The Skipper-class Pulse Turbolaser Cannon is a state of the art advanced Turbolaser cannon technology development by the Engineers at Mon Calamari Shipyards. The Skipper is the culmination of Mon Calamari turbolaser research. Utilizing technology and design innovations of the previous turbolaser projects have lead the Engineers at MCS to a revolutionary design in offensive weapon systems. It is designed for standard range engagements in mind where its powerful rapid-fire punch can be best utilized.
The Skipper Pulse Turbolaser works by Energizing plasma and passing it through a series of multiple magnetic field generators. These fields separate the energized plasma bolts and separate them into multiple contained charged plasma fields where it is allowed to coalesce, agitate, and build up. Upon firing, One by one each magnetic field is de-energized, allowing the bolt energy to be redirected and released at a target. The very rapid release of energy layers builds an onion type bolt where each layer is released in its own containment forming a multi-field bolt of energy. This bolt then travels the distance to its target whereupon impact the first layer impacts the target followed in succession by each of the following layers of energy. Utilizing advanced cooling systems, multiple redundant charge capacitors, and a triple redundancy power transfer system, the Skipper can achieve twice the rate of fire of a standard turbolaser That in addition to its fast-tracking mount the Skipper can pan and fire far better than standard turbolasers
While each layer is far less powerful than a standard turbolaser bolt the combined energy from the successive impacts causes substantially more damage as each bolt contains more condensed power over a shorter time period. Overall the weapon system is equal in power to three standard turbo laser cannons. This improvement in the rate of fire and firepower comes at the price of a larger weapon system. Multiple power and gas systems, as well as the weapon system itself, make the Skipper more space than a standard turbolaser. This along with its increased weight limits its installation to corvette sized vessels or larger.
