- Patrol Frigate: The Shara’af is designed to be a self-sufficient patrol vessel that can take on dedicated long-range missions without the need for support. Its armament and defensives are able to adequately perform in combat without putting too large of a strain on the frigate’s systems, while it has significant advantages in other standard craft in terms of its speed and maneuverability, in order for it to excel at the pursuit of rogue craft.
- Complement: The Shara’af sports a hangar complement that is lower than average for ships of its size. This means that in situations that require large numbers of small craft, the Shara’af is not able to rise to the occasion. This also forces the frigate to ‘ration’ it’s hangar space depending on the requirements for the mission or to keep its complement flexible in anticipation of multiple types of situations.
Ra’Katha does not fashion itself a military power, nor does it wish to. Even in the height of its prominence, Ra’Katha had consolidated its power in commerce and trade, not warfare and violence. Yet, to facilitate the former, the latter had needed to be developed. Thus, the doctrine behind the creation of the Rommer Empire’s navy had been dedicated to fast, self-sufficient ships that were able to survive for months on operations in any corner of the galaxy.
The Rommer Empire’s navy had been stripped apart and its schematics lost to time when the planet had voluntarily sundered itself from the galaxy to protect itself from the Gulag Plague. But now, as Ra’Katha was once again on the cusp of a new trading empire, the need for a fleet to protect it once again has risen. The Shara’af is intended to be the ship that rises to the occasion -- the backbone of Ra’Katha’s fleet, one that can operate and patrol its sphere of trade without the need to depend on a larger fleet or on constant refueling. Its defense and armament are adequate enough to work in engagement, and its high speed and maneuverability make it the perfect enforcement vessel. It is the ship that will usher in a new age of trade and prosperity for the golden planet.
