Sith and Light sabers

Ok as it says on the tin, I;ve seen it quoted by Sidious that the sith grew out of light sabers long ago but still use them to humor and "humiliate" the Jedi. Not sure I entirely understand how they out grew it and thus why their using them to humiliate the jedi. I can see how it could be deemed a humiliation just not sure the core of how they reached this is understood by me.

Ok can I get a none condescending answer? My point is simply this is stated in novels and such but never explained or extrapolated on. But hey if I am just gonna get snark I'll assume it's sidious giving BS.

Lightsaber combat in the view of Sith is a Tedious task and waste of energy. Their faith goes into the power of the darkside and its power. Darth Plagueis rarely used his lightsaber, Infact he was very reliant on his force powers. A Weakness if you ask me..

Oh, you're serious. My bad. Your spelling made me think you were joking. :p

I'd recommend you check out who the author of the book was first. EU books and their authors tend to deviant in wild, wild ways. This is probably just one of those crazy things that an EU author slipped in there without checking with the Board-of-SW-Consistency first.

Happens all the time. :D

[member="Jay Scott Clark"] if your just gonna keep throwing insults I suggest stopping. I;ve already reported you to the admins now once.

[member="Kezeroth the Malevolent"] thank you and I guess that makes more sense, I agree it seems a weakness as they obviously still kept teaching it so it had some practicality. I am guessing Sidious also was a tad full of himself as it was. I have to think while they may dislike saber combat as a base concept they kept it out of needed over some truly mocking affront to the jedi who never seemed to get this joke.

Calm down. He's not trolling, and he has a point. That sounds like an extremely shakily-sourced claim. Sith in every single Star Wars product I've seen readily use their lightsabers without considering it condescending. Even Sideous pulled his out to dispatch a couple of Jedi Masters. Sith revel in physical combat as a way of direct domination over others. Lightsabers are the perfect tool for that.

[member="Fabula Cavataio"] I am going off a quote thats attributed to sidious himself. Stating the Sith long evolved out of it and only still studied it to mock the jedi.

Sideous was a very non-physical Sith, hence the use of the term "even." Dooku was trained a Jedi and put heavy stock in his ability with a lightsaber, and the lightsaber as a whole. Maul put such value into his lightsaber that he personally forged four crystals for it and dedicated his life to its mastery. Assaj Ventress was much more interested in her laser sword than her Force powers. And of course, Anakin was a master swordsman who found the practical applications of having an invincible magic weapon sweet when he was the only one in the galaxy to have one.

None of these characters ever expressed the idea of it being mockery, nor did any Sith in the Old Republic or Legacy eras. Sith love lightsabers.

[member="Fabula Cavataio"] Then I have to imagine it's Sidious view point rather than an actual sith view. For him it makes sense given his insane level of force power usage. Again he never elaborates that I know of on this or explains it. This lead me to wonder if it was more his ego and view of his own power more than an actual Sith viewpoint.

[member="Fabula Cavataio"] yeah this seems to fit more in line with how I;ve seen the sith. Sidious's grand scheme did not involve him personally hacking up jedi everywhere. It was to attack them as they thought they had found their true enemy. Instead not realizing they had been played for fools. So likely this is him explaining his view that he rather use his mind and the force and conjure up ways to handle problems and in the end seeks to on a grand scale mock the jedi by showing them how short sighted they were and so easily deceived.

[member="Valiens Nantaris"] Well seems we have a basic consensus and I think it shows when we see how many Sith empires collapsed. If they were so far ahead of it that should not have kept happening. So I assume in the end it is Sidious's ego talking more than facts.

[member="Valiens Nantaris"] well it's the case when everybody is always clamouring for the top spot and the way you get it is by offing the guy on top strife is inescapable.

I remember that line - I want to say it's either in the Book of Sith or the RotS novelization. Something else to remember: Sidious never, in any source I've ever seen, tells the unvarnished truth. I'm not sure he's capable of it. Whatever he says is skewed to push his audience in one direction or the other.

I would say (as a Dark Jedi point of view) there is really nothing more advance then a Lightsaber, and sounds much more like Sidious just being plain ignorant, or pompous. I mean, this is a weapon that can cut off a arm in a single slice, keep the person from bleeding out because of the sheer heat of the weapon, and if you really think about it, from (correct me if I am wrong) photo sabers, to force sabers, to actual lightsabers, they really are the apex at their own evolution as weapons go, as you see weapons like, guns, swords, bows, are all still evolving, the lightsaber can go no further then what it has become.
Right?

As I understood it, he was referring to the entire Sith history. Prior to Bane creating the Rule of Two, there were Sith in abundance to fight all-out wars with Jedi. But, over time and because of Bane, they learned the true way to fight is to lay low and let them believe the Sith were extinct. Instead of fighting the Jedi with lightsabers, they did it now with subterfuge and cunning. Hence evolving from their use.

I believe you're taking his quote too literally, without taking into account the Sith teachings as they've progressed over the years.
