Ships and Plants and Things

The Vingilot was something else. Amaryllis hadn't expected such a big, beautiful ship nor what might come along with it. Indeed, it was something else all together. The small ship that she had found herself living on with Kahlil, Thiavi, and Kafh was in no comparison to this. Huge, intense, and full of people! So many people.

But like on the small ship she had arrived on, Amara wanted to make her useful for the cause. And sure, she may still be learning what exactly that cause is and was, but she was determined to learn. She had a lot of time to make up for, after all. And what better way for her to help than find a way to do what she did best?

Growing plants! A lucky trick she had learned through the Force as a mechanism for survival gave her the slightest of head starts in Force training, mostly as she could make manipulate plants to grow. So when she found out she may be able to help in restarting the hydroponics aboard the ship, Amara jumped at the chance.

Plus, a chance at being apart of something greater than just hunting and farming for herself in a jungle? This had to the way!

And needless to say, Amaryllis snuck into the semi-functioning room of the Vingilot with her eyes curious and generally without any idea of what to do. But hey, if she found plants, she'd totally make them bloom at least.

The sounds of gum popping echoed down a long corridor as Allyson and Bait made their way towards their meeting point with another member of their group. Her hands found their way into the military green jacket, one she would be found wearing more so than not. The Corellian pulled out a paper from the pocket and looked at the name, remembering the girl from the meet and greet. She had a knack for plants, which saved Allyson’s behind on this.

Plants weren’t something she knew much about, thinking about she had learned a lot from Jyoti who basically lived in a jungle back in her office when she was grandmaster. Still, Allyson wondered if Jyoti should have been here while they were working on the hydroponics. If anything became weird, she would call her up. Bait rolled through the door first and stood there with his flaps open with tools and the like. Allyson entered after to find the other girl already making herself mostly at home.

“Hey! Those apples were pretty good back when everyone got here. Good job, I think you’ll be a huge help.” A soft smile and she tucked the gum into her lip so that she didn’t accidentally drop it when she was talking. “Don’t’ know if you remember, but my name is Allyson and you’re Amaryllis?” Allyson asked as Bait behaved and started to pull out the tools for them to work with.

“We just got the hydroponics built, but it seems we’ve hit a snag. Some of the planets that I’ve planted don’t’ seem to like it much.” There was a sheepish embarrassment that crept over the Technomancer. She understood machines and ships better than anyone she had come across, well there were a few that impressed her. Patting the pods where the plants were growing weak, Allyson sighed. “Everything reads right, but there’s just something I’m missing.”

Hands returned to her worn jacket and she shrugged. “So that’s where you come in, tell me what you think is wrong and how we can fix it. I want this place to look like a jungle.” A grin and Allyson nodded, “You think you’re up for it?” [member="Amaryllis Tansea"]

The hydroponics of the Vingilot was actually pretty impressive, in truth. She had, of course, mastered the hydroponics aboard The Bastion. It was one of her first projects, especially as she assumed the role of the cook for the crew. Being hungry was no fun, and she had plenty of nights of hunger herself! But now there was a lot of food, food everywhere. And while her fruit did turn out to be an apple, it was still a delicious apple at least.

But waiting for the other woman, the mechanic that made this all possible, made her wonder about the mechanisms that made it all possible. They were in space, after all. Life wasn't meant to grow out here. Well, most life, anyway. There was probably life out there, living literally among the stars.

Smiling as [member="Allyson Locke"] arrived, she beamed with pride at the compliment about her apples. "Thank you!" She exclaimed in excitement, "This on... I worked hard to grow them." She sighed, proud of her sentence that seemed to actually be grammatically correct for once. "Hope to help! Plants are amazing, part of me," she said with a smile. Literally - she was half plant.

She gave a nod, "Allyson, I remember mostly," she said with a smile. She gave another nod in confirming her name, "But may call me Amara, if easier," she said as she watched the droid with great suspicion. After Thiavi's droid nearly killed her (even if it was technically harmless,) she had no like or desire to be around them. Too dangerous!

"Let me see," she commented as she crouched, examining the pods. Indeed, they were pretty weak. Barely making it out, in truth. She tutted with sadness, "Little seeds struggle," she whispered. No love, perhaps? The soil? Hm. "Can definitely help!" Worst case, she could always just give them an encouraging boost. "Maybe soil isn't quite good..."

Hazel eyes watched as the other girl moved closer to the pods admiring them, studying them. There was a moment of uncertainty in the Corellian, a rare moment where she doubted her work. She could have missed something in the building process that harmed the plants ability to grow, maybe she did something else, either way hopefully Amara could tell her.

Finally, there was something and Allyson nodded as she rubbed the back of her neck under the collar of the jacket as she looked up at the hydro pods. “Probably, I didn’t have lot of credits to get the top of the line soil, but I had hoped that the soil would have enough nutrients to get the plants a good start.” Frustration was written on Allyson’s face despite her attempts to hide it with her voice. If the soil was bad it meant they would have to buy more and spend money they didn’t have.

“Is there anything we can do?”

Amaryllis was so focused on the planets she almost didn't hear [member="Allyson Locke"]'s comment on purchasing the soil. It didn't feel like the soil was the issue - although she could definitely feel the soil was holding them back from their full potential. But this wasn't the jungle no more - indeed, there was no life cycle that made this soil.

"Not good but is not problem," she commented after a moment. She let her hand gently wave over a couple as they began to slowly bloom. This thing called the Force, what she had used for so many years on Akiva without even realizing it, would help in this situation. "Sometimes just need love," she exclaimed with a small smile.

"Nothing you did," she confirmed after a moment. "Just need little love, maybe," she said after a moment as she let her hand gently move right beside the plant, watching as the flowers began to bloom on it - along with small fruits. "Will take time," she confirmed.

But then it hit her. The air wasn't quite right - there wasn't enough air, specifically. Oh, what did it say in that book... Carbon! Carbon dioxide. "This one thinks it may be air flow, not enough circulation... Of, carbon dioxide," she gave an uneasy smile, unsure if she said the right word or not.

Allyson watched quietly as Amara went through her thoughts. So, it wasn’t the soil, it wasn’t the best soil, but it wasn’t what was stunting the growth of the plants. There was a relief there as Allyson nodded understanding better of the plants for the most part. Eyes grew wide as she sensed the tingling of the force as Amara called upon it. The plants started to blossom and provide fruit – it shouldn’t come as a surprise for Allyson. She could manipulate technology with the Force, what stopped it from manipulating plants?

A small smile crossed her face as she nodded agreeing with her current companion. “Maybe love is all they need.” She continued to examine the plants and her attention was pulled when Amara mentioned carbon dioxide. Allyson stepped away from the plants and folded her arms. “Could be that, I had assumed with us being here with them,” She paused and gestured towards everyone on the ship, “All of us would have provided enough carbon dioxide for them.”

Sighing softly, Allyson leaned against one of the adjacent walls and continued to think. “I don’t know how I can provide these guys some more carbon dioxide. They’re meant to help clean our oxygen and feed us while in space.” A thumb pressed several times against Allyson’s forehead as she tried to figure something out.

“Can you use the force to make carbon dioxide?” Allyson asked with hope, but she knew it was a silly question. [member="Amaryllis Tansea"]
