Siobhan Kerrigan

I suppose it's feedback time again!

Last time I posted such a thread was on March 14, 2015. Since then a good deal has happened.

For one, Siobhan had to move since her writer was so mean to drop a massive asteroid on her home (Kaeshana). Now she's set up on Tygara and playing Oriental despot and East India Company, I mean benevolent autocrat!

She killed her former nemesis and tormentor, Darth Shadow (and needed a new leg after it), faced Darth Vornskr again on Contruum and recently had a fun fight with Matsu Xiangu. She needed a new hand after that one.

The maimings totally aren't intentional. Despite all the ups and downs of their relationship, her and Tegaea are still happily married.Anyhow, I wanted to hear what you folks thought of her, where there could be room for development and so on.

As you mentioned, we haven't had TOO many threads together at least at the moment, but from what I have experienced I totally dig Sio's character. I sort of imagine her as this "wall", both in personality and power. Strong female characters are my weakness anyways. I like that she does her own thing and doesn't subscribe to one belief system or another.

As someone who likes to beat her characters to hell, the limb replacements are only realistic for someone who throws herself in to the thick of things like Sio.

I think dueling a character like Siobhan with another writer could get out of hand pretty quickly, but from my experience she has weaknesses to balance the insane powerhouse she is. And the weaknesses don't detract from taking her seriously - they make her more real. Well-crafted. Glad Matsu can mess with minds, because otherwise we'd be pouring concrete over her body and making a shrine of her pretzel-body on Kaas.

EDIT: Also, totally forgot to mention that my alt Shezi Khoza's eventual TK/shielding specialty is definitely inspired solely by Sio after the Lotek'k thread. I JUST WANNA LIFT A BUILDING TOO!

I have a lot of fun writing with you. And now that I have one of my alt involved with the family Kerrigan and Co, this has added to Abaigeal's life on the boards. Sio's development, is still very much in the making I think, which is very much credit to you as a writer. She is well set up force wise, strong and power and all that, but her life as a 'person', is still under construction which only gives you much more RP to come.

#RedheadsRule!

;)

Is this what the champions of democracy do to those that disagree with them?

Throw their sullied lady products at them?

Considering that this is a feedback/critique thread, here we go.

Seeing as Siobhan is a telekinetic savant, I find her use of paramilitary forces a bit of overkill.

In general, it's a thing that bothers me with highly powerful Force users, so no, it's not a personal attack. A NFU with a hit squad and/or tech makes sense an an equalizer. With a Force user, you already have a potentially very strong grasp of the most powerful thing in the universe.

Thanks! Siobhan was deliberately written as being outside the Jedi-Sith dichotomy. Started out as a Jedi, but that was largely for OOC reasons due to the rules on the board she started out as. Her being with them never really made sense since she was an awful Jedi and didn't care about their beliefs. Going Sith clashed with her backstory since it conditioned her to hate them. Her somewhat skewed moral code largely begins and ends with her family.

Very true. Her TK is very op and I admittedly did some silly stuff in the past, like using Force Flight in a far too over the top manner. I've tried to balance things by making her susceptible to mentalism and inherently crappy at lightsabre duelling.

She's gotten a lot better at dealing with mind rape, but it's still a big vulnerability. Especially since she easily flies into a self-destructive, berserk rage. Her being crappy with lightsabres (or melee combat in general) is partly because I frankly suck at writing it, partly because I figure all her skill atrophied. She can use a glowstick for blaster and lightning deflection, and that's largely it, aside from using the pointy end to clumsily stab people. Since she's lacking in mobility she's quite static in combat.

I like your castle. Maybe I'll take it one day. :D

Thanks. Mum Sio is favourite Sio.

I understand your point and accept it, though I respectfully disagree. Not a criticism of your viewpoint, I'd just like to explain mine. I thank you for voicing your thoughts. Especially because they're a critique. :)

Siobhan is not a Jedi or a Sith. Her primary socialisation was in a military environment, namely Omega Pyre, where she rose as an officer, fighting alongside and commanding NFU soldiers. Ergo why she knows how to use guns, dresses in armour and so on.

Now she helps run Firemane, which is partly a paramilitary company. She's the one who commands their soldiers in battle and she knows how deadly anti-Forcer tech can be. Sio's own wife is an ex-soldier.

To her the Force is just a weapon among others. She's also experienced situations where she was deprived of the Force (way back when she was a Jedi she briefly lost it and had to go on a quest to regain it), so she wouldn't solely rely on it. I can understand if this isn't everyone's cup of tea. She's not a classical Forcer like you see in the movies. That's deliberate.

Thank you for actually making a measured reply as opposed to just flying off of the handle. I'm not trying to tell you how to portray a character, just to clarify.

I'd also like to point to Siobhan's reply as a solid model of how to take criticism without getting butthurt. You've gained this Bith's respect OOC for that.

I just want to make sure its clear that I wasn't accusing you of bring OP with Sio. You took hits like a champ in our duel and I've no doubt thats the rule and not the exception. I'm looking forward to the day I can duel Sio with Shezi. I pity the planet on which that takes place.

Thanks! Just to clarify, I didn't interpret your post as an accusation.

Sio/Shezi should be fun. :d

Sio and Keira need some kind of fight/sparring match at some point. One TK master versus another. What could go wrong? :p

I've not written with you personally I don't believe, but I've read a number of your posts, including your duels, and they're great. From all that I've seen everything is very balanced and well played out, with nothing extremely over the top or in your face. Sure, she's powerful, but so is anyone with any large amount of training. That power is balanced, as is the character, which is what's important. Keep doing what you're doing, because it's working great from all I've seen.

Agreed! That would be cool. Sure we'll get the opportunity.

There'd be such magnificient carnage. :)

I do see some similarities between them. Both in background and personality. So them running into each other would be fun.

You're an amazing writer with a diverse array of non-traditional characters that are complex and well-developed.

My one complaint is Sio isn't nearly blue enough. Maybe dye the hair purple? All the cool people have purple hair...
