Spencer Jacobs

Threw her maiden name up, since I just recently did the last name change >_> (after 20 years of IC marriage). Haha! But yeah Spencer was my first character and she's been through a lot now that I really think about it. Curious to see what people think and have thought about her and her little journey.

I am glad she did what she did when Ashin died, I've seen too many people give weak reactions to that kind of thing, and even more who didn't seem to care.

She's more real than the average character in that regard.

[member="Spencer Varanin"] - I've not read a ton of the more 'personal' threads, so I don't know the character half as well as I'd like to(at some point we do need to write together). But I've always been struck by a very humanistic approach in your writing. That suffuses across all your faces, but I think it is personified in Spencer (At least to me), and driven home particularly strongly in the Lujo invasion thread and your blog post with Ashin leaving. I felt genuine heart-string tugging at reading Lujo, and that is hard for me to feel with my job.

For critiques, she sometimes seems like a walking plot device with the amount of power she is described as having, but then again it is an old, old character(relatively speaking, I would never call Spencer old) with a *ton* of development and changes (from what I can tell), and in the end your 'power' is in a field that (like some of my guys) is often quickly overlooked or hand-woven away as inconvenient. Or even outright ignored. And you don't typically throw it around too much, if at all really. So even with a power that can be apparently unheard of on a galactic scale, you wield it responsibly enough that I find myself more curious how she got to that point than irritated that someone is at that level. For Spencer, the power level is less a defining feature, at more a supporting detail. Which is how it should be.

Long story short? I'd love to read a few threads you feel personify Spencer, across the ages. And when I get back to IC interaction and such here, I need to grab you for an RP.

[member="Ermac Laith"] Da creepy pets :p We should Seriously RP tho

[member="Ijaat Akun"] Thank you! Its always good to see the perspective of other writers about your own. I appreciate everything you've said. Yes we do need to write :)

[member="Braith Achlys"] It took me a few days to write that reaction, mostly because I was going through the past threads with Ashin/Spencer. That's roughly 25 IC years with someone that basically helped mold and define you. Ashin met Spencer in a time she was lost and basically gave her a reason to be something more than just a padawan healer in the Temples. That sort of gift to give someone is something that they will never forget. Then to lose the one person who is forever in your corner. You realize you're alone. There was a lot of emotion and I'm happy and I hope I gave it justice.

You know how I feel about mum. I find Spencer very adorable at times, motherly (Mira and the Netherworld Crisis), a very well written and rounded out character. She was always there for Aaralyn when she needed her, so I found her to be a great friend. Loyal and honest. I mean, so many things can honestly be said about her since I've known the character. I enjoy her lots. :)

I've always enjoyed reading when you write Spencer. I admit, as [member="Ijaat Mereel"] said, that you put genuine emotion into your posts. I try to do the same. It's not easy to do. Spencer has always had a very distinct personality. And a quirky one. I really enjoy that. She can be serious when she needs to be, but I can tell that you really enjoy writing her. You have given her all these lovely little quirks. I would love to finish our Echoy'la duel - even if just because. it's really fun to interact with Spencer, and I love how she interacts with people in unexpected ways :)

I'll start this out by saying your an excellent writer, especially when it comes to writing Spencer and conveying her emotions. I agree with [member="Braith Achlys"] in how you had her react to the death of Ashin Varanin, thats a pretty traumatic thing to witness for someone so close to her, and you conveyed that in a great way, it'll really forge the path for more character development.
