty once more committing himself fully to being a therapist and clinician for Chiss soldiers. Despite initial advances, the rebellion was crushed on Nirauan. In the decisive Battle of Nirauan, Doveeros was killed in action and Lamaty was captured following the Chiss surrender, where he joined tens of thousands of his comrades in the Chiss war tribunals. All hope seemed lost, and Lamaty resigned himself to his impending execution.

That was, until the famed clinician was approached by the ISB with an astounding proposition.

Become the personal therapist of FN-999, commander of the forces that had killed his brother and brought the Chiss to ruin, and total amnesty would be provided.

Lamaty accepted in order to seek vengeance, desiring to make his last act the murder of the man who had taken so much from him. However, FN-999 was no fool, and as the Chiss attempted to use a mind trick to make the Imperial kill himself at the end of their first meeting, bodyguards rushed in and quickly knocked the distracted Chiss unconscious. After a few more unsuccessful attempts to assassinate the wary commander, Lamaty resigned himself to his new position, understanding all too well that he had nowhere to return to.

Lamaty's hate towards his client remained strong for the next few years, and he put in barely the minimum effort expected of him. However, as the Chiss therapist grew to understand his patient and realize the weight of the traumas he had acquired for over thirty years, his resentment towards the Imperial slowly began to subside. Lamaty began to see that FN-999 was not a sadistic murderer, but rather a thoughtful and inquisitive commander and above all else a leader who sought to protect the state he served just as Lamaty had once committed himself to leading the Andilay Clan.

With the remaants of the once-proud Andilay Clan completely purged, Lamaty finally came to accept that the only place left for him was at FN-999's side.
