Split Faction threads Public/Private - double the open RP options

Glance at the Public RP forum and Faction threads often outnumber Public threads (and other open-to-everyone types, like Skirmishes) by a lot. I see a lot of new members really wanting open RP options, and I'm right there with them. So here's what I propose.

Make the Faction thread label available in Private RP. Redefine Faction threads in Public RP as open to anyone.

That way, if a faction wants the thread open to just their members and maybe invitees, they can do it just fine in Private. And if they want their faction to interact with the community for any number of reasons, they run their Faction/Open threads in Public.

I think it's an easy way to make more public RP options in the Public RP forum. It's been ages since I was an Admin, but I seem to recall changing thread label options was pretty straightforward. Then it would probably just be a matter of tweaking the label definitions post and making an announcement or two.

Thoughts?

EDIT: Oh, and this might make it easier for Staff to evaluate Major Faction activity. I know digging through Private threads was always a pain when I was doing the evals.

Doesn't change the fact that people still do [PM to Join]/[Invite Only] with Public threads anyway.

There are three levels of privacy on the open roleplay board and I think it's okay the way they are:

Public - Open to anyone
PM for Invite - Allows the thread-started to scan and permit others to join.
Faction/Dominion - Open to anyone in a said faction, faction staff perhaps permitting outsiders to join.

Forcing faction-only threads to mingle with the countless private threads is not a wise solution given how easily buried they can be, as well as comparing the many writers of a faction to the few writers in a private thread.

It's a valid concern, but I don't think your average Faction thread will get buried in the Private forum, because you're right: the number of writers is typically much higher in a Faction thread than in a Private thread.

And let's be honest, major factions won't have an issue with this kind of change as they usually have a higher number of writers as Jorus pointed out.

That's a yes let's do this and why didn't we do this sooner!

This also will help new members to interact a little more easily with those public faction threads, and vice versa makes it easier for major factions to recruit.

I don't see too much of a problem with this idea. The Open Forums are very top heavy with all sorts of labels for threads as it is, so it would even things out a bit.

Both forums are highly active, so threads getting pushed down is a thing no matter where they are placed. As most of us are aware 'following' a big thread (especially invasions) not a good idea so with labels in the Private forum will make your thread more visible.

A fair suggestion. Since many factions do this anyway it will make our lives easier. It'll also make less clutter in the public forum.

I will consult with staff and ensure there's issues they can see, but I don't see why this can't be done.

Does this mean that faction threads are now considered public if placed in the public roleplay forum, regardless of the faction tag?

Personally I'm not sure I see the benefit of staggering the locations as "faction" prefix already implied limited to the faction or approved members. With this change, it seems to undefine the "faction" prefix and rather dictate that it is a public or private thread with a "faction focus" based on where the thread resides.

I'm in favor of this suggestion.

It gives Faction options on whether they want to add an element of variability to their faction threads, perhaps for wider stories that may do well with a bit of surprise visits from outside of their typical member-base.

If a faction isn't open to this, they do their faction threads in the Private RP section.

What's not to like, more variety for factions without privacy being removed from us.

Edit: I am of-course, late to the party but wanted to show my support lol. I might be able to use this with a coming skirmish that's been suggested to me xD
