..:: Special Features ::..
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Optical Range Finder - The droids upper photoreceptor acts as an optical range finder, sending out an infrared beam of light to mark targets. Multiple droids can utilize their range finders at the same time to ensure that all volleys of fire strike the same target, or within a meter of the indented target.

Hydrolic Lift System - Each unit is constructed with a special hydrolic lift system that can raise and lower the droid as needed. These often come into use to aid in lifting its primary weapon over an obstruction; subsequently it can be used to lower the droid behind cover and keep it hidden and out of the line of fire.

Fire-Link Operating System - Each unit possess a special fire-link operating system. This system permits multiple units to link and share the information gathered from their Optical Range Finders; which in turn ensures that all units are capable of firing a concentrated volley at the same time on their target.

..:: Strengths ::..
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • All-Terrain: The combination of the unit's hydrolic system and wide (though narrow) pads ensure that the droid is capable of traversing most terrains. Though it still appears to have difficulty in sandy environments or muddy terrain.

  • Optical Range Finder: The unit's primary strength is in its optical range finder. While alone this permits a single unit to land fire on or near its target; when multiple droids utilize their range finder and share information between them, they're capable of unleashing devastating fire.

..:: Weaknesses ::..
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Hydrolic Lift System: While an asset to the unit, any damage caused to this system can greatly hinder a unit or otherwise render it incapable of continue its primary orders. Concentrated fire upon the various points of this system along the limbs of the droid can potentially cause the droid to lose its footing or otherwise drop or rise with no control. This can create a problem, in either the unit is no longer capable of firing upon a target or becomes incapable of moving behind cover to defend itself.

  • Optical Range Finder: While used to aid in the unit's firing system, it is also vulnerable to enemy fire. When not in use, a three-meter thick Alusteel plate rests over the sensitive photoreceptor. A lucky shot can potential disable or otherwise destroy this system, hindering the accuracy and capability of the unit's primary weapon.

..:: Description ::..
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the introduction of the Sorenn-Syrush DX-HRD unit, it was always planned that those units would be supported by additional droid units and thus Sorenn-Syrush Industries introduces that companion.

The Self-Propelled Artillery Droid Mark I; or SPAD-MKI is a unit intended to serve as a mobile artillery unit to supplement the DX-HRD's own military capabilities. However the units can also operate independently or within other units not including the DX-HRD. It's primary function is to provide fire support, with multiple units capable of linking their firing systems and optical range finders together to ensure increased accuracy of volley fire upon a targeted area.

While initially installed with a Light Turbolaser Cannon, this weapon is capable of being switched out for other such weaponry (ie. Ion Cannons, Blaster Cannons, Missile Launchers, etc etc). This means that a military unit can maintain multiple SPAD units, each with a separate load out and capabilities than one another, thus providing a more robust support options.

However these units are not without their flaws. For instance, its hydrolic system that permits the unit to rise and lower itself needed is left vulnerable, the various pistons and systems too large to be covered in armor (and if they were, the heat from the system would potentially cause it to seize up and fail). Thus if this system were to be damaged in any significant way, it would leave the unit vulnerable to additional attacks. Likewise its primary strength, its Optical Range Finder, can also be disabled to compromise its firing capabilities. When its not in use, it is protected from fire and the elements by a three meter thick Alusteel Plate.

Additional uses for the unit vary from those military units it is assigned. In some instances they were also used to carry additional equipment needed for the success of a military unit's mission or their primary charge.
