DESCRIPTION
When Trigonus industries began its operations, it only had a few mobile manufacturing facilities. It needed to find a niche that it could service without devoting too many manufacturing bays, setting its initial build limit at 750 meter-long vessels. Maldor came up with the concept of a system defense cruiser that could be used to maintain control over mildly distrusted areas, defend a system against attack, or be used as an inexpensive pseudo-star destroyer to bulk up attack fleets. The 'Star Blossom' was created to fit the bill, named for a beautiful but inexpensive flower found in the Mecetti Province of the Tapani Sector. Designed to be cheap to build, but quick and maneuverable, it sacrifices internal hangar capacity in order to keep its size and mass low. While well-defended with laser cannons, the frame would only support a few capital-scale turbolasers. To help make up for this deficiency, long-range turbolasers were selected so that the ship could begin engaging targets before it was in range of their weapon systems. Operating alone, the Star Blossom makes for a good patrol cruiser and defensive platform. In packs, it presents a serious difficulty for enemy fleets. Best of all, it can be had for just 15 million credits, making it affordable for even small nation-states or planetary governments. Because of its limited manufacturing capacity, Trigonus Industries allows other manufacturers such as Santhe Sienar to construct and sell the ship if they pay a modest 5% licensing fee.
