Faction Sore as Soresu (RTL, JAN, PRAX)

TRIBUNAL STATION
Pyeth Raffinki Pyeth Raffinki

Veino had arranged another class, not on Susefvi this time, but on Tribunal Station, to work along with Cotan Sar'andor Cotan Sar'andor and the Rift Pact, tightening relations between their various organizations. It was part of the League's protocol. Rebuild old relationships. Develop friendships.

He rolled up the sleeves of his shirt and rolled his shoulders, giving his neck a roll as well. Hopefully Cotan would join to help demonstrate.

Soresu was a challenging lightsaber style. It needed practical demonstrations. While he could run drills and katas, it was more about the philosophy of movement. Efficiency. Subtlety.

Defense was every bit as challenging as offence, and in many cases, more difficult. Soresu, by nature, surrendered the initiative in a fight, reacting and letting the opponents dictate the initial flow of combat. It was why he blended it with Djem So, to catch opponents off guard.

A series of training droids were prepared- both with stun blasters and practice sabers. In the Rim, they needed to be prepared to fight against anything. Sith cultists. Dark Jedi. Maw raiders. Thugs with disruptors.

Veino walked to the center of a circle marked out on the floor, turning slowly. "Let the class begin."

Pyeth was apprehensive, he never visited Tribunal Station before, he rarely travelled alone, and this Veino Garn Veino Garn character? He never heard of him. Normally, he might have fallen back on Tiland Kortun Tiland Kortun or Rishii and the sense of familiarity, but his Master was elsewhere in the Galaxy. Training his other students, or on a mission he did not know. As for Rishii, he promised to make peace with it and move on.

All he really knew was that Veino was offering a practical demonstration of Soresu and that was a opportunity he couldn't afford to ignore.

Their encounter with the Knights of Ren cult, proved as much. He never wanted to feel so helpless again, unable to defend himself, others, or his Master and he hoped the instruction of Veino and other Masters might help him with that. Much the same way he been learning Trispzest from Nadira Banu.

Taking his position within the group of his peers he stood out like a sore thumb. Hardly surprising, the only other Rishii he ever met exploring the Galaxy was Yo'tek.

His immediate impression of Veino was someone a far cry away from his Master. He carried an aura of authority and seriousness that made him feel uncomfortable, but also excited that only grew as he approached the ring. He wasn't so confident they would get along however, Pyeth wasn't always the best at following strict routine.

"You don't think he is too strict a teacher, do you?" He whispered to the others, hoping he might have misunderstood the body language.

"For those who don't know me, I am Veino Garn. Saaraai-Kaar of the Jensaarai. Officially, I died on Coruscant when the Sith shattered the original Alliance. Officially, the Jensaarai do not exist. For those who know little about the Jensaarai, we are not Jedi, but I expect every one to act with the integrity the Jedi are expected to uphold. Nor are we Sith, but I expect every one of my students to fight with their intensity."

He crossed his arms and studied the gathering of students before activating his lightsaber. It shone silver and hummed quietly.

"Soresu is one of the traditional forms of lightsaber combat, developed by the Jedi centuries ago. I am assuming you all have at least a basic conception of Forms Zero and Forms One. Form Zero is the most important for Soresu, because, at its heart, Soresu is a form of defense. To embrace Soresu is to embrace the role of protector, not just for yourself, but for everyone around you."

Veino tapped a button and the droids moved into position around the circle, then rotated to face inwards towards him. "Soresu is a responsibility. A promise. Any one of you, with adequate skill in Soresu, can protect countless other beings."

He raised his lightsaber into the initial opening stance, at shoulder-height and pointing forward. "Who can make an assessment of when you would want to use Soresu?"

Cintero stood waitin for Veino Garn Veino Garn . He'd already met him before, he had been a teacher of Force Stealth for Cintero. And offered an alternative in the method involved, which greatly helped him. That side of the force was always his weakness. And he helped adapt it for him so that he could use it closer to something Cin was already more familiar with.

Now, they were in something he was much better at. Certain he had much to learn. But lightsaber combat was probably the only thing that he had yet to struggle with. He did his best to avoid pride however. A master of saber combat would mean nothing if they could simply be force pushed through a wall until they were left unconscious. On the reverse end, a truly skilled fighter might be able to keep up with a more powerful opponent in the force.

And of course, there was the matter of blasters. Those were everywhere, and increasing in skill on how to deal with them was absolutely vital if he expected to have any kind of long life span. Another was present, of an avian species. Not a lot of those wandering around. That he knew of anyway. Cintero smiled at Pyeth's question, shaking his head, "Didn't seem like it last time." he commented. Course...he had already been with the Jen'sarai, and was dedicated to his training. So perhaps his judgement wasn't the best.

Veino introduced himself, as well as the Jen'sarai themselves to some degree. Ah yes, secrecy, that was something they were meant to use. He wasn't the strongest fan of it, but he followed it if he was able. Form zero he was perfectly happy with, while fighting was his bread and butter, it was entirely clear to him that it was better not to engage in violence at all when possible. Whether by negotiations or more aggressive methods such as threats, where needed. He watched carefully as Veino explained, and then came the question.

He glanced at Pyeth, wandering if he should give a chance for someone else to answer, but decided it best to go ahead.
"Preferably never, as you shouldn't want to be put into using your saber, if possible. But if pressed, I think any situation where there isn't urgency it is applicable. But especially when on the defensive tactically, such as defending a allies from a squad, and in particular of blaster users."

In spite of his statement, he was actually very ready to pull his saber out in case Veino wanted to test their skills suddenly. Of course he only expected stuns, but that didn't mean there was no reason to be prepared. Though, the armor might make that nearly moot. He was eager to make his own, but his current set was quite effective.

For his part, Cotan stood in the back of the training room, watching Veino call all the droids in to surround him.

Let the old man call me in when he needs me seemed to be Cotan's current philosophy. That, and observe how Veino approached the training. No doubt it would be different from his own more...direct methods.

Of course, he also wanted to make sure none of his training droids got too damaged.

"Excellent observation, Cintero," Veino said, letting the lightsaber drop down beside him, pacing back and forth among the circle. "There are numerous reasons. For Jedi, violence is their last resort. Likewise, for Jensaarai, open conflict is never our primary solution. Not because of pacifism, but because of pragmatism. Secrecy is our primary and initial defense. If we draw blades, it means we have been forced into the open."

He paused and moved to one of the training droids. "Exactly. Soresu is indeed defensive, especially against multiple opponents, both against blades and blasters." He felt a familiar presence and grinned. "Meet Cotan Sar'andor. He owns this station and is an exceptionally skilled combatant when it comes to blades. Likely one of the best in the Outer Rim. He will be helping me with this."

Veino returned to the center of the dueling circle, letting his eyes scan the training droids. He tapped a button on a databad and the droids separated into two different lines, one for blades and one for blasters.

"Cotan, what do you think the primary philosophy of Soresu is? And can you demonstrate it?"

In knowing that Pyeth nodded affirmatively, this was exactly what he hoped to learn. Mentions of Form Zero and One focused his memories on the Obsidian Knights, and his training with the Lotus.

At mention of another, Pyeth turned to look at Cotan Sar'andor Cotan Sar'andor . Another new face, today it seemed might be as much about networking as training.

Cotan looked as many humans did to Pyeth, beige and not particularly intricate in their choice of dress. And yet, his wealth couldn't quite be disputed if what Veino said was true.

Glancing back to the fellow who answered his question Pyeth replied, "Ah thank you for the insight, is he your master?" He asked, trying his best to seem friendly. That meant keeping the talons away, and beak at a safe distance.

Meanwhile, he began to wonder what else exactly did Cotan claim ownership over. The Droids, were they also his?

Veino continued in explanation confirming that it was preferable, Jedi or Jensaarai, not to be forced to use their lightsabers. He also introduced Cotan Sar'andor, as well as asking him to demonstrate the primary philosophy of Soresu. He turned slightly at Pyeth's further question and shook his head while shrugging, "Just took lessons from him recently on more force related matters. I tend to struggle but he was very helpful." he was perfectly happy to converse, though he also tried to avoid stretching it out too much so he could keep paying attention.

Posts may be small. Sick, so rather slow and tired. Sorry.

After Cotan would explain and demonstrate, Veino would move on, taking a position at the edge of the circle, clicking an activation button on one of the melee training droids.

"Efficiency will be what dictates the outcome of defense, whether it succeeds or not," Veino adjusted his stance, holding the lightsaber blade in front of him, with one hand held ahead.

The training droid jerked to life and raised a training blade of its own in a more aggressive stance. "In a duel against a single combatant, a strong defense can keep you in control of pace of the fight."

The droid made a large overhead slash in slow motion with a forward step. Veino stepped forward, adjusting his wrist and his blade redirected the droid's to one side. "Consider the amount of energy the droid is using. Pair up. Take turns alternating this parry with and the attack, slowly."

The droid deactivated and returned to its position. "Soresu emphasizes the efficiency of movement because it is what will let us, later on, protect against multiple attacks. Go ahead and start your practice."

Veino turned towards the students to watch their practice.
