Rex brought Song-steel off of Ra in an attempt to create a new weapon for himself. He took his old Quarterstaff and recreated it's design. This allows him to use a weapon without the force. He hopes it will work exactly how he wants it to. As it is a reminder of his home land and a reminder of why he left. He also made it to combat light sabres or other melee weapons if he is unable to use the force or if he doesn't have his light sabres. He added some capacitors inside the main component of the staff right in the centre while adding some micro-emitters along the whole weapon. This allows it to take and dish out electricity. Too much and it will overload the power cell. By adding the Plasma filament he is able to combat light-sabres. Because of the plasma flimaent being added to the to the song-steel used for the staff it became to hard to handle except for the songsteel handle he created for it covered with leather which was added to allow for Rex to use to weapon like a normal staff.
