[>] While the idea of getting hit by a metal hand might seem tough and hardcore to some, it really isn't.
[>] The droid was outfitted with padded limbs to reduce the pain inflicted when the droid hit its intended target.
[>] Modular Design
[>] Since the droid was built with modularity in mind it is very easy to change its programming.
[>] That is to say, from the modules listed above and only the modules listed above.

Weaknesses:
[>] Training AI: Dummy
[>] This droid was built with exercise in mind. It doesn't go beyond that.
[>] An STD unit is not meant to be a live fire combatant. It just wasn't built for that.
[>] It could in theory be sent into a live fire situation, but its odds would be one to a million.
[>] Expensive to replace
[>] While the droid comes with a program meant for blasters, it is advised that users apply a shield.
[>] No really, we're quite clear on that. Andromeda only provides the first charge. You replace them yourself.

DESCRIPTION

The Standardized Training Droid (or STD for short) was a droid made for exercise and the practice of martial arts as well as basic lightsaber moves and defences. It came about after Kaili Talith saw a lack of droids that really provided an opposition that catered to her own ability in hand-to-hand combat. Once she introduced her idea to the rest of her engineers they would all agree that if modified it was a product they could introduce to the public, and while it most certainly skirted around the lines of what Andromeda stood for as a company it was still something they felt was an acceptable compromise as long as measures were taken to ensure the harm it caused was kept to a minimum.

As such they installed padding into ever nook and cranny they could find where resistance was likely to be met. Which was to say the parts of the limbs that were the most likely to hurt a person. Legs, feet, arms and hands mostly, but a softer layer was introduced to back and front as well simply for the sake of it.

Once the padding was installed they got to work on fleshing out a droid intelligence that worked from two different settings, fixed and dynamic. The fixed setting keeps the challenge rating stuck on the same level until changed where as the dynamic setting learns from what its opponent was doing and adapts accordingly. The dynamic mode always start at a dummy level before adapting to a higher level as the practitioner grew in skill and ability.

There is also a voice module installed, although its toggleable. This is for the sake of expediting learning and to let the user know what it is that the droid is doing. A very common scenario for this is to place the droid in a spot next to you as you mirror its movements. It will point out flaws in the users technique and praise it when progress is being made. This too is toggleable.

In the end, the STD is quite simply a droid meant to induce excitement and perhaps a bruise or two from the practioner, but never outright kill them.
