Smashball Commentators?

I attempted a go at this, but got distracted. If you'd want to use some of the things I'd already planned feel free to give me a shout.

The hardest part, I feel, would be balance. I doubt you'd ever find enough people to fill out teams player by player, but one writer to one team, that seems plausible. I personally think there would have to be some sort of attribute point system. Which of course is easier said than done, but without it, let's be honest. It'd be little more than X Number of teams that are all Pro-League and Nigh Unstoppable.

I'm sure with a few dedicated people it could have a fair system and be a great addition to the canon. I know at some point I do plan on having Neroba invest in Sports teams and events, it'd be awesome if they were live affairs instead of background fluff.

The system that I had already worked out (alongside [member="Catalys Maijora"] of course) was that people didn't write the teams (people are free to write the players, but more in an interacting with the galaxy kind of way).

The results of games were based upon dice rolls, with modifiers taking into account things like home advantage, winning streaks and losing streaks. I think the commentators would generally call and roleplay the story of the matches based on the predetermined results and then the RPing aspect would dip into betting and perhaps players interacting with each other after match (rivalries, sabotage, the press, perhaps even bribes to throw games and all that).

I like that, it would be a lot more work, but for added depth you could go as far as creating skill trees and archetypes that create an organic meta in what is effective and not effective. Then you run the game like a tabletop RPG, rolling dice, applying modifiers or debuffs to determine outcomes. If that's what you meant, that's fantastic. That'd definitely make it a fair way to play. It'd really come down to how much work do people want to put in to creating it, and how deep do you want the game system to be. The best wager is naturally something that is easily accessible, but deep enough that it shows which people have donated a great portion of their RP time in to fleshing out a Franchise.

The whole corruption aspect is of course the reason I intend on Neroba eventually entering the Sports realm :p

If you would like, I can invite you to the Faction where most of the planning has been done so you can check it out and maybe even get involved if you like. There's still a lot of fleshing out to do, but your input would be welcome. :)

The only concern I have about making the game more complex is just how much effort it'll take to run, the main worry is getting burnt out if there's too much to do for each game, if you know what I mean?

Naturally, it would have to be a fine balance act. If you used a Referee as a GM character though, that could probably alleviate some of the complexity. Or add to it, don't know lol.

Yes, please. Shoot me an invite when you have a moment. I'd love to take a look once I get back from work.
