Solo threads

I never knew solo threads were a thing here until now. Learn something new everyday.

When I have nothing else to do it can be fun to just finish an entire thread in a day with a personal story. I think I may do a few.

When training for a specific Force skill, acquiring a specific item, or just general training, I suppose they're quite useful when there isn't much interest from anyone else to join in, or you want something done quickly.

What are all of your thoughts on solo threads? Do you write them much yourself? Would you recommend others doing them? Are they a good way of training, character development and acquiring items, or are they an easy cop-out?

[member="Wolf"], Some say its an easy cop-out as you say, but I find them really good.

Sure, you can throw them out in a day, and be fine, but I find it a little difficult to do that with how much time I have.
Its also more difficult because you can't rift off of people. Everything you do, is done by you. All the story, all the writing. Everything is you. And it needs to be believable.

I like doing them for gear items if its a little difficult to explain how I could get someone to help me, but otherwise, I find it fun, and enjoyable. It just depends on the person really.

Hey [member="Wolf"]!

I don't generally do them, mostly because I get the most enjoyment out of writing with another person, so I lose interest in reading my own writing.

That being said, don't let anyone discourage you about writing your own threads if it's something you'd like to do. On the other hand never feel ashamed to ask for RP either!

I have a running solo thread that I use for development on items and projects. It makes the most sense in the case of this character who is an Alchemist that creates things typically within his own workshop without the help of others. However not all his pieces and projects are solo-work, but for the ones that are I find it fun to simply sit down and write.

I did one with this guy a few months back relating to when he fled the One Sith and went into exile. It was a short and sweet to the point explanation of why he was doing so.

Of course that doesn't count a few non solo threads that became solo because nobody showed up to them. :p

This is the answer I'd point to for all of your questions. If you find enjoyment in doing solo threads, then by all means - do them and do what you find fun.

I can't answer this for anyone but myself, but in regards to my own writing (because I needlessly involve and entangle myself with other characters on purpose) doing anything alone is, to me, an easy way to cop-out of a responsibility to respond to someone else (not that anyone will tell you I'm amazing at speedy replies, because I'm not). I've done a few solo threads, of which I think I've finished one. I guess, to me, it's not fun because I'm only here to role-play in order to collaborate with other writers. Writing alone, to me, could be done in a text document and it'd be just as fun. That is to say, not at all.

But you find enjoyment in it, so I'll wholeheartedly suggest you engage yourself in them when you feel the necessity. Whereas I enjoy one-on-one private threads and large public threads, some like solo threads and others like to only do private threads.

[member="Lily Kuhn"], I like how you say that, yet with many of the Dev threads that people do, there are a lot that are solo threads.

So I ask as a Former judge, Do you think some judges, *doesn't have to be you* look down upon, or look highly upon solo threads that are completed, AND done in a believable fashion?

No. I'm saying that for me - as in when I'm the one doing it - I'm copping out of having the responsibility to respond to someone else who might expect replies from me. It's an easy way for me to say "I can do it later"... and then never finish the thread. That's specifically why I stated that I've only ever finished one.

Thanks for answering that.

I understand. Past few times I have tried to do Solo threads, I forget about it, or I get busy with something else, that I just don't get around to finishing them. With the past few within the week that I have done I have completed for various reasons, and because my muse is bursting right now.

Honestly, I think its best to do a Solo thread by just pumping out as much of it as you can at first, then gradually add upon it as needed.

But to answer your question, it doesn't matter if it's a solo thread or not. It's the content in the thread that we look at, and if it's amazing then it's amazing. It could be a solo thread or a group or even invasion thread.
