"SPOILERS!" but not really. Pretty minor and non-revealing...Discussion of star ships. Mainly, the M

For all of those who have seen the new movie, "Star Wars: Episode 7 The Force Awakens" and for those who have seen it twice, like me, you may have noticed that the "ol' hunk of junk"/Millennium Falcon goes through quite a lot of wear and tear and survives throughout the movie. Whether it's power sliding on the sands of Jakku or crashing through a forest of trees, it seems that freighters are able to withstand quite a beating without obvious adverse effects.

This kind of changes how I view the durability of star ships in general. Can I get some feedback about how we should view and keep tabs on vehicle damage? Does anyone have a rough mental chart that they'd like to type down below on how much damage a certain type of hazard should do to certain types of vehicles?

If a modern tank can ram down trees and crash into rocks without significant effect, it doesn't surprise me a starship can hold up equally well. I never thought freighters were so weak that ramming down some trees did damage.

Two main factors here. First, Shielding. Keep in mind that the shielding on these ships are meant to hold up against rockets and other high velocity and very much so severe impact weapons. As such, the damage it could sustain from relatively small problems like such as slaming through trees woul be minimal. A second point is as [member="Julian Solo"] mentioned. A modern tank is a marvel of durability and engineering, now multiply that to the level of a space faring civilization that produced ships (Corellia) for close to... 25000 years at the point of Episode Seven? Im willing to bet they know quite a few things or two about how to create a strong ship.

Third, Plot armor and action scene magic.... come on :D

A great example of the fragility of something of smaller size than the falcon, is the ship she considers first, it was a helljumper if i remember right, oooor Plo's fighter at the beginning. Both took hits once from different weapons, and due to a well placed shot, were going no where.

So, what is, in your opinions, the worst amount of damage that a freighter can sustain from the environment before obvious damage and depreciation takes place?
