Shaka-Tau had always felt, that from the moment he had been born, his life only revolved around a handful of things; Battle, Freedom, and Loyalty. With the last, he was unsure as to whose was more important. His own loyalty to his people, the loyalty of his family, or loyalty to himself? To be genuine and honest, but also to be strong and benevolent as he had been raised to one day lead his clan. But still, there were dangers and obstacles growing up that to him, were more pertinent than leadership, or any bloodline. And that was the existence of his peoples slavery at the hands of the Echani.
Where less fortunate members of lesser clans seemingly disappeared in the middle of the night, never to be seen or heard from again, Shaka knew where they went. Everybody on Thyrsus knew what had happened to their friends and family, to their kin. All his life, the clans demanded justice from those who did it, the Echani that hid in their obnoxious towers and garrisons. Rarely exiting from their structures of safety save to dole out punishment for those who strayed too close - became too violent for their liking. But of those families that demanded justice, the Musa Clan was not one of them. The bloodlust that had tempered their blades and the strength that had held their shields had all been spent by the time Shaka had come of age. They had sought peace, an end to open and clandestine hostilities. His parents, are the forefront of the words, leading cousins and second cousins decreed it was for the betterment of them all.
Shaka-Tau did not agree.
By the age of Fifteen, Shaka-Tau was coming into contact with Echani forces any time he spotted them away from the security of their buildings. He was bigger than most of the kids he trained and fought with, almost as built as some of the adults and he'd often taunt and engage with the white skins, testing his learned hand-to-hand combat techniques of the day to beat, or be beaten.
His actions often brought him at odds with his clan that sought peaceful servitude, but they could not turn him over to their Echani Overlords. Love for him was too great, even despite his misguided actions, they thought. Shaka-Tau took advantage of that. The Musa Clan was favoured by the Echani, and when they'd have their clandestine meetings, Shaka would hide himself in the shadows, willing himself to slow his breathing as he focused, unbeknownst to him that he was using the Force to put himself into a meditative and barely noticeable state. It was through these actions that he had learned the true extent and disdain his family held for themselves and their brothers and sisters. They revealed the location of a hidden militia in the Desert, one that he himself was very familiar with and often learned from. It was then that he learned his parents had used his patriotic nature against him, having assigned him a tail and delivered the location of the hidden camp.
As soon as the meeting ended, he had cast himself into the desert to warn his comrades and mentors, but it was too late. By the time he arrived, the Echani vessels were already leaving behind a smoking and desolate settlement. Upon descending into the devastation, there were questioning looks and glares, until it was quickly determined that he - one of few with the knowledge of their location and familiarity with their ways had betrayed them. Unable to place the true blame on his direct relatives, he fled, knowing that in the coming days there'd be a want for his blood. And in the following days, those who he had considered friends came for him. On the first day it had been one, by the second, it had been two in a day, and by the end of the third, after slaying six of his brothers in their determined Honour-Killings, he went into self-imposed exile into the desert.
-- [Two Year Period in the Desert]
In the handful of years that he had disappeared into the desert, events had come and past. On his return to Nicaea, Shaka had come to find that the Supreme Sun Guardian, Khonsu Amon had led the return of the exiled Sun Guards back home to Thyrsus and destroyed the Echani Compacts garrison of the planet. He was glad, proud, but those sentiments had only lasted for a few hours when he had found out in his absence the members of his Clan were murdered. Honour-Killings or otherwise. A part of Shaka was ashamed, a traitor to his family? To his people? Had there been some kind of way for him to have proven his loyalty to the freedom fighters instead of running? He didn't know, and entering a freed city asking after traitors was a sure way to find himself hunted.
It was days in and out of hiding before an outsider saved him. Taking him aboard their ship and fleeing the system. From there? The older and weathered Thyrsian fought for his money. Illegal fighting pits. He didn't want to be found by Thyrsians who fought in the more profound gladiator pits. In turn, also finding work protecting scum and sleazy businessmen while they traveled to and from meetings, but the Thyrsian Exile knew there was more out in the world.
Shaka-Tau Musa was determined to be welcomed back home.
