Manda'yaim was destined to be trouble, that much had become obvious since the Sith Empire's invasion and subsequent occupation of the Mandalorian Homeworld; Unfortunately Kauri Tu-Matauenga was a gambling man and had sworn by his word that he would see the remains of his ver'gebuir, the closest thing to a true Father and Mentor that Kauri had ever had. Nikau Kryze was the man who brought Kauri into the life, introduced him to the resol'nare and what it meant to have ijaat. Honor. Family had been nothing but a false promise before then, yet everything since had given Kauri purpose and a sense of belonging. That was at-least, up until Nikau had died fighting to defend the very world he wished to be put to rest upon.

They'd been under the guise of a merchant vessel, falsified IFF Transponder codes and hoped to pass the Sith Fleet unscathed. It all sounded very simple, a rag-tag bunch of mercenaries, none of them whom Kauri knew at all yet what other means had he of living up to an oath such as this. The Sith had seen through the codes within minutes and they'd been forced to high tail it to the surface, only TIE's had cut them off and lit up the backside of the ship like nobodies business. From there, it had been hard to tell if it had been a controlled descent or a free-fall. The last thing Kauri could recall was shouting at the sound of cargo hitting the roof before he had blacked out.

When he awoke, the situation hadn't improved. Kauri Matauenga lay flat upon his back, alarms blaring around him whilst he looked through a blurred gaze as those survivors all desperately fled before the Sith could come down on them to finish the job. His head was pounding, his face wet with his own blood and he had to pry a large wooden crate off of him in order to try to stand. The cargo that had fallen did nothing to make things any easier, his mid-section felt like he'd been kicked by a bull.

What's more...-Where the hell were they planning on running to. From what Kauri gathered as he struggled his way to the airlock already open from the first to make a bolt for it, the vast open landscape was nothing but desert and the occasional cliff face. No Domed Cities, no structures within site. All there was, was a plume of thick black smoke coming from their downed vessel...

"Chit..." He swore under his breath, dropping down to the hardened sand and having nothing left but to make a break for it himself. Screw the others though, they'd go their separate ways and Kauri would take his chances. Hopefully whoever came looking for them would find the larger numbers more appealing and leave him to die out there of his own accord.

As soon as the ship came crashing into the ground hundreds of thoughts rushed through Kes' mind. The first one being, why did he decide to work for another Mandalorian. Kes had begrudgingly taken the job when he was offered it as he still held many Mandalorians with contempt for what happened to his parents. Either way, he needed the credits and this was one of the few opportunities he had to visit Mandalore after it had been invaded by the Sith Empire. He wished to visit it because while he may not always enjoy the precense of other Mandalorians Kes himself was one of them and visiting the homeworld of all Mandalorians was a good way to put himself back on the path of a Mandalorian.

Kes woke up strapped into one of the passanger chairs, the first thing he sees is the other survivors scrambling away from the craft. It made him chuckle, the high and mighty Mandalorians scurrying away like rats. Kes quickly followed suit, unstrapping himself from the seat and finding his Blaster Carbine he quickly exited the damaged craft before spotting his employer, Kauri Tu-Matauenga. "Oh no. You're not getting rid of me so fast. You're still gonna pay me." he thought to himself before rushing after him. It was something the underworld taught him. Always make sure you'll get paid, protect your employer if you have to.

Running on the hardened sand Kes couldn't help but feel uncomfortable. This didn't exactly look like a planet brimming with the finest warriors in the galaxy as his parents described. Instead it looked like the hundreds of other desert backwater planet Kes had visited when he worked as a thug for any criminal boss who payed enough. If he had been able to catch up to Kauri Stag would say "Nice flying. It seems your plan to use IFF Transponder codes went so kriffing well." in his usual sarcastic and degrading tone.

Kauri turned at the sound of movement, shuffling feet against the sand, one of the hired mercenaries eager to keep their deal and earn his pay. "Nah Brother, wasn't me behind the controls" Kauri shook his head, looking passed the other to the wreckage of the transport vessel, flames rising up from it's broken hull; "Guess I should've gone for more expensive help" he remarked on their current circumstance, a reluctant chuckle escaping him at the expense of his better judgement.

Wherever they had been forced to land, it wasn't the picture of the Mandalorian Homeworld that Kauri had imagined from the stories Nikau Kyrze had shared with him. "You got any contacts around these parts the Sith ain't gotten to yet?" He asked as they continued to trek the barren plain, the skies were open and any chasing vessels would be easily spotted, yet vice versa they'd be standing out like the balls on a Bantha were the Sith to come swooping down on them.

Strapped and holstered to his hips, his two LRH-5A's were a comforting reminder that he wouldn't be taken down without a fight, although he had yet to meet with his contact in Mandalarms to retrieve his Bekar'gam, his present attire nothing the likes of what he'd prefer to be wearing were he to have to take on the likes of the Empire. Part of the over-all gamble at the end of the day.

"What's yer' name anyway".

Took one last look at the burning wreckage and briefly wondered if anyone else got out. The thought was soon dismissed when Kauri asked his questions "The name's Kes Stag. Gunrunner, Mandalorian and thug for hire." he said while keeping his Carbine close. Kes got a measure of the man he worked with, apparently a Mando but looked more like a smuggler. "And as for contacts I have none on this dustball. The high and mighty Mandalorian clans who lived here before the Sith don't appreciate people such as myself. I don't view them any better for that matter." he continued as they walked across the barren wasteland. Kes eyed Kauri's pistols. Verpine Shatter Pistols if his knowledge in Arms was correct. A little part of Kes hoped a Sith patrol would find them so he could see them in use.

Kes wasn't exactly sure what he would find here and his body language showed it. For all his sarcasm and slander Kes' body seemed tense and uneasy. His status of an outcast still bothered him and the thought of meeting a clan of Mando's concerned him. Kes turned back to Kauri to take his mind off those thoughts. "What's your name anyway and what do you do. I like to know who I'm working with." Kes said with a pause before asking his next question. "Also, could you please explain why I left the comfort of my ship to trod across a wasteland with you. This isn't exactly what I envisioned when I was told we were heading back to Mandalore." Kes spoke in a slightly snobbish accent. Made him sound like he felt he was too good for those around him.

"People such as yourself?" Kauri had to take a second glance at Kes wondering what exactly about the man gave the Clans to regard him in such a manner; "You don't seem all so different from myself" he remarked with half a smirk, giving the man a sideways nod in acknowledgement. Given the situation developing around them, he had nothing to be smirking about, though distractions made for easier times.

"My name's Kauri, brought into Clan Kryze by Nikau Kryze. My burcyan" he explained. Kauri's adoption into the Mandalorian Culture had come much later in life, though he had taken to their way with great heart; a sense of purpose and identity where as before he had held none and owned even less. "Aliit ori'shya tal'din" he reiterated. Family is more than blood.

"I came to Manda'yaim to keep a promise. My guess is you're here because you needed the credits" Kauri had left the planning to the mercenary band that had taken them this far, subsequently it hadn't worked out as planned...

"Get me on the surface, that's all I told the fools" he shook his head, growling under his breath as he cast his eyes upon their surroundings. "I thought the Clans had terraformed this World. Why in the hell did we land in this chit-hole".

"Outcasts, Exiles. Whatever you call that type of people. I happen to be one of them." he said with a shrug. Kenth continued to survey the barren wasteland. Kes wondered once more on the other survivors. There were certainly more than just the two of them wandering this wasteland. He turned back to Kauri as he continued speaking.

"I work for the credits as you said but I'll admit, outcast or not I still want to see Manda'yaim. Of course now I've realised it's nothing more then a wasteland I'm not too sure I want to be here." He answered back. Kes had been listening to the Kauri carefully. From what he gathered Kauri was clansmen who had been inducted into Mandalorian life. It appeared he didn't own or decided not to wear his Beskar'gam and it sounded like Kauri he had taken Aliit ori'shya tal'din to heart . Pretty much the things Kes despised. An outsider had been freely allowed to join while Kes, a son of an actual Mandalorian remained an outcast among his people.

Unfortunately for Kes he needs to be paid and starting a fight wouldn't do him any good. The only thing he could do was talk about how much he hated the clans. "That's the clans for you. They care little for anything apart for adhering to the Resol'nare like zealots. Probably thought terraforming was beneath them. Ibac ra val nibral at Gev te darjetii ru'duumir Manda'yaim alorir at ibic" Kes said. His Mando was far from perfect but Kes was practicing. He managed to get the general idea across, perhaps because the clans failed to stop the Sith it lead to Mandalore becoming what it is today. A wasteland.

"Supposedly the Clans under Yasha Cadera terraformed Manda'yaim" Kauri replied, "If that's true then we landed in the most chit part of it" he snickered, looking to Kes with an eye of skepticism. Their slog across the desert dragged on with every heavy step within the loose sand, the heat making it easy to appreciate the lack of armor; although that sentiment could quickly change.

"Aruetiise" He gave Kes' mention of those Outcast and ill regarded by the Clans, "It's a harsh thing to call one of our own. Mandalorian's should not be at war with their own as far as I'm concerned"; although Kauri didn't have the experience not lived lifestyle among the clans compared to many others. Nikau Kryze and Kauri had travelled many places, yet stayed in no single place for any real duration of time.

"Clansman or not, I have no grudge against our own. I'm not sure what it takes to be considered Mando'ade by others but I would sooner believe us one people all the same...-Perhaps I'm a fool for it, I don't know" he spoke his thoughts aloud, seemingly not feeling the need to be cautious in speaking such things.

"The Darjetii turned on the Clans in their weakest hour, their victory held no honor. Were we whole, they would not have taken Manda'yaim so easily".

Chuckled at the mention of the Mandalorians being whole. "We Mandalorians have warred against each other since our inception. Clan feuds, territory disputes and civil wars, only ever stopping when a Mandalore unifies the clans for some great crusades." Kes said. "Our clans and people are more divided than most think. All outsiders see is Mandalorians unified for a great crusade. Won't they don't see is the civil wars and strife."

"Outcasts are caught up in the middle. Struggling Mandos exiled for the most minor crimes. And once someone becomes Dar'manda the only path to redemption is a suicide mission which only works half the time."
Kes continued. Whether what he said was true or not about the current Mandalorians didn't matter to Kes. He spoke from his viewpoint and personal experiences of a lifetime of scorn.

As they continued walking Kes stopped. Not the smartest move but walking pointlessly in a desert seemed useless. "Right. You're going to tell me where we're going. That is if you know where we're going. I don't want to walk in a village and find out the only people living there are Darjetii". Kes' wouldn't move until his question was answered. All he knew is they were trying to find Kauri's burcyan but without any direction they would need to start coming up with a plan instead of marching aimlessly.

Kauri Tu-Matauenga didn't have the faintest idea where they were headed, he'd only been on Manda'yaim once before when Nikau Kryze had brought him there wanting to bring him into Clan Kyrze on the Mandalorian home-world rather than some random backwater world no one cared for. What's more was the fact that he wasn't there to look for anyone, but to spread the ashes of his fallen Burcyan out of respect to his life and dedication to the resol'nare.

"Sorry brother, I ain't got no answers for ya on that front..." Kauri answered him, slowing in his pace and turning to look back to Kes Stag Kes Stag with an honest shrug of his shoulders, "But anything's better than standing near that burning mess and waiting for the Darjetti to come down on top of us, yeah?".

Kauri figured that if they could make it to some sort of shelter, whether it be some sort of cave or woodlands nearby, anything to give them a chance to rest and recuperate, then they could wait out the night and decide where to from there. The problem was not knowing where in seven hells that kind of shelter was in line with their current whereabouts. Wherever the kark that was.

Pulling a small leather bag from his satchel, Kauri lofted the small bundle through the air with a light pass to Kes, a significant purse the agreed upon amount of credits for his assistance. "I'm not forcing you to stick around brother, if you wanna bug out I won't blame you. You've landed knee deep. Plan's gone to hell...".

"Granted, I may not know much about the Clans but I don't expect anyone to die for me. Don't need that chit on my conscience".

Catching the pouch of credits in the air Kes checked inside to see if it was the right amount. Once he confirmed it was all good he looked up at Kauri "As much as I want to get off Manda'yaim and back onto my ship I'm pretty much as lost as you are." he said motioning towards the vast empty desert. "Apart from that I'd rather not face Darjetii alone. Never seen one before but I've heard the odd tale." Kes continued. He had spent most of his time in the underworld, places like Nar Shaddaa and Nal Hutta. Places far from the reach of any Sith and the centre of all things crime related.

"Sorry but I wouldn't die for you anyway. Don't really know who you are 'vod' and I'm not like those clansmen who would throw away their lives for each other." Kes would say the word vod in a sarcastic tone, he didn't know the man that well after all and Kes certainly had issues trusting people. Especially other Mandalorians. But he was still lost and sticking with Kauri seemed like the best way to secure his immediate survival. "I'll stick around until we reach somewhere with a space port. If you really think you don't need my services by then I'll be on my way, find a nice job. Hopefully running guns for some Outer Rim warlord, got a few debts to settle there."

With that Kes continued following Kauri. Not too sure where he was going but hoping something would come along soon. His suits internal coolers were starting to overheat. The damn coolers were one of the few things that had kept Kes going.
