Designed as a counter weapon for soldiers and those looking to protect themselves from saber wielders. The Baton is based on lightfoils and light baton that while smaller could be used by more then just jedi or sith. The color customization for the blade color for different military units.
As a weapon it is simple and plain not really as impressive allowing it to be produced for belts in larger numbers. THe hilts one time use with near solid hilts and an activating stud. Once the four hour power cell is expended the hilt is useful as a club to smack someone in the head.
The use of lightsaber batons in the past by jedi allowed for several to be used at once if needed but these are not made like that. Instead focusing on replacing the blade you have been using with another from the belt and once they are all gone you are out. More can be bought to replace your supply.
As a saber blade itself there is nothing special about it, it can block and slice through metals but will burn out faster when trying to cut through metals. The blade itself is flatter instead of the normal round and looks like a small blade that can be used in the off hand. There are no slots or space for secondary crystals.
