The Sith Banking Clan (SBC) is the federalized banking system of the Sith Empire, and functions as an all-encompassing monetary authority, treasury, and commercial banking sector for all Sith citizens and businesses. The SBC has gained a well-deserved reputation as a bank that aggressively put Sith interests first and is willing to engage in any manner of questionable commerce so long as it turns a profit.
To fulfill its mandate, the SBC:
- Issues and controls the official currency of the Empire, the Sith Autarch, and provides banking services to all Sith citizens.
- Collects taxation revenue and treasures plundered through the expansion of the Empire to neighboring worlds to enrich the Empire and fund its Galaxy-spanning conflicts. The armed Sith Revenue Collection Authority collects unpaid taxes and transports seized assets using their Usury-class Treasury Ships.
- Approves, via the Sith Foreign Investment Board, all foreign investments in Sith space and all major investments by Sith citizenships in foreign entities.
- Facilitates and protects the (often illegal) interests of loyal corporations through its network of Sith Banking Trade Associations. Sith interests are safeguarded by the SBC and are afforded higher priority over other business transactions.
The SBC is headed by a Grand Moff who holds the title of Grand Treasurer and is supported by a number of Vice Treasurers, High Treasurers, and Deputy Treasurers. Major functions of the SBC, such as the Trade Association and the Revenue Collection Authority, are headed by Moffs.
RATIONALE
The InterGalactic Banking Clan was one of the most influential commerce guilds in the galaxy's history prior to the Four Hundred-Year Darkness. After the Darkness, the commerce guild fell on hard times for several decades as the galaxy struggled to recover from a long period of financial and technological regression, with several institutions such as the First Bank of Tion rising up to fill the void.
After many devastating attacks on the Clan's assets on Muunilinst, a good deal of their operations were moved out of the system and closer to the Core. But as the Core gradually became more and more unstable during the war between the One Sith and the Republic, most of the native Muun shareholders decided to return to their home to strengthen their hold in the region.
This influence was nearly threatened again by the emergence of the Sith Ascendancy from the fortress world of Bastion, but after some fierce negotiations and a display of force at Mygeeto, the Banking Clan reached an accord with the Ascendancy to resume operations as an independent entity under their protection.
When the Sith Ascendancy later took over the planets of Scipio and Muunilinst they came to an agreement with the InterGalactic Banking Clan to allow the Muuns to continue to control and run their commercial operations with minimal Imperial oversight. But as the Ascendancy transformed into the Empire and the Sith expanded their domain from Kalee to Mon Cala, their eyes turned inward to reform their financial divisions to better stabilize their now-massive state.
Through a bloodless coup on Scipio, the Sith Empire effectively nationalized the InterGalactic Banking Clan holdings within their territory and placed all of the Clan's assets under the control of Grand Moff Beltis Kishar, the Grand Treasurer of the SBC. All foreign interests in the Banking Clan were excised and the Clan was repurposed to manage the Empire's finances and ensure that there was always enough capital to fund their wars along the frontier and across the galaxy. Following the fall of Muunilinst to the New Imperial Order, the Sith Banking Clan relocated its headquarters to Tiss'sharl.
