Objective: Bring back Flashpoints in a manner that is relevant to the community and encourage major factions to hold hands.
Staff Effort: Minimal. Staff would only have to watch for obvious exploitations of this ruleset.
Suggestion: Revive Flashpoints as an upgraded skirmish once certain conditions are met. Flashpoints 2.0 exist in the following form:
When a skirmish grows to include at least three major factions, it is upgraded to a flashpoint.
Major faction participation, at a minimum, must be four writers per faction.
From the date of escalation to flashpoint, the thread has three weeks to reach a concluding point.
Flashpoints are not traditionally reviewed by staff. The leaders of the conflicting major factions will gather and decide a Victor.
The winning faction(s) are granted a boon for the month the Flashpoint was launched. Their final Dominion for the month is free and does not require any posts. However, this hex is still vulnerable to rebellions like any Third Dominion.
If the leaders cannot decide a Victor, then no faction is given this boon.
If it is clear that the participating factions are abusing this ruleset, they will be subject to losing an existing hex as a consequence.
Thoughts: When I think of Flashpoints, I think of the original invasion of Roche from way back in the day. That invasion involved everyone practically - the who's who of Chaos came out in droves and the thread had lasting ripples for months to come. In recent history, I think of Endgame as an example. Flashpoints, to me, are something that the entire site can get in on. A big brawl that rewards the winner in a huge way.
This would encourage factions who don't want to get into the invasion game to jump into inter-faction warfare at some level. It would also encourage collaboration between faction leaders and coming to a consensus regarding their own performances.
Frankly, the opportunities are immense here for a great time all around in my opinion. What do you think?
