    MANIFEST DESTINY

    iu
When most think about the beginnings of a Jedi, one may imagine a “chosen one” arising from humble beginnings, or an orphan with such strong attunement to the force that they were found near the exact moment of emerging from the womb. While Sol’yan could not claim to be some ‘chosen one’ or prodigy to be found early on and cultivated, his beginning was not so dissimilar from many others within the Order. Born to a tribal shaman, Sol’yan was regarded - or more accurately expected to assume his father’s mantle upon his coming of age. For the comparative few years he was raised within Feeorin society, he was raised with that destiny in mind. When his affinity for the ways of the force started to rise to the surface, it was merely viewed as a boon for his intended destiny, rather than a burden to be turned over to the Jedi. That made the first contact made by the Jedi much more confrontational than it should have been. One Jedi Master in particular, an imposing Kiffar male named “Tor'garadan Voss”, was the first to notice the young Sol’yan’s attunement with the force at the age of 8 - a mere babe in the eyes of the long lived Feeorin.

Tor'garadan’s request was met with a mixture of incredulity and thinly contained rage at the very idea of separating such a young child from his mother’s breast. Despite the Jedi being universally known as guardians of peace and balance in the galaxy, the Feeorin were and still are regarded as a war-like and insular people. Families reign supreme, with children viewing their fathers with an air of reverence. While it was not unheard of for a Feeorin to join the Jedi’s ranks (such as the well known Jedi Master Feln), they were rare for a reason: said reason being the tempers of their fathers, and the fury of their mothers. This supposedly implacable obstacle would soon be removed, with events soon to transpire being crucial to the actual destiny of this seemingly inconsequential child. As previously mentioned, while the Feeorin were indeed a warlike and formidable people, they were not immune from the dangers of the galaxy - particularly those which lurk in the sector Odryn resided within. One fateful morning, in the waning hours leading up to the normal time in which the men of his village would awaken to tend to their livestock and begin their day, an attack came seemingly from nowhere.

Sol’yan’s earliest memories of that day were that of his mother grasping him up in her arms, with strange lizard-like raiders pouring out from ships hovering over their village. Sounds of blaster fire, screams, the scent of flesh burning. He remembered falling from his mother’s grasp, only to look back into her cold and lifeless eyes, smoke rising from her back with the same sickening stench of burning skin. Then a bright sword of light, shimmering a brilliant purple in the dim light of dawn, danced about as if held by a drummer from his village being swept up in the beat of his making. But instead of a drummer, the sword was held by the same master who came to see him, desperately fighting in the defense of his village. He closed his eyes and clung to his mother’s arms, only for them to fall limply behind his back...

It was so long ago, so long in fact that the day in question would meld with the following days. His father would also die in the fighting, along with nearly half of the Feeorin village. Sol’yan would later learn that this was much larger than a simple raid - this attack was one keen on seeing all of his people taken as slaves. Had it not been for Master Tor'garadan only just leaving the village the night prior to the attack, Sol’yan would later comment of his certainty that he would be a slave now, likely fighting within the gladiatorial pits of Zygerria. In the aftermath of the battle, the remaining village elders, along with what kin he had left, agreed to remand Sol’yan into Master Tor'garadan’s care. The next few decades would shape Sol’yan irrevocably, and in some ways make the events surrounding his parent’s death seem to be but an inconvenient memory.

    FIRST STEPS

    iu
As Sol’yan grew into adolescence, the bond between himself and Tor’garadon would grow ever stronger; much like any master-apprentice relationship. In many ways, the two were the same in temperament and background. Both came from clan-based cultures, and both lost their parents in death at a young age. Tor’garadon was renowned as a peerless duelist, boasting a strong frame and a dancer’s grace. This mastery would foster admiration in Sol’yan for his master as his genetic predisposition for martial prowess would grow to the fore. They would train with practice weapons every morning and every evening, with meditations and lessons about the living force filling the day. Sol’yan would eventually regard his master as the father he never truly had. Even today, Sol’yan could still recall the tears in his master’s eyes on the day he ascended to the rank of Jedi Knight.

Even after his ascension, Sol’yan and his master were nigh inseparable, taking on many well known missions on behalf of the Order and the Galaxy at large, such as the Onderonian Succession Crisis, the Mon Calamaran Schism, and a particularly troublesome series of civil disruptions linked to a conspiracy by the Nightsisters of Dathomir. The decades in which these events unfolded would be considered among the happiest in Sol’yan’s life, even though there were many instances where his livelihood hung in the balance. While much of this fondness could be due to his experiences learning at the feet of his master, it would be foolish to ignore a life event that shapes the memory of many a young man - the first time they fall in love.

This fateful event would occur during a mission undertaken alongside his master, when Sol’yan was nearing 40 standard years. While he had lived and seen much during those years, he was still considered young by Feeorin standards. Thankfully, his life under the tutelage of his master - being taught and raised as a Jedi - did much to curb his natural ferocity and impulsiveness. His upbringing would be sorely challenged, as he met his first Feeorin female; a former slave named K’hora. They would first meet each other on the streets of Nar Shaddaa, where both Sol’yan and Tor’garadan sought to secure clandestine transport from there to the Expansion Region to track down a reported dark side cult. It was during this search for said transport that they happened across K’hora, who established herself as a pilot willing to transport both he and his master to their destination.

What started as a one-way ferry, soon grew into a series of events which led to K’hora lending her services to the duo far longer than one might expect. It had not occurred to Sol’yan until later, that this was likely due to a certain level of attraction felt by K’hora toward him, but she would never admit it. Over time, Sol’yan would become smitten with her, and the two would grow ever closer during this time to the point of expressing their feelings for each other in a more direct fashion. While the Order at that time did not forbid physical or emotional attachments, Tor’garadan expressed his concerns over what appeared to be Sol’yan’s increasingly clouded judgement while he was around her. At first, Sol’yan merely dismissed his master’s cautionary advice as him merely being protective, but the further their relationship progressed, the more uneasy he could feel his master becoming. Eventually, that unease turned into mild hostility, which was unlike his master, who had always been the model of carefully controlled emotion. It was not until they landed on the planet of Brevost, supposedly the last known sighting of this mysterious cult, that the truth finally emerged. While searching through a series of ancient ruins rumored to have ties to the cult, Sol’yan could hear the signs of battle from within the ruins. Searching frantically, he rushed to find the source of the disturbance, hearing lightsabers clashing and screams of pain echoing through an apparent maze comprising a greater series of ruins. He finally found the source of the disturbances, only to be moments too late as he observed a red lightsaber within K’hora’s clutches, plunged deep within his master’s torso.

The battle that followed proved to tax Sol’yan in ways deeper than the death of his master normally would. The woman he allowed himself to fall in love with proved to be a Dark Jedi this whole time, and he was too blind to sense what was right before him - too enamored in her beauty, and his desire for her to discern the truth. His master saw it; his master tried to warn him that something - even though Tor’garadan himself couldn’t quite place what it was - was wrong with her. His primal nature; feral anger and ferocity as hot as a sun brimmed on the edge of his mind, threatening to overwhelm his senses. K’hora sought to bring his emotions to the fore - to make his turn to her side complete. But what kept him focused was not the years of training that he endured, nor the tenants of the Jedi Code, but the still form of his master - his eyes wide as her betrayal became manifest. Their lightsaber blades locked moments later, red light mingled with green, the heat of their exchanges causing beads of sweat to stream over their powerful forms. Both of them seemed to pass through time, with minutes rolling into hours, and hours passing into evening and morning. Her form was nearly perfect, and it took every shred of Sol’yan’s mental and physical training to match her blow for blow, until finally she disarmed him - his saber cast aside in a ruined heap. He sank to his knees, his muscles ready to fall to the ground in exhaustion. It was only then that he saw his opportunity. Her guard had fallen, ready to land the killing blow against her one-time lover.

He reached out with his last bit of strength, pulling his master’s weapon to his hands and activating it as soon as it reached his hands. The purple beam of energy pierced her heart as her breath caught in her throat. Her weapon dropped to the ground as her body fell into his arms, haggard breaths strained out from her mouth as her hand reached up to touch his face. Hot tears streamed down his cheeks as he kissed her one final time...

    EXILE

    iu
After considering the facts behind what happened on Brevost, the Jedi Council judged Sol’yan worthy to ascend to the rank of Master. Despite this, Sol’yan found it difficult to avoid feeling unworthy of such a milestone. In his mind, he was the one responsible for the death of his master; he was the one who not only failed to sense the darkness within K’hora, but to fall in love with her. Despite his insistence to reject the role, the council deemed him worthy. As if to punish himself, Sol’yan set upon a path of self exile from the order. For the next century, few ever heard from Sol’yan within the Order save for rare communiques, and even rarer visits to the temple. Over time, his reputation became that of mere legend - one of many Jedi of a near-bygone time, with a few acts of notoriety to be remembered.

    iu
Despite his absence, Sol’yan was not idle. Legends arose throughout a series of planets in the outer rim, of a blue-skinned hooded hermit with a friendly disposition, always there to help the common people during the time of need most dire, whether it be defending defenseless villages from raiders, returning lost children from deep within the wilds back to their villages, and defeating great beasts of legend. During this time, Sol’yan also went on an internal quest to center himself - to learn more about the nuances of the living force, and to find some way to redeem himself for his master’s death, whether internally or otherwise.

This self-imposed exile came to an end shortly after the arrival of the Bryn’adul, with Sol’yan believing that the threat it presented transcended a mere interpretation of ‘good’ or ‘evil’, but rather epitomized the very nature of evil itself. It served as an evil worthy enough to pave the final stones along his path of redemption. The aged Jedi, carrying himself with the composure and grace of someone with the wisdom acquired through many years, joined the branch of the Jedi Order comprising the ‘Silver Jedi Concord’. Sol’yan at this point in his life is far more centered rather than the brash and eager young one, easily goaded into a fight; instead, he is focused on his connection with the force, and in maintaining balance not only within the galaxy, but within himself.

For a Feeorin, Sol’yan is considered ‘above average’ in both height and stature. Per Feeorin physiology, the older one becomes, the stronger they also become. All of this lends itself to a very powerful physical specimen - a cut above your average soldier or Jedi save for those of the Wookiee or equivalent variety.

His skin has a light blue hue, reminiscent of a crystal clear sky on Dantooine. Although his age is easily apparent by the manner in which he carries himself, his skin is strong and youthful in appearance, easily considered to be in the ‘prime’ of his life.

He has yellow eyes, and usually styles his head tendrils in a loose pony tail behind his head, or loosely over each shoulder.

  • STRENGTHS i & i WEAKNESSES

+Student of the Living Force - Although a member of the Silver Jedi Accord, Sol’yan is slightly closer to ‘center’ compared to his compatriots. While he believes practitioners of the Dark Side are lost, and slaves to their emotions, Sol’yan believes that it is equally foolish to ignore one’s emotions, and that the only true way to control them is to recognize & manage them, rather than denying their existence.
+Expert Bladesman - Given his tutelage under Master Tor’garadan, as well as his natural affinity for combat, Sol’yan has honed his body into a master-crafted tool to defend the truly helpless and innocent.
+Wise - Life has not been kind to Sol’yan, and because of that, he has an outlook on life and the force in general that few hold.
+Introspective - Given his near-century long exile, Sol’yan has had more than enough practice at analyzing his emotions and thought processes.

-Guilt - While he has come along way, the guilt concerning the circumstances of his ancient master’s death still weighs upon his soul.
-Internal Struggles - Feeorin are naturally (and stereotypically) ill-tempered and easily angered. Sol’yan’s training has done much to mitigate this, but doing so is always a constant struggle.

  • A B I L I T I E S
    • Sol’yan has spent nearly a century centering himself within the force. While he is by no means the most powerful force user to grace the galaxy, he has a very powerful connection to the force. Pushing/pulling, lifting or throwing average sized objects are as easy as if done by hand; enhancing his own physical attributes and abilities, creating force barriers, mind tricks, and absorbing energy such as force lightning are also well within his wheelhouse.
    • Sol’yan is a master with the lightsaber. While he has a working knowledge of all forms, he’s highly proficient in the following: Djem So, Soresu, Ataru, Shi-Cho
    • Sol’yan is very adept at handling complicated and nuanced situations without quickly resorting to violence.
    • Given his long isolation, Sol’yan is quite capable of living off of the land.
    • Sol’yan is an adequate pilot.
