Image Source: Target Detector :: Battlefield 4 :: [DICE]
Intent: This was a cool but underplayed attachment concept that makes a ton more sense in Star Wars.
Development Thread: None
Manufacturer: Serpentan Blackyards
Model: STS-1A Target Scanner
Affiliation: Open Market (requires marketplace approval)
Modularity: It is a mod.
Production: Minor
Material: Plasteel, Glassteel, Circuitry, etc
Strengths:
- Alerts the user to the presence of a target at the direction of their aimpoint.
- Allows the user to detect most masked or cloaked targets at their aimpoint.
- Basically highly effective at detecting when targets move through cover or just beyond visual range.
- Is only effective towards the point of aim and at limited ranges (roughly that of a blaster rifle for reference).
- Does not technically reveal cloaked targets, simply announces their presence and position.
- A simple device which only helps take the guesswork out of target acquisition, but does not affect such in any way.
Description: Summarily, the STS is a rail- or bracket-mounted weapon attachment which acts as a miniature lifeform scanner and sonar mapper. Unlike its contemporary counterparts, it is only capable of detecting lifeforms, not imaging them, unless they are naturally visible. However, it will holoproject a small, round image of the perceived target and its immediate surrounding area as well as an enhanced outline of it towards the user's field of view. A diode light on the device turns red when a target is detected in its cone of view and yellow for a possible hit, though it can also be toggled to beep once or twice as well should the user be less concerned about stealth.
