History
Like so many others on Montitia, Sonya Provost was born into a life of struggle and poverty. The planet has suffered a long history of exploitation, trapped in an endless cycle that has prevented its people from achieving their fullest potential. Sonya's father was a small-time lawyer with a habit of taking on lost causes, but who nonetheless inspired her to fight for the preservation of justice in an unjust society. When her father's efforts made him a target of very unhappy corporatists, he was soon found dead from mysterious causes. A warning to others, but to Sonya, it was a martyrdom.
Galvanized by her father's murder, Sonya played the long con as a desk jockey. For years she slaved away, rising up the corporate ladder and learning whatever trade secrets she could collect. Though her fullest ambitions were stonewalled by the institution's bureaucratic culture, their complacency ultimately gave her enough ammunition to expose corporate misdeeds that spanned back decades. The company was forced to make reparations, and thereafter banned from operating on Montitia.
Now having earned a reputation planetwide as a whistleblower, Sonya transitioned into a career of political activism. Her popularity with the working class propelled her into a bid for Montitia's senatorial seat, which she won in a dangerously close race. Sonya's wave of public support was enough to counter the machinations of her corporate opponents, but it was only the first of many battles to come. The overwhelming majority of Montitians still live under crushing destitution, as do many others in the Alliance. If Senator Provost has anything to say about it, their voices will be heard.
