So if we're gonna have a Navy...

We're going to need ships. Lots of them. Anyone have anything in mind? Are we going to use ones made by other factions/companies, or are we going to make our own?

We don't need to spam the factory with ships. Its a notion that is honestly boar culture but completely unnecessary. Wookieepedia is filled to the brim with better, stronger, and faster capital ships than we could ever make in the factory. That is what we will use.

If someone wants to make a personal ship for themselves and tag it as One Sith, thats fine but we -really- don't need to start spamming the factory with submissions. If we do ever fleet against say the New Order or CIS, we'll be using canon ships such as the Imperious, or the Palleon, or the Dragon Ship. Its much easier on us, on staff, and just in general.

Very well, though I'm more or less working on obtaining the first of a new series of ship, which I call the Vector-class. As the name implies, the lead ship is the former Imperial-class Star Destroyer Vector (found as a derelict after the Blackwing Virus wiped out its crew), and the whole class would essentially be a modernized Imperial-class, with new weapons and equipment and various structural enhancements.

That being said, I'm not sure if it should remain a Star Destroyer, or if it should have most of its heavy weapons removed to turn it into a limited-production fleet carrier, with the intent of getting some use out of old, worn-out Imperial and Imperial II-class vessels.

[member="Darth Shara"] had an idea, how about we set up a sub-faction for fleeting maneuvers using non-cannon ships, for raiding and piracy.
You join faction we give ship, and then let you raid shipping lanes, as well other acts of piracy. Plus it would give us technical air, deny ability.

You mean issuing Letters of Marque to build up a fleet of Privateers? That could be interesting.
That`s what I mean accept, no letter as we will deny everything, till we set out to conquer them.

YES! ALL OF MY YES!

Do you people understand how much more work every little new faction give us? I am lucky to be working in Planet Creation, which is not spammed too often, but starship judges struggle to keep the Starship Creation quite clean.

And true, canon ships are just as wonderful as Factory ones.

The One Sith already have a fleet. Whilst [member="Darth Vulcanus"] has been using his ships for the New Order, we (me as well :D) are One Sith as well; and I'm sure contributing to the New Order, who is expanding and building into old Sith territory on the Outer Rim, can be done for the writers in the One Sith, as can the writers who roleplay for the New Order.

I see the One Sith and New Order two sides of the same coin. One side is causing a hell of a ruckus in the Galactic Center, whilst the other half is growing steadily on the Outer Rim. Let's keep building and working together. :D

Is their any cannon pirate frigates and such?

Surprisingly, yes there are. I just did a search, and found these two:

Privateer-Class Frigate (Tenloss Syndicate): http://starwarsrp.net/topic/23147-privateer-class-frigate/?hl=pirate

Stiletto-Class Privateer's Corvette (Hoersch-Kessel Drive Limited): http://starwarsrp.net/topic/15267-stiletto-class-privateer/?hl=pirate

The former of the two has interdiction capability via its gravity well projectors, but has subpar defensive armament and shielding. We may need a custom modified version to bring it up to military-grade defensive capabilities, otherwise they'll basically only be usable for commercial raiding.

The latter of the two is a fast corvette that can carry three starfighters. Pretty typical kind of vessel for privateering, as the name suggests.

Understood.

I've actually already managed to get somebody interested in serving our faction as either a mercenary or a privateer, so this is a very real possibility (of course he'll need to be provided with a crew and a ship if that's indeed the case).

And [member="Vaelokin"], this is because a Navy and privateers have different objectives. A Navyis built with pitched warfare in mind, for space combat and supporting planetary invasions. The focus here is on firepower, tactical and strategic flexibility, and numbers.

Privateers, on the other hand, are primarily commerce raiders and guerilla fighters, often operating alone or, at most, in small groups (typically pairs). The emphasis for them is on speed, surprise, and most importantly, having a secure corridor for retreat in case a raid takes a turn for the worse.

Working in tandem, these two forces form a powerful combo. Privateer forces would strike at shipping, depleting supplies and disorienting the enemy as they attempt to defend from hit-and-run attacks from multiple fronts, and while they're off balance, the Navy moves in elsewhere to conduct a full-scale strike. This forces the enemy to divide their resources, and because of the two fundamentally opposite styles of operation, measures used to counter one of them will invariably be borderline useless against the other. If they move to defend against the Navy, the Privateers will reek havoc on their supply lines and vulnerable areas on the flanks, while if they engage the Privateers, they will be overwhelmed by the sheer might of the Navy.

The only difficulty is that each one requires specialized ships. While a privateer could theoretically make do with any military-grade Corvette or Frigate, they're most effective with specialized vessels designed specifically for the purpose (I DO have an idea for such a vessel, but I'm not sure who would manufacture it).

Domino would be happy to make the ships using generic ships for us, that way no extra submissions. Also easy to deny who is in charge of them

I understand what you want with the Privateers, I'm just trying to tell you that using Privateers won't really make a difference in anything.

In the short or long run.

The use is literally less than 0.
