The Force flowed from Corin in searching, probing tendrils. Each of them scattering to the wind, slinking and slithering as idle passengers on the life dwelling in the forest. Instantly becoming aware of the approaching Quarra, eager to unknowingly spring the trap set for them.
His eyes flashed open with a breath, however. An unexpected presence fell into that distorting web of feeling, finding the darkness of those fleeing criminals absent. Another, third thing. A second more and the fear tugged on those strings, as if echoing back to him. A feeling so raw he could all but see it.
In the distance, far from Corin, two young Devaronians fled from Quarra. With frantic breaths, both of them hurriedly ran through the whipping brush, their feet finding unsure footing over fallen leaves. Behind them, the pack of Quarra came snarling after them with heavy, clawed footfalls. It seemed only a matter of when, rather than if the Quarra caught them.
Drooling jaws, primed to snap shut around the slower one's head, made the sound of clattering teeth as the Devaronian ducked in time, though the second snapping jaw was all but certainly going to strike. And it would have, had the Devaronian not felt a strong, sudden tug on his collar, wrenching him free.
Corin dragged the child around him, who clambered for his feet and made efforts to grasp at the arm holding him. The other Devaronian stopped running, turning back to see what had happened.
Between their laboured breaths, only a series of "huh", "guh", and "wha" were made out.
With a Quarra an inch from his face, Corin narrowly avoided the sharp-toothed maw with a sudden jerk. The lightsaber in his off-hand shot to life, a crackling purple bringing a harsh glow down upon the Quarra. It's front-facing horn severed, howling, whimpering as it retreated for all of a moment.
"Help!" The cry came from behind him, pivoting to see two Quarra approaching the other boy.
His use of Fold Space allowed him to cross the distance immediately, the first Devaronian falling to the ground as Corin's grasp suddenly vanished.
His lightsaber plunged itself forwards into the first of those two, a burning hiss accompanying it's brief, dying wailing. Though the second came charging with its horn and Corin was forced to be impaled or part with his weapon, of which he chose the latter, though not before stumbling to a knee as the charging Quarra faintly passed him.
A scream came from ahead now, with the wounded and its friend setting eyes on the first boy. Corin reached out with the Force, yanking the boy back towards him, catching him again by the collar of his hunting jacket.
The charger charged again, answered with a swift, harsh waving hand from Corin, forcing the creature to nosedive into the ground, rolling, then tumbling down the increasing slope. Corin's hand waved in a sideways arc, giving one last final push to that sent it flailing off an impossible ledge.
The two boys had run, sheltering themselves behind an outcrop of large rocks.
Corin retrieved his lightsaber with the Force, then made use of Fold Space again. Places traded with one of the remaining two Quarra, with it left dazed from the sudden warp, and other susceptible to the slashing saber that silenced it.
He threw his lightsaber at the last one, which cleaved effortlessly through it.
Both of the Devaronian boys only looked at one another in astonishment, huddling behind the stones as Corin took a last once-over on the now corpses. Hardly a hunting trip, for either party.
"Could you teleport?" One of them asked, peaking over the edge.
"Or are you really fast?" Said the other, more shyly.
Seconds later, Corin answered, "That's for me to know."
Both of them grumbled at the answer, though mustered the courage to give their appreciation. "Thanks for the help, though!" The oldest of them said hurriedly.
"You shouldn't be out here." Said Corin, stepping closer. "Go home."
"Don't worry, we will!"
"But, what if we run into more of them?"
Corin sighed, "How far is home?"
"Not far, promise."
"Alright," Corin tucked the lightsaber onto his belt, "I'll take you."
