Sleeping on the Job
1 Month After the Battle
Bed.jpg

Following this.

Medical Wing
Along a medical bed, regulated life signs, feeding tube and heart monitor. Mostly a stable condition, the heart being restarted at Ruusan had almost always been stable but the pulse was not entirely healthy as of late. Coming and going, fighting, either he was going to wake up or move on from this life.

The battle for Ruusan to halt the growing threat along the border, had seen the Jedi Master lose a leg, but more importantly fall into a coma. His leg being reattached by a clever Jedi healer [member="Cathbodua"] had probably meant the Epicanthix would walk again, eventually, even if it may leave him with a limp, he still owed the woman his life.

None of these thoughts played out as coherent within his mind. They came as dreams or visions of his life. Time spent here with students, or away on rescue missions, retrieving sick and injured, or assisting those that needed help. Wars in the past, but they were long and happily gone. Most of his thoughts were on his wife [member="Elara Wahia"] and remained that way through much of the month.

Sitting in a log cabin in his mind, the day was bright, river running nearby and birds making noise. Amadis got up to chop wood, axe in his hand, splintering it piece by piece. The area looked perfect, just as a painting might describe it, non of it real of course in the slightest.

Cathbodua's medical bay wasn't normal compared to the others, larger with filtered lighting and well in the sub basement of the temple with a special wing leading to it. The lightning was less harsh on her skin as she worked on her patients and sitting there going over the fieldwork and reports of her own padawans who were working as healers in the field. The new ithorian and her Kuron padawan both served to be skilled healers or at the least medics. THey might not be doctors in the longer run when she rose up doing her own rounds with the medical droids. Bodysuit off leaving her in a traditional lab coat that blended in with the pale white skin, covered in burns, bruises, scars and damage that could be seen from her own training with the likes of Jericho as well as just being careless or suffering others carelessness. Her short black hair and some of the special backa crystals that could be absorbed by her skin along her cheek. She had the medical bay sealed to prevent people from just barging in down here and her own reputation as one of the harsher jedi was well earned while she stood there with clear muscles defines in her limbs. Training with a super soldier at five hundred times gravity to dodge attacks from shatter rifles was not something you screwed around with and was a prime reason for her endurance. "And how are we feeling today?" She said it not really worried about an answer but prepared to answer questions. The usual method of reading the patients mind wasn't going to work given his species but she could read far more from the tests.

If Cathbodua had checked his will, which was likely given how intelligent she was. She’d see everything had been left to his wife and mate, not that he had much! Banged up old ship, few family items, a blaster or two, Zacka would get the collection of hats, and Patches all the food he could carry, which was a lot!

That wasn’t important, what was important was that he’d asked not to disturb anyone with overlong ceremony. Strange given his sometimes prideful life, even if he learned humility as he’d aged. Kei didn’t want fanfare if he passed, maybe a party, session at the Voss bar on him, private cremation at sea, then gone.

But...

We weren’t there yet. Because he wasn’t dying today. Not while Voss and Elara were there as reason to live. The students and padawans, those he loved here and had worked or fought for, that’s what was waking him up.

She’d read his charts and see the leg would be troublesome, perhaps for the rest of his days, she’d saved nearly all of it, and restarted his heart even with all the bloodloss. All in all she’d been the hero that day, now she just needed to get him up and on his feet!

His heart was stabalizing but his body was becoming restless as a result. A fighter, the pretty picture he was a part of was being kicked at, the log cabin pulled to pieces inside his mind, because where he was, wasn’t real.

He was restless and standing over him she remained for the time watching him. One hand coming out as she touched his chest and with her strength she pushed to steady him down as she spoke. "Careful, you still have a lot of healing mentally and physically. I have saved your leg but you need to work on being able to walk fully." She stopped and adjusted the bed taking the side down so he could turn over while she began unclipping him from the monitors checking over him. "Now be careful and stay where I can see you. The doors are biometrically locked for me to access it and leaving is not advisable."

Coma patients were said to be able to hear you, and for Kei at least that much was true. Cathbodua’s voice over their month had been visitor at his imagined cabin, sometimes appearing as wild animal, other times passing neighbour or detached call of their wind.

Only now for the first time did he feel her hand press down upon his chest to hold him steady. Danger for coma patients was that they’d do themselves injury, so restraint was clever, especially on that reattached leg she might note!

Then with gasp of air, his eyes opened and his vitals perked up, good thing she had restrained him, as in his mind he was still back on that battlefield! Blinking awake, sweat pouring down his forehead and body. Amadis had looked better. Never your pretty boy blonde pinup, today he was as rough as he’d ever looked.

“Where am I?” Kei said feeling groggy, vague recollections, damage to the mind? Hopefully not but time would tell what parts of him needed work. If she could jog memory of what had happened and fill in any blanks. Rank might work for a former soldier!

She was looking at him and remained neutral with her expression as she watched him. "You are in the sub-basement of the temple. In my medical bay, I am Doctor Cathbodua from the jedi healers." She gave a small look down at him but waited for the time until she moved back a little. "You need to ease into this, you have been in a coma since Ruusan and a lot has happened." Her hand came up with a small scanner as she was running it along his body with a small nod of her head in agreement that he was at least alive with no general problems.

She had finally worked the courage up to come to where her mate was, it had taken all of her internal strength and control of emotion to make it to the door of his room. She HATED seeing him like this, he looked small, helpless and he was NONE of those things.

But from here she could finally hear his voice as the healer spoke with him. How was she to explain this fear to come? Her fear that he would never wake, or be the same.

She hung back still listening to him speak he sounded like Kei, but his voice was soft it lacked strength. It lacked confidence in knowing he was alright.

But was he alright?

She listened.

“Which medical bay?” Amadis asked. Adjusting. “Thanks.” Weak word, should be a better one for someone who’d saved your life, gripping her arm if she let him. His grip was understandably weak till he released it. "Owe you", owing someone your life, he’d not forget.

Coma since Ruusan. That triggered him to check his leg was there, and try to move it naturally, not stupid enough to try and stand on it straight away. His body ached, the entirety of it, if you’ve not used a body part for a month you’ll know why. Muscles had nothing in them, and they groaned, only rather than one part of him this was all parts of him. Left leg of course was worse of all, there was very dull feeling in it.

Parts and memories were coming back. “How many did we lose?” He asked Cathbodua, men, his men and those around them too. Remembered rifts, explosions, then the blade in the thigh. Coughing, throat felt dry.

“Elara?” Kei said. Had anything happened to her while he was away. "Coci, Matsu, Nato, Taiden...?" Could have gone on with names for an hour, she'd probably stop him before he went through the entire order!. His heart rate picked up, stresses and strains in the questioning. Reaction to the bodies first signs of movement for a month. In her care, and stubborn though he was, he’d heal faster if he followed a medics directions about when to stand or move.

"My medical bay." One of the few things she outright possessed as it was made to host her. Special lights, stainless sterile metal walls with field for each bed and she looked at the door as there was someone coming on the screens. "In the sub-baement of the temple." She flipped the switch to let the door open and added a little more light for him while he wa trying to move around waiting there. "As for the battle plenty were lot but it was not a total wash and loss of the Sanctum. We learned invaluable intel about their operations as well a what it was they were doing in the valley itself. The sith's willingness to destroy their own city was unexpected." She said it with a look on her face walking around and turning on the fields to keep people out of the small bubble around the bed. You couldn't just come into a sterile environment from outside.

He was hurt badly, she had seen him hurt before, broken ribs, bruises covering him from shoulder to foot but nothing quite like this she listened intently, she smiled when she heard her name not for any selfish reason but because she had missed him saying her name, she had missed his presence close to her, she missed him terrible.

She was determined to make sure he knew how much he meant to her, and how much this injury would not matter in the end. He was still [member="Kei Amadis"] .

She could hear the doctor talking Elara hearing was more than excellent yes the battle had been fierce, it is what she heard. Loss of life was not readily known yet, well not the exact numbers. But that was war, war took everything in its path no matter who it was. War destroyed famlies, homes, cities, planets and at times galaxies. War was no one's friend.

She knew Kei was concerned for her so she stepped from the shadows to stand in the door so that he would know she was alright, as for the others he mentioned. She could not say.

Rubbing his temples, like he’d been given one too many rights hooks to the jaw. The sedative was wearing off, Amadis blinked the sleep out of his crusty brown eyes. He felt another loss to, Natolines, not knowing more, they’d been out of contact some months.

About the city. “Their Sith.” Amadis said with what would have been a shrug had he been moving. Coughing loudly to one side. No puppies and rainbows having a Sith group on the border. These were dark times for the usually quiet corner of the galaxy. His failing when it counted there was only going to cost them more lives, that was more wound than his leg. “How bad?” He looked at the leg. Which probably wasn’t going to be skipping or dancing any time soon, and need rehab, Amadis was waiting for her call on that.

What they might notice now as the Master reconnected with the force, was again a developing sense of peace to him, his body and muscles relaxed. It might accelerating the healing a mild degree if he kept up the technique.

Looking up, his grin when he saw Elara, it brought color to the Jedi’s cheeks. He mouthed the words I love you through the glass door.

Looking at the two of them for a moment before she spoke starring at him and remaining stonefaced. "The sith had causalities but we are uncertain of the numbers on their side. We were unable to dig in and get them out whihc cost us even more lives so we will be more prepared next time." If there was a next time when she was walking and brought up her small cube as it glowed holding it over him with a small look. "Stay still, you are not fully healed and there is going to be a great deal of pain even with the nysillin sedatives." She remained there while looking over the datapad and didn't need to look up. "There is not much else, the injured were seen to by Sakura healers and sent away if they had managed to survive their injuries. The dead have been given funerals and burned to become one with the force. The rest as they say is just what has to happen."

She waved to him and mouthed back to him I love you, I miss you and winked at him. She wished he could come out right now, but some things required time.

Weaknesses love, longing, she knew it was but he was so much to her more than a mate, more than just her partner, he was her confidant, her strength when she felt it wavering, he was the voice of reason she needed when her own temper flared and all she could see was the direct path.

She smiled and listened, watched while paying attention.
