It was the silence.

That was the indication of danger. When everything around went quiet, leaving the dense jungle feeling like an oppressive weight on oneself, barely a sound beyond the groaning trunks or twisting vines. The wildlife of Dxun had adapted to the ever present dangers of the predators of the moon, aware when hunters were passing through, senses keen and searching for the next meal. Many of the terrible beasts renown for being on Dxun were sinister things, some twisted by the dark side, while others were simply a result of nature; yet, of all the creatures that hunted in the vast jungles, one was truly fearsome - the Zakkeg.

The large quadruped lumbered through the dense undergrowth, crashing foliage and logs in its path. The armored creature was big, just over four meters in length, and almost as tall. Its spiked scales were scarred from dozens of battles, some for defense, some for hunting and others from territory disputes with other male Zakkeg. The alpha predator was hunting now, seeking prey it had caught scent of, its primitive - but not unintelligent - brain recognizing the smell from the past; it was hunting humanoid, specifically a small one made of soft flesh... and in that same moment, a flock of birds stirred ahead, telling the predator of movement. With quickened strides, the Zakkeg lumbered onward, jaws awash with saliva at the thought of the meal to come.

Elsewhere, in the cover of numerous vines and branches, a pair of human eyes peered out of deep shadow. They watched, observing, following the armored creature's passage as it approached along the covered jungle floor, following the scent of the individual presently hiding from it. Some might think not covering a scent was a foolish thing to do, and they would be right; that was, if you planned on not being tracked.

Below, the Zakkeg let out a bellow, snuffing as it scented prey nearby. It knew it was close, which the little human was depending on. The large predator scratched at logs, crushing others, trying to determine the flesh's location, its breathing growing louder and louder with more exertion. So far, the Zakkeg had been chasing its prey for several miles, crashing through undergrowth and across difficult terrain, carried along on short-powerful legs; but even now, as the predator sought the morsel that was so close, the scent so strong, those legs were beginning to fail, struggling to stomp and stamp after such a long chase.

Above, a skinny arm slowly reached out, curved bone-knife held between equally thin fingers... and with a quick, silent swipe, a taunt vine was severed with a twang.

Suddenly, a huge tree trunk came crashing, as a series of powerful vines intertwined into a more powerful netting came apart and ceased supporting it. Below, the Zakkeg strained to look up, head locked by the scales on its back and neck, even as it remained oblivious to the danger above. And as the thick trunk reached full force, it slammed into the armored predator below, impacting with a mighty crash that saw both reptile and object crumple in equal measure - the Zakkeg was forced to the ground, legs giving out, but armor holding strong, while the trunk cracked and splintered around the impact area, but remained whole beyond that, maintaining its giant weight.

"Raaaaghhh!" Came the shout, as a lithe form jumped from concealment, grasping several vines firmly in hand, before descending with speed to the scene below.

A thin teenager landed on the ground with a thump, crouched as a pair of curved bone-knives appeared in either hand. His body was covered in scars, his hair a mass of tangled locks, and his eyes showing a deadly intensity, locked onto the creature that had - up until now - been the hunter, but was now the hunted. Moving forward with a speed and agility borne of years living in the jungles of Dxun, the short savage closed the distance with the struggling Zakkeg rapidly; and as the creature saw movement, it tried to twist, snapping mighty jaws as it remained pinned beneath the trunk on its back, its spiked armor ironically working against it by embedding the object in place. Beady yellow eyes focused on the soft flesh, but without its powerful legs to push, the creature was trapped - and then were was a flash of bone blade, a brief moment of pain, and then nothing...

Stepping back from his kill, Graal removed the bone-knife from the eye socket of the Zakkeg. For all their armor, every creature had a weakness, and given the small size of the head and skull, this particular creature was vulnerable to having a curved blade twisted up into the brain. Wiping the blood from the blade, the little savage wiped at his nose, grinning to himself with satisfaction. It had been a long day, resulting in an equally long game of baiting, to lead the Zakkeg to the ambush of the tree... but now it was done, and the meat the creature would provide was enough to see Graal through for several weeks. Not to mention more armor plating for his home, to ward off the other beasts that often came sniffing around his territory.

"Futsak!" The boy called, hands cupped around his mouth.

And in response, there was a huge looming shadow that broke through the canopy, as a fully grown Drexl landed atop the dead Zakkeg with a crash of branches and snap of vines. The pair regarded one another, before the boy grinned again and ran over the kill, clambering up the flying beast's neck, and sat in position on a crudely made saddle on the base of the skull; and with a whoop and slap to the Drexl's head, the mighty creature tore the tree trunk free, before latching sharp claws into the dead thing beneath; and with several mighty beats of large wings, the pair were soaring above the jungle with the kill claimed, headed back to their lair...

So it was that, with the thrill of a successful hunt and the wind whipping at his face and hair, did Graal notice a shining object in the distance. It moved through the sky, glimmering, at a speed considerably faster than any Drexl, even Futsak. With furrowed brow, the boy growled and wondered what was approaching his home, his territory, where even the beasts of the jungle usually stayed away... this shining bird was headed straight for the abandoned Mandalorian Outpost that Graal had claimed as his own.

"Ra-choo daa!" He called, spurring the mighty winged creature on, as the pair now made for the Outpost with due haste. "Kaa-ja!"

None would claim Graal's home. Not while he had strength to kill them and keep it...

Overhead, the Drexl roared a second time, before releasing a large object from within its powerful grasp. The dead thing fell, spiked armor and mass impacting heavily meters from the intruder, sending dirt and grass in every direction. The ground vibrated, as the armored creature rolled to a stop, tongue hanging from its mouth. The Drexl landed with a blast of wind, and a small form jumped from the head of the winged beast, landing in a crouch beside the Zakkeg body. A sneer on his face, two razor-sharp curved knives held, one in each hand, Graal eyed the intruder with the intensity a hunter had for prey...

"Da-roag mi'cha?" Graal said, his voice low but clearly not fully developed. Dark eyes took in the armor, the ship. "Je'daii? What wear is? Meet-al?"

The man looked different to Green Eyes, a lot older and much uglier, and didn't seem to wear the same clothes. He also smelled different, bitter sweat, the scent seeming to seep from his pores. Then there was the metal, which looked strong and durable, which caused the hunter to wonder if his blades could pierce it. The chance was small, so Graal knew that if the man was threatening, the weak points were at the limb joints and neck - as clearly that was where the armor had gaps.

"Graal home, am mine," He continued, trying to press on with his very broken Basic. The Je'daii had only given a few lessons, despite being a quick study. "You am no here... no well come."

In the distance, from the direction the Drexl had flown, a faint roar was heard. It was a Zakkeg, judging by the rumble and low pitch. Graal glanced over his shoulder, growling, as he considered what that meant... perhaps a pack? Perhaps a mate? Either way, the dead Zakkeg hadn't been alone, and that roar was one of challenge - the boy had certainly heard that particular sound often enough in his years. Standing, Graal pointed to the dead thing, tapping the end of a spike with his knife.

"Spike. More come," Graal said simply, motioning over his shoulder with the same hand and knife. "Am fight."

Turning to the Drexl, Graal walked over and raised a hand. The creature lowered its head, accepting the snout rub, before the boy whispered. With a mighty flap of wings, the beast took off, circling and doubling back above the jungle, searching...

"Futsak look. Eye-watch spike for am."

Cassiopeia had barely managed to get abroad Kaine's ship before he departed for Dxun. She wasn't really sure what provoked him to go by himself, alone, to such a place. But, luckily, she had managed to convince him right before he got on the ship to leave to bring her with him. She even had her duffel bag ready to go when she asked him. In either case, it wasn't the greatest idea for him to go by himself so she was glad to provide the company on the trip.

In either case, she was relatively prepared. Toothbrush, toothpaste, sleeping clothes. Most importantly, she brought her belt shield & a specific outfit for their trek through the jungle. Well, she presumed it was a trek through the jungle. She really had no idea what the plan was.

She really wanted to get some samples of the foliage & ground, though, and maybe some samples from some animals. She was a biologist at heart, so she brought herself several scientific equipment to store samples in. Sure, she was a teacher turned Mandalorian combatant, but she still had her hobbies - and that included things in biology. Of course, she also had a verpine handgun holstered on her hip.

Upon landing on the planet, Cassiopeia exited the ship right after Kaine. She grumbled a little at the heat and humidity - she preferred their home planet. Cool, in a mountain, regulated. She shivered as the drexl flew above them, terrifying creatures. She nearly bumped into Kaine a couple of times. Something about an old Mandalorian base.

Graal watched the pair, noticing the light-haired female as she appeared from within the shiny bird of metal. Their words were quick, mostly unknown, but several were recognized by the young boy that stood not far away. Already it seemed they were ignoring his questions, which annoyed Graal to no end. These were people he hadn't met before, in his territory, and they wouldn't speak to him about their intention or who they were? It made the scarred teen grip his curved knives in anger, as he snarled... the male, he looked to lead the female; he would die first.

But then focus shifted, causing Graal to hold off his plans, at least for the moment. The mention of the approaching Zakkeg made the hunter smirk, even as he considered the danger that approached. The Mandalorians outpost had been trapped, tripwired and prepared for invasion, which meant there were options when dealing with beasts coming into the area to hunt. Still, given Graal knew little-to-nothing about these intruders, perhaps it was best to simply see what they could do - after all, giving away the surprises the boy had in store, for the sake of a Zakkeg, didn't seem very fun...

"Zakkeg!" Graal said, pointing down to the large corpse beside him, of none other than a Zakkeg. "Spike weak. Here. Here. Here."

In turn, the boy stabbed a single blade into the eye socket, then into the neck line beneath the heavy plating, and then between the gap of shoulder and chest plating. For a moment, the boy wondered if the intruders would listen to what he was saying, given he had literally dumped the body of one right in front of them. But, considering the shiny metal they wore, and the weird looking items they held on straps across backs and in pockets on thighs, perhaps they felt a boy's opinions were useless. Nonetheless, Graal growled and moved toward a nearby building; and within moments returned with a long spear, which he held in one hand, the length of the shaft against the back of his arm comfortably.

"Alpha Zakkeg come," Graal said as the loud roar sounded again, this time from close by. The boy gave a grin, not entirely pleasant, as he looked back to the intruders. "Good fight. Kill or die now. If live, am ask th-ings of intruders."

Spinning the spear, Graal gripped it firmly in both hands, and prepared for the arrival of the very angry, very large Zakkeg that was just beginning to breach the outer walls of the outpost. And unlike the dead creature nearby, this one was almost double in size, clearly agitated by the death of its mate, and potentially leading others... it was going to be a good fight.

Cassiopeia had stopped to collect some pieces of the strange, odd looking root from a plant. She had gotten a little behind Kaine during that time but was still relatively close to him. She knew how dangerous this tropical planet was - all sorts of hungry critters ready to eat anyone or anything at any time.

She heard the second roar. Her eyes widened as she looked up to her buir. That... Really, couldn't be good. It was getting closer by the second. She quickly jogged over to him, although she carefully put her sample into her backpack.

Her heart sank at his explanation. She knew of Zakkeg's - they were famed for their armor in biology circles. Although, she had never had to fight one. Or be around one. Or even had to think about being around one. It was... Intimidating to say the least. She nodded though. Aim for the eyes. "Okay. Eye sockets and in the neck... I'll run once it gets too close. Be safe, buir."

She perked a brow. Lad? She glanced around and finally saw Graal. She hadn't even noticed him at first. How'd she miss him? With a perked brow, she scanned him. He couldn't have been that much older than her brother. What was he doing out here, particularly by himself? The Drexl was his? So many questions and a very concerned look went over Cassiopeia's face. Why was a kid doing in the tropics of this planet? "Why is there someone so young out here..?" She whispered towards Kaine.

His basic wasn't the greatest, either, but she didn't expect him to know any. She nodded and mouthed a thank you towards him as he provided an example of where the weak spots were. Did he kill the first one by himself...?

It was only a few moments later that he emerged with a spear and her eyes opened wide. Wow... She shook her head and nodded. "We will kill it. Then, you can ask questions," she confirmed to the boy. She was fine being asked questions.

Unstrapping her verpine, she aimed it towards the noise although she prepared herself to run if necessary. According to the kid, it would be an alpha. That couldn't be good. It wasn't even a usual one, it was going to be a testosterone amplified insanely tough one. Ughhh.

Out of instinct, Graal crouched low as the fight began with the alpha. By providing as small a target as possible, it would ensure the focus wasn't on him; and not because he was afraid, or wanted to avoid fighting, but simply because he had to move into position. Skinny limbs moving effortlessly in his lowered state, the boy crouch-shuffled, dark eyes narrowed as he watched the metal man attacking with loud weapons. Graal had his own loud weapon, in his spear, but this wasn't the creature to use it against... not unless it was a very loud one that stabbed through spike armor.

Sadly Graal didn't have anymore of that projectile.

Nonetheless, the metal man was clearly keeping the Zakkeg's attention. He shot, dived, shouted. Graal noticed the attention of the male shifting between the beast and the female, which prompted him to wonder if she was his mate, or offspring. Being protective led to getting killed, and the girl had to get into the fight to overcome her hesitation - the concern in her eyes was as obvious as the size of the Zakkeg alpha...

"Shu'pa," Graal muttered, as he disappeared into several bushes, smirking to himself.

Waiting for the right moment, the young boy kept watching, focused, spear held ready. And when the Zakkeg went to attack the metal man again, turning its flank to Graal, the hunter rushed forward with incredible speed, bursting out of the bushes. Closing the distance quickly, the boy twirled the spear and grabbed with both hands, as he lowered into a slide - and in the same motion, he stabbed into the armor gap of the creature's left rear leg, catching flesh. Pulling the trigger on his spear, a loud bang sounded, as a solid projectile was fired from within the weapon; it seemed the spear was also a rifle, and the slug added damage to the attack, causing the alpha to roar angrily and limp.

Continuing his movement, Graal evaded the stamping claws and feet, rolling toward another tree nearby. Ducking behind, the hunter peered from behind, wondering if the Zakkeg had focused elsewhere, as he reloaded the single shot rifle with another projectile from a small pouch on his belt...

Cassiopeia was an excellent marksman. Years of hunting on her home planet for survival, and dealing with raiders and slavers afterwards, had only amplified her natural skills. She had shot in wind, rain, snow, and the likes. She never had a huge issue with weather related events & shooting. However, what condition had she never shot in? Let alone, never thought she would be fighting in?

A colossal animal that actually made it seem like a mini-earthquake was occurring beneath her feet. Cassiopeia had to keep her feet on the ground and had to be careful to not fall over. This slight complication, along with how hidden the eyes were, made it difficult for Cassiopeia to get a good hit in its eye. It was relatively embarrassing for how bad she was doing, considering her buir was right beside her - also considering he was the general of the Mandalorian forces, too.

"Karking hell," she muttered as several of her bullets ricocheted off the beats thick armor. She decided she needed something that she could balance herself against. Her eyes glanced towards the stone wall that Kaine had mentioned earlier and she quickly ran, jumped over it. She used the wall to help stabilize her shots.

She had to admit, though, the kid was pretty brave. But he seemed like he already knew how to handle most of them - he must have been here for a long time. He had already gotten the beast in the leg. Was the spear also a rifle? Interesting. The outpost must have been his base. Home? She wondered how he got here. She quickly shook out of her thoughts, though - there'd be time to find out more about it later. Aiming her rifle, she continued to fire into the beast.

She eventually got a bullet into the gap in the front right leg, which caused the beast to cry out in agony but didn't seem to really slow it down that much. Maybe they'd slowly injure it to at least stop moving, so that way they could an attack through the eye & into the brain. Otherwise, this thing wouldn't go down.
