Shielding The Future (Dev. for Delphus.4)

ADM. Reshmar

Directorate Officer Fleet Admiral SJC 3rd Fleet
Reshmar waited for the aft ramp of his personnel transport to fully deploy. The soft clank of the metal of the carft hitting the metal of the landing platform was the que Reshmar had been waiting on. He waited for his two aids to fall in behind him then walked down the ramp to the awaiting group of Mon Calamari. Rehmar had dealt with each of them before but never all at one time. As far as he knew this was the first time the group had even been assembled in one place for one propose. Reshmar could not be certain of this but he had never heard any of the individuals speak of a meeting of the group.

The seven Mon Calamari individuals made up the majority of the Finance and industrial leaders of Dac. Each represented one of the largest companies on the Mon Calamari Homeworld. Each had their own visions of how commerce should be handled for Dac and each wealthy enough to see their idea see fruition. Reshmars hopes were that the group would listen to his ideas and see the bigger picture so to say.

Reshmar reached the group standing at the edge of the platform then spoke.

"Thank you all for coming today. I know you all have very important business to get too so I will be brief. I have brought you all here today for one reason. You all need me." Reshmar said with a straight face. He knew the comment would ruffle some of the individuals but it was the truth. Reshmar paused a moment for the group to settle then spoke again.

"You need me to keep your commerce moving, Your ships repaired, and most importantly To defend your business concerns."

Reshmar stopped again to gauge the group before making his next statement.

"Now, I have brought you all here to ask you each one simple question. Why do I need you?"

The Mon Calamari looked from one to another then back to Reshmar. Some were noticeably offended by Reshmars question, as He knew they would be. That had been his intent. These were the wealthiest and most influential shipping conglomerates on Dac. They had until now dealt with a far more amendable Mon Calamari Shipyard. IN the turmoil of the past centuries their corporations had maneuvered themselves into very lucrative contracts with the shipyards. Contracts which did little to assist the shipyard in any way, and often put their contracted products in the red presenting losses to the shipyards. That was no longer the case. HE knew it and so did the lawyers and representatives of Mon Calamari Shipyards. Now it was time to let the group before him know. A short Mon Calamari male in the front spoke up.

"Excuse me but who do you think you are to order us here and talk to use like this. I have you know You are not the only ship yard in the system. I can..." Reshmar help up a webbed hand to stop the man.

"Yes Mister Jentis There are other yards in system for you to take your business to. And please feel free to do so. My goal here is not to force you to do anything. I am here to make each of you aware that from today on your business with the Mon Calamari Shipyards is over. We will not be completing any orders for your corporations. My legal team has already contacted each of your own, and issued the cessation of contract papers. It was just easier for me to get you all here to personally inform you rather than attempt to meet with each of you singularly. " Reshmar paused as he seen another of the group insist on being heard.

"You can not do this The yards are under contract with the greater Dac trade union for support. that contract is still binding." said a man standing behind the first businessman who spoke. Reshmar rolled his eyes and cracked the edge of his lips and answered the man.

"That was true until this afternoon. Gentilmen, The bottom line is our business is done. The Mon Calamari Shipyards is no longer a subsidiary under the Dac Commerce Accord. It is now liscensed to a new free trade agreement my legal team has signed with the Monarchy, and King Tetka has instructed The Mon Calamari Defense Fleet contracts null. You and every other corporation on Dac will now have to negotiate new contracts with the shipyard of your choosing. If you would like to continue to do business with the Mon Calamari Shipyards Please join me aboard my ship, and out of this noise." Reshmar nodded his head to the ocean crashing against the side of the floating landing pad. He then turned and walked back up the ramp and into his ship. A moment later the group followed him into his ship. Reshmar knew they would, they had no option.

Aboard Reshmars personnel Waverrunner-class transport the group sat around a table conversing with one another until Reshmar and a human male walked in. The man was in a suit but his hair and more importantly his unshaven face made him seem out of place. The man had a smile on his face that also seemed out of place. He walked around the table and sat to the empty chair to the left of the chair Reshmar had just sat in. Reshmar looked to each of the Mon Calamari around the table then spoke.

"We are all here today for one reason. To keep the future of Dac safe. Your shipping concerns are as important to the welfare of Dac as the Defense Fleet. More so in many ways. I am not here to deny your commerce fleets support. I am here to see that the Mon Calamari Shipyards are paid what they are owed and deserve. At your past rates the yards were losing money and that will not due. Each of you will be free to submit new requests for services based on a new scale." Reshmar sent a file to each members data pads laying out the new scale for services by the shipyard. He waited a moment for the individuals to look it over then continued without acknowledging the noticeable questioning expressions.

"This is Mister Mosses, He will be the head of our commercial services operations, the branch of the Mon Calamari Shipyards your organizations will be dealing with day to day. He and his people will be glad to help you in any way and answer any questions you may have." Reshmar motioned for the human to stand then sat and waited for Raymond to speak.

Ray had no Idea why the fish had put him in charge of this. He was less than responsible and well did not think he would do a very good job at it. Ray looked out at the seafood platter before him and all he could think of was, whens lunch. He had do what the admiral asked and was taking the pole as serious as possible but still this was him. He was just as likely to steal as much from the endeavor as the Mon Calamari business men were. HE knew in his mind he would not but still the thought was a constant reminder that he was not qualified for the job he now held. Reshmar introduced him and sat. Ray guessed it was his turn now.

"Ladies, Gentlemen, Yes I will be heading the branch of the yard which you will now be dealing with, but I will not generally be who you are dealing with. I have a competent group of support personnel which will be handling the service part of this all as I am sure you all will also have. Our goal is to match each of your organizations with a service professional who will aid your own organizations team in smoothly handling any and all commerce between us. That being said I am sure some of you have questions." Ray said as he paused to take questions from the group.

Reshmar listened as some of the Mon Calamari asked about this and that. More business issues than anything else. he few who had protested at first now seemed settled down and interested in knowing more. Mosses had answered the questions as best he could. Reshmar knew he was not the best for business concerns but he was one of the few people in his group of acquaintances that was loyal and whom Reshmar trusted. And Reshmar knew as long as he paid the man he would stay that way. Reshmar waited to the questioning had drawn to a close more or less then spoke again.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I must confess I have a secondary reason to call you here. Yes new contracts need to be drawn up and yes we must manage this new partnership delicately, but I also have an offer for you which I believe You all will be interested in. Military grade commercial shielding for your transports and freighters." Reshmar said knowing it would get the attention of everyone in the room.

Reshmar waited for the group to converse between themselves for a moment then spoke. "Mon Calamari Shielding has been legendary since our ancestors first modified our liners for combat. Our systems redundancy and power distribution systems are the most advanced in the galaxy. In the past we have limited these systems and shielding to military only vessels. More because of the cost than any other reason. These systems in the past were very expensive, still are. This and the past centuries of instability have continued to keep these advanced shield systems slotted as military only. Our standard triple redundancy shielding is still far to expensive and difficult to maintain for it to be used outside our military vessels." Reshmar paused a mement and brought up a holo image on the tables projection platform.

"This is the Delphus-4, It is the a revolutionary design based on our triple redundancy system but with far better components which can be mass produced, and less power draw per projector. The advancement in technology over the last ten years has been unprecedented, and my engineers have been working diligently to make this project happen." Reshmar stopped to let the group look at the hologram. He entered a set of commands and technical data popped up in the hologram.

"This is our new Military grade Shielding system. The Delpus-4 is a quad redundancy multi-phase shield projector. The main projector is hosed in the center globe and acts as the main projector for the system. eight secondary shield projectors work in sets of two to give the main shield projector five total layers of shield projection. If one of the projectors in the tandom sets is damages the other will engage to continue the redundancy." Reshmar said as he brought up another image.

An image of a mon cal cruiser popped up on the holo display with a group of highlighted icons. Reshmar magnified the image on one of the icon which read Delphus overlay one. The icon then changed to that of the Delphus-4. Reshmar zoomed back out to show the projector and the 2 adjacent one.

"These projectors are designed with an overlapping coverage area in mind. Each Delphus-4 covers its own shield zone with its standard quad redundancy. The approximate zone bubble is about three hundred meters. This can of course be expanded at the price of power consumption but the system is not designed with that use in mind. Each projector is place so that the projector adjacent to it can use one of its four redundant projectors to cover the adjacent zone. This means if one of the projectors loses any or all of its redundant fields the projectors next to it can use one of their redundancies to cover that zone. The resulting overlap means that if needed a ship can task its projectors to cover the adjacent zone boosting the coverage in that zone to a total of six redundant layers. This of course would lower the participating projectors to three layers of redundancy for its own zone." Said Reshmar bringing up holograms which indicated what he was describing and gave the Mon Calamari at the table a visual example.

"As you can imagine this system is expensive. The larger the vessel the more projectors needed to cover it. And the price of the quad redundancy projectors themselves is very high. This has however lead our engineers to working on a less powerful version. It is still in testing but we feel that a double redundancy version may possibly be cost efficient enough for your organizations to purchase and maintain. These new systems need far less service than the larger quad version or even our standard triple version. " Said Reshmar bringing up one last hologram.

The group looked over the data now scrolling on their personnel data screens. A list of test results and a brief history of the design and development that went into the new shielding scrolled. The that was followed by a set of numbers outlining the systems performance and power. The Quad version was very impressive. Many of the members of the group could not hide that they were impressed. A couple looked uninterested, and one even sat upright ignoring the data all together. Reshmar gave the group a moment to look it over a bit more then proceeded.

"Our military version will be a very limited production and reserved solely for our new advanced ships to be produced. The cost of these systems makes them far too expensive for commercial use. Our triple redundancy is still our main stay for military contracts but it will be used on our legacy lines and for Non-front line military vessels. This leave the double redundancy version which is still very expensive but not so much that your organizations can not afford it." Reshmar said pausing for a moment to take a drink of water.

"As Mon Cala commerce guile members you of course will get a discounted price compared to our non Mon Cala Prices." Reshmar said watching as this statement peaked a couple of the members interests. "These are the most advanced shielding systems out there ladies and gentlemen. Your ships would have unsurpassed defensive capabilities. More than enough to protect your shipments from the local pirate organizations roaming the sector." Reshmar said noticing that statement caught the interest of everyone in the room.

Raymond had sat quietly as Reshmar had talked to the corporate owners. He knew the price tag for the shielding was high. And he suspected that a few of the Mon Calamari in the group may argue the price. That was not going to happen on his watch. He was there for one reason, to make the company money. It had suffered under the last few kings rule and business practices had seen their way into favoring the commerce guild over the shipyards. The yards were barely surviving. That all had changed now, With the new governmental contract in place and the royalty of Mon Cala now firmly set on the side of the defense fleet and the shipyards, the corporations of Mon Cala would now pay fair pricing for their services.

Reshmar motioned to him to transmit the data to the members data pads and continued to speak. Ray sent the pricing and limitations information to the members individual pads and went back to listening to Reshmar knowing a few in the room were now fuming.

Reshmar waited for the group to look over the list Ray had given them. He knew some of them would have issues but they would fall in line. They really had no option. The next hour was spent taking questions and explaining some technical issues with the shielding. After the meeting had concluded and all of the Mon Calamari Business owners had left the Mon Calamari Shipyards had locked in contracts with them all. Some needed some convincing but in the end the corporations of the guild knew they would be better off with MCS than with one of the independent yards on Mon Cala.

Reshmar closed the ramp to the ship and sat down in his personnel cabin. It had been a long day. It really did not have time for this meeting but it had to be done. Raymond Mosses' voice came over the com asking what there destination was. with a sigh Reshmar answered. "Yard Slip Ten"
