For every unmet need a product and for every niche a variant. The Globex Corporation, for all your material needs.
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
Flexible and compact in equal measure, Standard Manufacturing Templates are an elegant solution to the problem of interstellar supply chains. Instead of attempting to produce everything themselves, the Globex Corporation uploads new designs to the HoloNet and local subnets, allowing anyone with the requisite manufacturing capabilities to download an STM and start producing - just as soon as the fee is paid, of course.
This extends far beyond civilian products and even small arms - Globex has made public designs for nuclear weapons, warships, and advanced bioengineering technologies with no oversight whatsoever. To some, this may seem dangerously irresponsible, but Globex knows better; the free market is more than capable of self-regulating in such matters. Besides, when have Sith Warlords and the like ever struggled to arm themselves?
Independent planetary governments, on the other hand, have historically often struggled to get their hands on updated weaponry for the purposes of self-defence. Now all they need is a schematic downloaded off the HoloNet (and advanced manufacturing facilities/expertise)!
- Intent: Adaptable schematics for the Open Market.

- Primary Source: General Manufacturing Construct
- Manufacturer: The Globex Corporation
- Affiliation: The Globex Corporation
- Market Status: Open-Market
- Model: Standard Manufacturing Templates
- Modularity: Immense; SMTs can be produced for everything from cheese graters to star destroyers. File sizes depend on the complexity of the schematic in question. SMTs are specifically designed to be far more adaptable than regular (i.e., 'static') schematics.
- Production: Mass-Produced
- Material: Ones and Zeroes.
- Standard Manufacturing Templates are compact software packages that hold both a schematic and the data points required to adapt the schematic to shifting consumer requirements, resource shortages (or an abundance of nonstandard materials), and similar parameters. There are few hard limits on the level of customisation, but SMTs should be assisted by proper AI or organics for particularly major changes.
- SMTs can be easily transmitted over the HoloNet and local networks. Most Globex products are available in DRM-locked SMTs; the fees are generally quite reasonable to discourage slicing and competition. Other corporations can produce SMTs in exchange for a service fee.
- SMTs can be gathered into cohesive Databanks for increased ease of use. Such Databanks are an excellent starting point for creating entirely new designs, though this naturally requires a great deal of relevant technical expertise or a sufficiently intelligent AI overseer.
- Standardised Adaptability: Standard Manufacturing Templates are schematics capable of altering themselves to suit different purposes (e.g., turning a blaster rifle into a charric), use local resources (e.g., building an airspeeder out of copper due to shortages), etc.
- Idiots Will Be Idiots: Standard Manufacturing Templates provide instructions. Following instructions is not a universal skillset.
