Strengths:
- Deflective Defense: Once again as per standard Imperium ship a great deal of focus is put on keeping the ship alive and hull strength along with deflector shield and armor. The large prow able to deflect shots, and ram things if needed.
- Big Engines: Out fitted with 6 capital class ion engines the Lanceae is able to maintain a good speed for a ship it's size, allowing it to keep up with escorts and run form danger. In addition a wise captain may be able to use this speed to get into combat, release a devastating broad side and get out before the enemy can react properly.
- Big Boom: Replacing the front lance with torpedo tubes over all increases the fire power of such a ship, allowing it to target more then one craft, deliver a larger pay load or disable the enemy if one is wanting to capture it.
- Troop Movement: Though not having the ability to carry fighters there was enough left over space from the initial designs to make room for more troop barracks and other facilities. This means the Lanceae can carry a decent number of ground tropps
- No Buzz about: Being a dedicated ship of the Line the Lanceae was not fitted with room to carry any fighters into battle, meaning it relies on other ships to provide a proper escort for it when in a skirmish.
- Swing Around: Although the use of torpedo tubes on the front does mean precise fire is not as much of a problem, the ship still needs to maneuver quite a bit for it to use its other weapons when in battle.
- Power Up: The two side lances once again takes time to power up and shoot as it did back in the clone wars, even with modern improvements. This limits constantly using it over and over again.
History of Development: The Siluro Class Cruiser is a variant of the already existing cruiser in the Tythish navy, the most notable difference being the use of 6 prow mounted anti-capital ship torpedo tubes instead of the heavy artillery laser. The main reasoning for making such a ship came from the problems of the lance batteries used as once fired they took time to power up again and could be easily damaged by short aimed at the front.
As a counter to this the torpedo tubes allow for the main weapon battery to be hidden and protected inside the large front plow, though in addition give the crew the option to disable a ship instead of destroying it. Such coming in the form of Ion torpedoes and other EMP based ordinance, though such comes at the cost of speed due to the mass of said ammunition. Over all the ship is more or less the same, but with a few slightly differences that a crafty captain can take advantage of.
Operational Use: The Siluro should be used in the same manner as it's sister ship class, though one should be sure to note that this craft packs a slightly larger punch and is slower. As such it is often best to use it a little closer to an intended target to maximums damage while staying near covering ships. This makes the Siluro more of a ship of the line then it's counter part and as such must be more closely guarded. It is therefore recommended to pair the craft with it's sister ships class, such making a deadly duo.
