Description: The Stahlritter are a unit of Force-Sensitive Shards, who have been implaneted into ARD X-1 Human Replica Droid bodies. They are able to utilise the advantages of HRDs while also being able to draw upon the Force. Unsurprisingly, they follow the Dark Side. After all, they once signed up for a campaign to subjugate the Galaxy, and their present boss is a Lawful Evil warlord. While there is little malice in what Enyo does, she views most organic beings as pieces on a board. Unless it concerns her family, she views morality as a leash.

Thus they are free of moral scruples, making them ruthless in combat. However, they frown upon petty acts of cruelty. On the whole, Shards, being an unusual time of creature with an extremely long life span, are not very emotional creatures. The fact that Onyx was so consumed by emotion was evidence that something was wrong with the supreme leader of the Contingency. On paper, they still follow a code similar to that of the Iron Knights, but time, various moral compromises and the influence of the Dark Side have twisted it.

They regard themselves as successors of this ancient order, though they now refuse to fight alongside Jedi or cooperate with them. Indeed, they a bit of a grudge against them. This stems from the fact that the Jedi Council excommunicated Jedi Master Aqinos for teaching Shards the ways of the Force, despite the aid they rendered to a Jedi team during the Arkanian Revolution. Some of the older Shards also lay some of the blame for the rise of Palpatine on the Jedi's doorstep. A cynic - or realist - would say that this is a convenient rationalisations for the Contingency's schemes.

The Stahlritter are all trained in the use of lightsabres, though their mechanical bodies impose certain limitations on them. The Shards are trained in the use of the five classical styles of lightsabre combat, as well as those introduced during the era of Luke Skywalker's New Jedi Order. Their droid bodies keep them from utilising Ataru that well though, as they are too heavy to leap about and pull off intense acrobatics. In terms of Force use, they specialise in Telekinesis, Protection Bubble, Tutaminis, Force Stasis, Force Flash and precognitive abilities. The most senior members are Opal and Pariba. Of the two, Opal is the eldest and most experienced. She was one of the Shards who were trained by the Jedi who taught her people the ways of the Force. She escaped Palpatine's purge and followed Onyx into exile. She follows a modified version of the Iron Knight code.

Able to coordinate their actions in a near-seemless manner, the Stahlritter are most effective when they act as a unit instead of lone wolves. Above all, they are a good support force for assault troops. The Stahlritter are connected to Garnet, a member of the original group of Shards that escaped Emperor Palpatine's purge and sought refuge on the unknown world of Tartarus deep inside the Rishi Maze. Considered young by the standards of her people, Garnet followed the party line. But she developed doubts when she realised just how far gone Onyx and his inner circle were. To avert calamity, she teamed up with Enyo and helped foil his plans. It was she who swayed the Stahlritter and convinced them to join Enyo and her associates.

However, Garnet does not see herself as a minion, but as an associate and a partner, who still pursues her own projects. She is given tasks and roles, but is generally left free to interpret how to reach those goals. Her methods therefore can be quite eclectic and those under her command find it hard to see the purpose or reason in her actions until they come together. She has a keen strategic and tactical mind when given time to consider the situation. She lacks the disdain for organics some of her kind feel and is opposed to anti-droid groups or those who have genocidal tendencies. She has tried to shape the Stahlritter to be in line with her views. They are associated with the Splinters of the Void's Maw, a Shard group led by Garnet. Each Stahlritter swears a solemn vow to resist the Trapped Ones. This is the name of the elder horrors that dwelt beyond the veil and corrupted Onyx and his collaborators, driving them to madness. Indeed, they are quite dedicated to ensuring the eldritch abominations remain trapped.

COMBAT INFORMATION:
Unit Size: Medium
Unit Availability: Unique
Unit Experience: Elite.
Combat Function: The Stahlritter are a unit of Force-Sensitive Shards. Their combat function is that of Force warriors. They are commonly deployed in concert with more regular forces as a support unit. They are well-coordinated, well-trained in lightsabre combat and and able to use the Force. Using their lightsabres, they can protect allies by reflecting blaster bolts and fight opponents in melee. They can also summon Force barriers, absorb energy attacks, use telekinesis, stun or blind opponents and sabotage security cameras. Use of HRD bodies gives the Shards incredible strength. As they feel no pain they can use their bodies as weapons or to smash through barriers. The same bodies make them extremely resilient. An HRD can take several blaster bolts to the head or chest before the unit fails. Limbs can be severed and severe damage done, but they will press on regardless.

However, the aforementioned HRD bodies also make them vulnerable to ion or electrical attacks. Armour and gadgets make them more resistant to a degree, but powerful ion blasts or Force Lightning attacks can damage vital systems, even if their bodies are not destroyed. If their bodies are destroyed or disabled, the Shards are extremely vulnerable since they depend on their mechanical bodies to move and interact with the world around them.

Their droid bodies prohibit them from using electricity-based Force powers such as Force Lightning, Destroy Droid etc. These would backfire on them and thus cause them harm. While they are fast, their robotic endoskeletons prevent them from pulling off the kind of acrobatics Force-users are known for. HRD bodies are powerful, but in the high tech modern galaxy they are not invulnerable. Blaster bolts to the head or chest can damage or disable them, as can powerful explosives and especially lightsabres, since their skeletons are only made of durasteel.

The Stahlritter have access to Fenris Cyber Mastiffs. These mechanical hounds are extremely fast, ferocious and terrifying at close range. Their agility, strength and ferocity makes them fearsome melee combatants. Moreover, they make good scouts. However, they lack ranged weapons and thus need to get into melee range before they can hurt an enemy. With a limited brain, the Fenris carries out orders it is given, but shows little adaptability or initiative. It will charge an enemy by the most direct way. Being a droid, the Fenris is vulnerable to ion, lightning and other droid killers.

Strengths:

  • Elite soldiers and Force warriors.
  • Merger. They have the strength, resilence, tirelessness and speed of HRDs, but due to being Force-Sensitive Shards they can also utilise the power of the Force.
  • Access to Fenris cyber hounds. They are very fast, strong, ferocious and frightening. They make good scouts and mechanical attack dogs.
Weaknesses:
  • Lack heavy weapons or integrated heavy support.
  • They are a pure Force infantry force, with a focus on medium and close ranged combat. They are good at smiting what is in front of them and do that well, but are at a disadvantage at far range. The Shards use droid bodies to move and interact with the world. This means they cannot use electricity-based Force powers.
  • The Fenris is vulnerable to ion, has limited intelligence and lacks ranged weapons, meaning it has to get into melee range to hurt an opponent.
Historical Information:

During the last years of the Old Galactic Republic the silicon based lifeforms known as Shards were discovered on the distant world of Orax. These innocuous crystalline lifeforms were immobile, living in caves for all their long lives, communing telepathically. Those who discovered them found that they could be mounted in special droids and thus be able to leave their homeworld and explore. Some Shards even had the ability to use the Force, but they were not accepted by the Jedi Order, even though some did become Iron Knights.

Indeed, the Jedi Master who taught them about the Force was excommunicated. The fall of the Old Republic brought the Galactic Empire to power. Emperor Palpatine distrusted any Force Users he could not control, and so he launched a purge. Many Shards were destroyed and they were banned from being uplifted into droid bodies. A number of them survived by going into hiding alongside their Jedi teacher.

A former Iron Knight, who would eventually become known as Onyx, escaped the purge, along with a few of his brethren. Vanishing into the unknown, they eventually reached the Rishi Maze. There they found the remains of an ancient Dyson Sphere, and a ring world, fed by the power of the massive structure. At first, they focused their efforts on building a new civilisation, a sanctuary away from a Galaxy that had turned on them. But over time a desire for revenge took precedence. Here in the ring world they found the tools to accomplish it - or so they thought, at any rate. They were also corrupted and probably driven insane by the whispers of what lay inside the Sphere.

Regardless, they built war machines and gathered other Shards to form an armada. They called themselves the Contingency. Flash forward almost a millennia, and they launched the Incursion, a series of skirmishes against various galactic powers that ultimately led to the rather strange Battle of Tartarus. Long story cut short, the Contingency's doomsday device was destroyed and the insane Onyx was slain by a rather unlikely coalition.

One of its members was Enyo Typhos. Ironically, she had briefly been an ally of the Contingency, after being recruited by one of their agents, a Shard called Garnet, who had been dispatched to find allies among the beings of the Galaxy. Being an unrepentant, selfish opportunist, Enyo used the Contingency's resources to deal a powerful blow to her creators in her ongoing war against Archangel. Then turned on her allies when she no longer needed them - and after discovering the machine's true purpose.

Deciding that her leaders were too unstable and probably under the control of cosmic horrors, Garnet joined her. While the Contingency's plot was foiled, not all of its forces were destroyed. In the aftermath of the battle, Enyo and Garnet reached out to some of the scattered Contingency forces. Naturally, many did not want to join two turncoats who'd helped ruin the dream to make the Galaxy pay for atrocities committed almost a millennia ago.

Among those who joined were an elite group of Force-sensitive Shards called the Stahlritter, who had worked closely with Garnet during the buildup to the Battle of Tartarus. The oldest of the Stahlritter had been part of the original group that discovered Tartarus, while the more younger ones had been recruited when the Contingency began to involve itself with galactic affairs again. Like her, they had been sent out to sow the seeds of chaos and prepare for the rise of the Contingency, participating in various skirmishes. Thus they had not been on Tartarus for the last years before the Incursion, when the corruption really set in. After participating in strikes like the attacks on Sullust and Commenor, they returned to the ring world for the battle.

And realised just how bad things were. When the galactic coalition invaded Tartarus, the Stahlritter fought, but ultimately pulled out and went dark. Their plans for revenge had been undone. In the aftermath, their former handler reached out to them. Tense negotiations ensued. Enyo and Garnet had helped thwart the Contingency's plans, but their leaders had also failed them. Adrift and devoid of purpose, the Stahlritter agreed to joined their cause, though not as mindless drones. As a gift and to augment their capabilities, these Shards were implanted into HRD bodies. Enyo had acquired from pillaging Archangel's resources. These bodies make them extremely strong, fast and durable, though they suffer from the usual machine vulnerabilities.

Though disillusioned by their dead leaders, they still felt distrust for most non-Shards. Thus they kept themselves aloof from the ranks and file of the Iron Fist Consortium. Training with Enyo and Garnet enabled them to enhance their powers, making them a more formidable fighting force. The Stahlritter fought at Enyo's side at Kashyyyk, Thyferra and Alderaan, where the grim Cyborg supported the Sith Empire's efforts as a private contractor.

Moreover, they were part of her strike force when she took the fight to Archangel. There they faced some of their corrupted brethren, as Archangel had aligned itself with Contingency remnants. The battle was a fierce one, but ended with their new patron victorious. The Stahlritter still strive to find other members of their decimated species, and bring them into the fold. They also want to return to SX-192, the Contingency system, and salvage what is left of the technology their former leaders built.

Enyo Typhos Enyo Typhos

Hello. Very, very, very, very sorry about the delay in this review. My time on the board has been limited and all over the place. Let's get to this and finish this quickly.

Everything here seems good and very well written. Only thing I can see that needs changing is this:
Sub Modification 02.27.2019
Spoiler
Spoiler
I was recently reminded that Codex subs cannot have hidden text, but are allowed to have hidden images.

Codex Standardized Rules (General Submission Guidelines)
Spoilers and Tabs are not permitted in submissions, however, images can be placed in Spoilers. This is the only exception. Text should not be hidden.
You can just copy and post the changes in your response to me as that seems the easiest way.

Those spoilers are old submod logs from the time when Codex staff edited subs for members ('equipment X has been added' etc.) That was several Codexes ago.

Regardless, I've removed that content. All the changes made by me are in my submod log post:

Summary:

Updated equipment, fixed broken links, added permission field, updated affiliation and description.
