STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES (Required: 2 Weaknesses Minimum) :
Shane has been through a lot and sometimes doesn't care about what he is getting himself into, causing a nasty tendency for heroics and dealing out his personal justice. Quick to anger. Recently Shane has had uncharacteristic bouts of compassion. Though they have not gotten him into a lot of trouble yet there is always the possibility though.

SHIP:
The Reclamation

BIOGRAPHY:
Shane is the love child of a Nubian senator (mother) and a Mandalorian officer (father). Being a bastard son, he was given off to a different family as to not stain his mother's political career or dishonor his father (who was already married). His new family was his "Uncle" King Wuland, a traveling woman whose name constantly eludes him, and Wuland's pet Dewback. Shane worked on his Uncle's farm for many years and helped him pilot the Vindicator III which they used to bring their crop into town (and Wuland also used the ship for spice running operations which was the backbone of their financial stability). He received an education from the woman who stayed with them. She claimed, "The mind is a powerful weapon that can be honed and refined in many ways for the purpose of defense and assault. It is a horrible thing to waste." After a while Shane got bored of farm life and begged his Uncle to let him go join the Grand Army of the Republic, but his Uncle refused not willing to let Shane go off on his own in fear of the boy not being ready. Two days later Wuland and the women were killed in a Tusken raid, leaving an eleven year old boy to fend for himself.

Shane quickly left with his inheritance and took off for Nar Shaadda, it was advertised to him as a planet that had many opportunities if you had the right skills. Nobody had told the young Shane what exactly those skills were but he soon found out. Shane was constantly pushed around and exploited for being a naive child on the filthy Smuggler’s Moon. Actually, upon arriving on the planet Shane was conned out of most of his money and his ship before he even had a chance to get off the landing pad.

A Devaronian con artist was spending his day on the pad when Shane showed up in the Vindicator III. The being was immediately taken aback when he saw that the pilot of the ship was the eleven year old Shane. Taking up the opportunity to maybe get a new ship, the Devaronian walked right up to Shane and at first demanded the docking fee under the guise of a dock employee. At first he acted angry and pushy then feigned compassion upon “realizing” that the boy was human and not some smaller humanoid race, “It was the city’s lights that threw me. My apologies,” is what he said. After pretending to lower the prices of the dock his “worker’s morality” kicked in and told Shane that he had to pay the full price. Shane had 10,000 credits. The Devaronian decided to throw in some extra expenses upon hearing that Shane was probably going to be here a while. It would cost 8,000 credits to dock, 600 credits to have it brought to a nearby hangar for future storage, and another 1,000 credits for future maintenance and upkeep of the ship. Shane thought he had hit a lucky deal and forked over the money, thinking that he could get a job and for extra cash. He soon found out later what a terrible mistake he had made when he visited the “docks” to only find a run down hospital building.

Immediately after finding himself in this precarious predicament Shane looked for housing and found a crummy little 8 credit a week apartment complex to stay in. It wasn’t glamorous but it wasn’t terrible either. Once finding himself a shelter and getting what was his second worst night’s sleep in all of his life, he set out for a job. The first day only produced a fruitless walk around the immediate area and sore feet. The second day however got Shane a job as a custodian at a local restaurant, where he would work for the next three years.

As the years went on Shane grew into a stronger and smarter individual with the help of the owner of the restaurant who would help Shane to become most of the man he was today. The man’s name was Bishop Skirata, an ex-Mandalorian Colonel who had left Mandalore’s army a few years prior in trade for a calm life with his spouse. The Skirata’s and Shane immediately hit it off and after a year of working for them Shane was given a room above the restaurant, rent free of course. After a scuffle with a few neighborhood gangs Bishop taught Shane some basic fighting styles that he had learned throughout his life and a few tricks of the streets.

A year later Shane was still working at the restaurant and doing a few side jobs to raise some extra cash. He had not yet started his mercenary career but was doing things that would once again help in his future endeavors. Partaking in sport shooting, racing, gambling, and fighting events honed his skills a thickened his wallet. Of course Shane lied about his age in order to participate in the festivities and these weren’t exactly sanctioned events either. One night after heading home after a particularly profitable game of cards, Shane noticed that the front door of the restaurant was open. Shane entered the shop carefully and immediately got a blaster pistol from behind the counter. Carefully making his way across the restaurant Shane heard some loud clanging noises coming from the back. Once he had reached the back he discovered a thief was searching for where the Skirata’s kept there money. The door Shane had opened accidentally hit the counter next to it causing the robber to look up and see the shadow of a man with a blaster. He made his way out the back door with Shane in pursuit. The thief took a look back to see what appeared to him to be just some punk teenager who probably didn’t even know how to fire the weapon. He turned with a knife, but Shane had noticed it on the draw and had already sent a blaster bolt at the thief. The thief’s falling body gave a sickening thud as it hit the ground. The ridiculously positioned body was left where it was to be picked up by the proper authorities after Shane had called for them. One of the police officers made a mention that this particular felon had a bounty on his head that Shane was almost too happy to collect on.

Bishop was proud that the boy had done a good job in defending the shop. If the thief had found the safe then they would have lost almost all of the money that they had. It was then that Bishop Skirata adopted Shane into his family and into his clan. After Shane became Shane Skirata, Bishop taught the boy all there was about the Mandalorian heritage and culture. Something his new mother watched with a smile as her husband recited everything he could think of like a small school child, she herself was Echani and decided that she would put a few stakes in Shane’s future. Every other week she taught Shane combat with swords, knives, and staffs. She gave him a higher understanding of blasters and hand-to-hand combat sometimes using Bishop as a punching bag.

For three more years Shane lived with the Skirata's. He made his money as he used to except he did both underground and more ‘official’ circuits. He did the best in the fighting tournaments and they soon became what he focused on almost completely in his later years as a restaurant worker. After one particular fight Shane was offered to join a tournament that was called the “Scoundrel’s Tests”. This competition put the contestants in fights, races, shooting competitions, drinking competitions, and card games. Four out of the five of course Shane had been doing for sometime and decided that the drinking portion wouldn’t be that decisive and probably just a gimmick as it took place on the last days of the tournament. Shane took up the offer to join the little contest on the promise of a huge cash reward and a job opportunity with the Exchange or one of the other gang organizations hosting the event. Shane placed first in the fighting and shooting matches, placed second in the card games (which was made up of numerous card games including Pazaak). He did modestly in his races and didn’t even bother to drink. Being the only participant to consistently win two events Shane was named the winner and received a 50,000 credit payment as well as a meeting with an Exchange boss.

The boss was a Dorin named Rut Huygen who offered Shane a job as a contracted “worker”. Shane took the job and after a long goodbye with his family he was moved into a hotel suite where he lived for the next few years. At the beginning Shane only got petty contracts from the Exchange. From the ages of eighteen to nineteen he performed these small hits and guarding duties until he caught a break.

When he was twenty he got his first big contract as a spice smuggler’s escort for a group of pirates who were currently doing deals with the Exchange. A Hutt (Huygen’s subordinate) had contracted him to guard one Trios Olton through Bespin and back to Nar Shaadda. They were captured by Bespin guards almost right away after Trios let loose that he was smuggling spice. After a few days in a cell Shane finally got a plan together and made his escape. Upon escaping he stole some equipment, hijacked a cloud car, and saved the smuggler (not originally part of the plan, but he was right there). They returned to Nar Shaadda and Shane's contractor was furious and almost certainly would have killed him if the smuggler hadn't reasoned with the Hutt. Shane was later given the nickname of Solo for his little adventure on Bespin and the contracts came flowing in.

Solo moved through the tougher and better paying contracts rather quickly. By a chance of fate the Devaronian who conned Shane so early on had conned the wrong person and now had was now open for hunting. Shane jumped on the contract and dished out his own justice to ease the grudge he had been holding for the past decade. After making the Devaronian beg for his life while hanging off the side of a building Shane “offered” to help him up. But after finding out that the Vindicator was currently in the building’s hangar, Shane “forgot” to help. Now with his old ship back and the ability to operate without Exchange transport, he quite working for the Exchange as a bounty hunter and moved on to be a freelance mercenary.

Shane moved through several easy contracts as a mercenary and soon found himself to be in almost high demand. He time and time again supported his reputation as a fighter and has chased down some of the biggest scum in the universe either killing or maiming them. In a twist of fate one of Solo's early targets was the Hutt who had threatened to kill him. Shane took his time with that kill, ultimately sending him into a rancor pit.

At the age of twenty-three Shane “Solo” Oderyn had become a Nar Shaddaa veteran and was accepting some of the biggest contracts he had ever seen and always completing them with the total satisfaction of his customer. One notable contract had Shane heading back to Bespin to help fight for a rebellion against a corrupt Republic official. This contract was coming from the Republic itself, to eliminate Yans-Ilikh Groutt, the man in charge of one of the Republic’s cities on Bespin. Groutt was making the citizens pay taxes to him and was cutting profits from the republic. He was aided by a majority of the troops stationed in the city. The minority of the troops had aligned themselves with a citizen led militia and was fighting against Groutt’s regime. Someone had let it slip that the Republic was sending in mercenaries to handle the situation. Groutt made an immediate order that all crews docking in the city were to be put under arrest upon arrival.

Most of the mercenaries were captured including Shane, but a few had escaped the clutches of the soldiers. Those lucky enough to evade soldiers quickly organized with the militia and made a plan to break out their fellow mercs. It was during the escape the Shane met Yanet Tryuyo. Miss Tryuyo was one of the militia’s leaders and had masterminded the escape plan. After the successful escape Shane found himself infatuated by the girl. Most of the mercs cancelled there contracts after being set free but Shane stayed on in order to help the militia. The next battle would be the last battle fought on the station between the Republic forces and Groutt’s. The fighting in the city lasted four days with the Republic prevailing over Groutt, who had been killed at the hand of a group of mercenaries with a personal vendetta.

The mercenaries who assisted the stabilization of the area were given job opportunities with the Republic. Most moved on to other jobs but Shane been asked personally to be Tryuyo’s guard. Though his job was quite uneventful, he found it a great treasure to be with Yanet. But before his happiness could last to long or before Shane and Yanet could begin a deep relationship, some old “friends” of Shane’s had come to meet him. They were Exchange thugs told to sign him back on with them by any means necessary and after the Republic soldiers had repelled them Shane was ordered to leave by the city’s officials.

A year later Shane was hired on a contract to hunt down a "poacher". This particular target worked on Coruscant and was a Trandoshan who viewed all living creatures as game to be preyed upon and skinned. It took him a month to track the Trando down which led to a sniper vs. sniper style firefight, a high speed speeder chase, and a fist fight on top of a Coruscanti train. After collecting the reward of that contract Shane went through two years worth of contracts until he was approached by a business man to retrieve a Jedi.

It was supposed to be an easy assignment. Shane hired a young mercenary named Wes to help him and they took off to Dantooine to find the target. When they arrived they asked around if the citizens had seen a Jedi and to help convince them of their cover story saying that they were looking for a friend Shane was doing his best Jedi impression and even flashed around his lightsaber and Wes, as he told them, was his padawan. They soon "borrowed" someone's speeder and used it to track down the Jedi and after hours of baking in the tin can they got a lock on her and Shane quickly pursued and pinned her down in a cave. He warily went into the cave and kept his senses on a razor's edge, while he was trying to find where the Jedi had been hiding. The Jedi got the best of him however and incapacitated him. When he awoke Shane found that his personal datapad was gone. That datapad held almost all the information on his contracts and targets, most of which were confidential and were that way for a reason. Shane quickly tried to move into some remote sector of the galaxy where he could hide from the inevitable bounty hunters who would be after him. His name and reputation ruined and now under the alias of Jaq Bishop, he took to living on a small hut on Dxun using his wit and physical prowess to survive the "lively" wildlife.

After years of not standing up for anything or offering concrete loyalty to anyone, Shane finally reached a point where he cared about the future of the galaxy. He had always stayed somewhat connected to his Mandalorian roots and felt it was only appropriate to join the clans.
