STRENGTHS
  • Systems Carrier - Each Starbird-class maintains an extensive hangar capacity and is capable of deploying up to fourteen fighter wings organized into three squadrons per wing. Additionally, these vessels are capable of maintaining and deploying five wings of support craft, each organized into three squadrons per wing, as well as being capable of ferrying multiple regiments and modular garrisons to assist in reinforcing or securing a target planet or system.
  • Star Defender - This trio of vessels was designed with defense first and foremost in mind rather than focusing on other aspects. This has resulted in a vessel with increased shield generators, reinforced hull plating, anti-ordnance point defenses, as well as electronic countermeasures, and anti-starfighter ordnance.
  • Weapon Rotation Drives - A design that was first seen on the Hapan Battle Dragon and was utilized to rotate weapons forward whilst others recharged their capacitors. Whilst the capacitors on the Starbird-class are more modern, the design element was kept to more rapidly cycle through the various weapon systems available to the vessel to bring a greater balance of firepower to bear against a target.
  • Breacher Ordnance - These weapon systems, originally developed by the Chiss Ascendancy, are known to produce an acidic glob upon impact with a target or denoted before striking a surface. The acidic glob has the potential to eat away at the metal hulls of vessels to weaken them to follow-up weapons fire.
  • Pulse Mass Mines - A formidable weapon developed by the Hapans that has seen widespread deployment on Galactic Alliance vessels since the Hapes Consortium joined the Alliance. These weapons are known to create a mass shadow effect similar to those generated by a standard Gravity Well Projector commonly seen on Interdictor-class Starships.
WEAKNESSES
  • Command Bridge - The Starbird-class shares similar design aesthetics to that of the MC75 Star Cruiser and the Raddus-class Star Defender in regards to the location of the command bridge. Located at the end of the ventral outrigger fin is the primary command pod that houses the bulk of the bridge and additional command systems for the vessel; a precarious location makes for a tantalizing target with the potential of disabling the vessel were the pod itself be disabled or destroyed.
  • Weapon Rotation Drives - A Hapan-designed system that was utilized to rapidly cycle through weapon systems due to the outdated capacitors that were utilized at the time. Though the capacitors of the Starbird-class are more modern, the feature was carried over to provide a means by which the vessel could rapidly bring to bear the myriad of weapon systems that it carries. However, if these drives become damaged, the drive itself would become inoperable and would prevent the weapons from being cycled into position; potentially preventing the vessel from utilizing its heavier weapon systems.
  • Sluggish - These vessels were designed with defense, armaments, and hangar capacity in mind resulting in a vessel that has a markedly slower speed when compared to similarly sized vessels or those that were designed with that focus in mind. It is unlikely that these vessels could easily chase down an enemy vessel let alone outpace one if required.
  • Prow Hanger Bays - The primary hangar bays are located towards the front along the prow of the vessel and were designed to ensure that the Starfighter complement carried by the vessel could be easily deployed and retrieved. However, this can also result in a potential scenario in which an enemy transport could utilize this to board the vessel, or, as is more likely, damage to the prow would render the vessel incapable of deploying or recovering its complement of starfighters or support craft.
  • Ungainly - As a result of its focus on defensive capabilities as a priority, the Starbird-class is not known for being nimble which has resulted in a notable lack of overall maneuverability. As such, it often takes time and distance for these vessels to properly execute a maneuver that other vessels may have an easier time to execute.
DESCRIPTION
With a new dawn of conflicts comes the need to ensure that the capabilities of one's might remain formidable and are poised to strike true. The implementation of a new modernization program has already rapidly overhauled and produced new warships for the Galactic Alliance, and it was only a matter of time until it set its attention upon the aging Dreadnoughts. As the Plenipotentiary-class Dreadnoughts were decommissioned, new designs were developed to take their place and be deployed to further secure the Galactic Alliance and push back against the encroaching darkness of the Sith Order. The Starbird-class Star Defenders are a trio of vessels that were designed to take the place of the older dreadnoughts and represent a collective design that features elements and aesthetics of the Core of the Galactic Alliance, the Chiss Ascendancy, and the Hapes Consortium. Each vessel was designed to prioritize defensive capabilities over all other aspects, resulting in a hardier and well-defended vessel that was just as equally capable of striking out an enemy.

Many of the weapon systems on the Starbird-class are designs that were originally developed by the Chiss Ascendancy or the Hapes Consortium and have been installed on these vessels as a sign of commitment and cooperation between the three elements that make up the whole of the Alliance. Some of these aspects can be seen in the inclusion of the weapon rotation drives that are often utilized on Hapan Battle Dragons to cycle weapon systems forward whilst others recharge their capacitors; and though the capacitors of the Starbird-class are more modern and up-to-date, this system is utilized to allow the vessel to more easily and rapidly move weapon systems into specific firing sectors. However, these systems retain the original drawback, in which damage to these drives can potentially lock the weapon systems in place and prevent them from cycling. Other systems utilized by the Starbird-class are those such as the Chiss Breacher Ordnance, which produces a glob of acid that can potentially eat away at the metal hulls of enemy vessels in an attempt to weaken them to follow-up weapons fire.

As the design of the vessel emphasized focus on defense, armaments, and hangar capacity, the Starbird-class is not known for its speed and is unlikely to run down an enemy vessel let alone manage to outpace one if required. Likewise, the heavier defensives and added weight of equipment essential to support the various Starfighter and Support Squadrons have also resulted in a marked decline in its overall maneuverability. This generally means that the vessel requires both distance and time to properly execute a maneuver that may be more easily produced in a vessel designed to be more nimble. The overall external design of the vessel also shares similar design aesthetics to that of the Raddus-class Star Defender and the older MC75 Star Cruiser, specifically when it comes to the location of the command bridge; located at the end of the ventral outrigger fin to provide the commander a wider view of a conflict. The precarious location of the command pod can potentially result in the vessel becoming disabled or inoperable if this section were damaged or disabled as it makes for a tantalizing target.

The Starbird-class Star Defender represents the Galactic Alliance's continued commitment to defense over aggression and provides the means to further that mindset. Its capabilities to secure a system, both by deploying ground forces en masse with modular garrisons, or seizing and maintaining control of the skies with its complement of Starfighters provide the Alliance with a vessel that can be counted on to secure the system of a longtime member world; or prevent a system from falling into the hands of a hostile force. Its overall design inspired by multiple internal cultures also shows the varied culture of the Galactic Alliance itself as systems continue to bind together to face greater threats.
