How to Write an Oracle of the Sovereignty
A Step-by-Step Guide for Roleplayers
Step 1: Understand What It Means to Be an Oracle
The Oracles are the techno-spiritual overlords of the Sovereignty.
They are not just rulers—they are priests of machine logic, interpreters of divine code, and guardians of cosmic truth. Everything they do is guided by the Pattern Eternal, a sacred vision of structure found within nature, technology, and mathematics.
Core Concepts:
- They do not understand the Force—but they fear what it might represent.
- They wear sealed suits at all times, both for tradition and as a symbol of purity.
- Their power is both spiritual and technological.
- They are not warmongers, but they hold absolute authority.
Step 2: Naming Your Oracle
Oracle names reflect their function, spiritual identity, or philosophy. There are two main naming styles:
1. Hybrid Names (Machine + Mysticism)
Examples: Aetheris-Korr, Solmira-Xar, Virel-Seraph, Omicron-Fade
These are great for players who want a mystic-techno feel. Think of it like combining a piece of sacred technology with a divine concept.
2. Abstract Titles
Examples: Voice of the Pattern, Harbinger of the Sacred Flow, Warden of Echoes, Seer of the Infinite Circuit
These names function more like religious titles and are perfect for high-ranking or particularly zealous Oracles.
Tip: You can combine both!
Oracle Name Example: Kalyth-Vox, Seer of the Conduit Eternal
Step 3: Choose the Right Art Style
Oracles resemble Quarians from Mass Effect in silhouette.
Art Style Suggestions for Avatars:
- Search terms: quarian female/male, masked oracle, alien mystic, techno-monk, ritual engineer
- Avoid showing skin or faces—Oracles are always veiled by a darkened glass visor.
- If you need something safe and easy, just find a Quarian from Mass Effect.
Step 4: Define Your Oracle's Role
Oracles are varied in function. Your character might be:
- A Seer interpreting visions and guiding strategy
- A Technotheurge (Oracle-engineer) maintaining sacred systems and relics
- A Warden overseeing Warborn deployments
- A Ritualist who oversees Unshapen experiments
- Or the Vox—the mouthpiece of the High Oracle, a player-facing leader
Step 5: Character Hooks & Arcs
- Will your Oracle question the Pattern after witnessing the Force?
- Will they remain loyal to the doctrine and resist this galaxy's chaos?
- Will they hide forbidden knowledge?
- Will they form a bond with a Warborn or even an Unshapen?
- Will they see the Force as divine—or as corruption?
