- Crowd Control: With its captivator armor and an array of anti-personnel weaponry, the UP-AW was specialized to operate in urban environments and combat unruly populations. It could use its arm to crush or subdue individuals, rip open doors, or pry open roofs in search of subversives.
- Heavy Armor: The walker's armor plating is stronger than its reconnaissance counterpart, the AT-OT, and is capable of taking more punishment as a result. This was necessary due to the walker's close proximity to narrow and easily hidden avenues, where insurgents could attack the vehicle and then disappear into the city-sprawl at the drop of a hat.
- Lack of Rear-Facing Weaponry: As with most Imperial walkers, all of the vehicle's weapon systems are turned forward so that the vehicle could attack anything that it looked at. However, this left the rear exposed to attack by enemy insurgents and soldiers, which was slightly remedied with the addition of thicker armor plating.
- Trip-Wire: Like any bipedal walkers, the UP-AW was vulnerable to anything that could cause it to topple over. The addition of the captivator arm could help catch or steady the walker before it crashed to the ground, but it was incapable of pushing itself back up when fallen.
The Sith-Imperial Urban Pacification Assault Walker, or UP-AW, is the preferred Sith-Imperial weapon for pacifying urban centers as the regime battles to occupy the major star systems of the Outer Rim. While the official surrender of a world to the Sith Empire is usually done in ministerial chambers with the signing of a treaty, such diplomatic solutions often don't trickle down to the street, where subversives fight back against the mechanized invaders. Built upon a legacy of Imperial walker designs stretching back decades, the UP-AW is ideal of surgically rooting out entrenched guerillas and rounding up troublemakers while keeping the surrounding cityscape more or less intact.
The Empire's larger, more heavily armed, AT-HE and AT-RT walkers can dominate open battlefields with their devastating firepower, but deploying them in an urban area would likely demolish the city in question. When occupation rather than obliteration is the intent, the UP-AW is the perfect compromise between mobility, defense, and armament. For basic locomotion, the UP-AW uses its two main legs in a digitigrade walk cycle. The central limb doubles as both a stabilizer for fixed-position firing and a manipulator. This limb can tear into buildings, crashing through roofs and clearing obstacles. When fully extended, the limb ends in a manipulator claw that can hold a victim captive, immobilizing them or -- if desired -- crushing them outright.
During such operations, the UP-AW is always accompanied by a platoon of Legionnaires and aerial drones that aid in the clearing of buildings and the detaining of subversives.
