SETTING INFORMATION
Space Station Name: Station RS-32. Unofficially called Primal Base. Enyo disapproves of the nickname.
Station Model: Shadowport.
Classification: Shadow Port.
Location: Raevana. Located on an asteroid.
Affiliation: Enyo Typhos, Iron Fist Consortium, Typhos Clone Family, Splinters of the Void's Maw.
Population: Moderate.
Demographics: Mixture of humans, near-humans and aliens. Outlaws and outcasts seldom have racial barriers. Moreover, the station is located on the far Rim, which contributes to a significant alien presence. Kraal and a couple Shards are among the more exotic inhabitants.
Accessibility: It is a shadow port and thus populated by people who do not like to attract attention. Moreover, Raevana is a remote world and inhospitable to sentient life. However, it is moderately well-known in the underworld. Pirates, outcasts and the like who operate in the Tingel Arm will be knowledgeable about it via word of mouth. Its owner is a domineering, paranoid Cyborg. Outsiders who want to come aboard require the appropriate access codes.
Traffic: Low. Traffic is low because the station is quite isolated. However, trade is profitable.
Description: The blandly named Station RS-32 is a Shadow Port built into the rock of an asteroid in the Ancona System. The most noteworthy planet in this star system is called Raevana. On the surface it is a tropical paradise. In reality the planet is a death trap populated by dangerous creatures. The system is fairly remote, which makes it a good place for a criminal organisation to set up operations. Officially the station has no connection to Archangel Research and Design. Archangel is, after all, a legitimate droidmaker that is dedicated to developing cutting-edge droid technology and cybernetics for the betterment of sentient civilisation. It has no connection to organised crime and has a clean sentient rights record. Its former owners also were not secretly HRDs plotting to exterminate organic life.
Suspiciously specific denials aside, the station is run by the Iron Fist Consortium, a criminal mafia and paramilitary organisation. The Iron Fist was founded by Enyo to provide her with the means to launch an insurrection against her creators and take control of Archangel. Now the group is a de facto subsidiary of the corporation. Enyo has put a puppet HRD director in charge of the company, but controls both organisations. The station provides the illicit side of her power base with a place to conduct their business away from the prying eyes of law enforcement organs, Jedi crusaders and so on. The station is well-hidden and protected by paramilitary forces. Significantly, all senior personnel in the facility are secretly HRDs. This especially applies to those responsible for life support. Conveniently droids do not need to breathe. Nor does Enyo.
The shadowport has been built into the asteroid and easily blends into it. Thus casual observers may easily miss it at long range. The base features a variety of living, storage and mercantile areas. It has become a haven for smuggling and other ilicit activities in the far Rim along the Tingel arm. It is a good place to bring in loot. Needless to say plenty of shady characters can be found among its residents. Enyo leases space to those willing to pay tribute. She is both a good and a terrible landlady. A good one because she is very scrupulous about not overtaxing her tenants and quite reliable. A terrible one because she is an extremely thorough account and obsessed with deadlines. Those who do not pay on time are punished swiftly. Sometimes they return, and are suddenly more compliant and rather mechanical. Enyo uses Stecher wasp droids to spy on residents and visitors of the asteroid base. After all, while trust is good, control is a lot better, and knowledge is power.
The station offers a brilliant view of Raevana. Sadly, the planet is quite a death trap, despite looking like a perfect vacation spot. The Rebel Alliance, Firemane and Eldorai ultra-reactionaries have all tried to settle on and exploit this virgin paradise. It has not gone well for any of them. The ruins of the city the 'True Eldorai Matriarchy' tried to build are still as fresh as the corpses inside them. Enyo and her confederates have settled for launching expeditions to acquire samples of the indigenous flora and fauna for study. These ventures tend to have a high attrition rate. Some of Raevana's plants contain mind-altering substances. The Consortium has started harnessing them as a drug to sell on the market. The planet is also the home of ferocious predators and all manners of parasites.
POINTS OF INTEREST
The Docks - Docking bays, storage, repair services and similar facilities can be found here. The bays are able to accommodate ships up to corvette size. Approaching vessels must provide access codes to flight control, lest they be targeted by high-powered laser cannons. The bays have a containment shield and offer basic services. The price of renting a hangar depends on the size of the spaceship being stored there. Visitors can purchase better service, such as protection, in return for credits. This service is actually reliable because the Iron Fist uses HRDs for it. A service depot near the docks offers re-fuelling and repair services. More illicit aid is also available, for a price.
Terminus Salvage - pawn shop, junk dealer and salvager. The workshop is located not far from the docks. Trades and accepts anything from scrap metal to antiquities. The reputation of the owner is very questionable.
Serene Stays: The name is ironic since a few murders have been committed here. But the cleaning crew is good at getting the blood out of the bed sheets and the carpets. Regardless, this is a place for people to get bed and board if they plan on staying for a night or longer. Standard service is basic. Those who can pay get access to special features, such as medical care, 'entertainers' etc. The rooms are hardly deluxe, but it suffices for the typical scum and villainy that has yet to make a big break.
The Promenade - A long corridor that has essentially been turned into a bazaar. Here the merchants of the underworld peddle their wares, many of them illicit in nature. Various stores and vendours can be found here. Visitors can purchase all manners of legal and illicit goods here, including exotic animals and psychelic plants from Raevana, military equipment, cybernetic augmentations, droids etc. Naturally there are also gambling dens and fight clubs. Enyo leases space to the merchants and extracts tribute. She keeps a careful eye on them to make sure she is not cheated. Her soldiers keep the peace, ensuring a reasonably safe environment. It helps that they tend to be very mechanical and thus cannot be bribed and do not take time off.
Warriors' Haunt - A fight club renowned for its grisly, brutal fights and occasional deaths. Participation in the matches is a good way for someone to catch the eye of a gang boss or pirate captain...if they do well and survive. Gambling often takes place at these events.
Velvet Pearl - a brothel that, since this is a port inhabited by criminals and mercenaries, does not need to mask its true nature behind a flimsy disguise such as a massage parlour. Enyo does not really understand the organic fixation with intercourse, finding it unhygienic. She responded very poorly when two of her siblings visited this establishment. It caters to both a male and female clientele. The brothel pays rent to Enyo, but is not directly controlled by her, which is why the work force has not been packed with HRDs. The place is clean and rare wood from Raevana has been put to use for chairs, booths and the like. It is run by a formidable Xioquo matron, who is rumoured to be a dark witch. She may have cursed a troublesome client.
Club Nachtigall - One of the main sources of entertainment on the port. The club is predictably seedy and attracts a shady clientele. It is one of the centres of the drugs trade, as there are a variety of exotic - and dangerous - plants on Raevana. Enyo privately disapproves of dancing girls, regarding them as unhygienic. She also sees slavery as inefficient. Thus many entertainers are HRDs, such as the Doppelgangers. This makes them particularly useful for spying on clients. The logo of the club is a nithingale.
Barracks - The dormitories and facilities of Enyo's security force are located here. The accommodations resemble those one would expect in a military facility. They are connected to the medbay, recreational areas and the armoury. Unauthorised personnel will not be granted access to this section.
Agricultural Sector - The shadow port is located far from home. Transports arrive regularly, but can be disrupted. Thus an advanced biodome has been set up, allowing the residents to grow their own food. It is largely automated, relying upon specialised droid labour. It gives the residents a degree of self-sufficiency.
Operations Centre - Serves command and control purposes. Port movements, communications, encryption, surveillance and other important matters are handled from here. A small army of technicians monitors all incoming and outgoing traffic. A backup command centre has been set up to make it more difficult for intruders to take over the facility. Should an intruder shut down life support in an area, this would actually be less problematic for Enyo since she does not need to breathe and many of her minions are droids. It would still be unfortunate for organics but that is just further proof that mechanical life is superior to flesh and blood beings. Access is warded by a heavy blast door and layers of biometric security. Moreover, there are turrets, motion sensors and surveillance cameras.
Research Sector - Access to this area is heavily restricted. The guards use lethal force against intruders. Laboratories are located here. One of the main tasks of the scientists is studying samples from Raevana. The planet has an extremely exotic - and dangerous - flora and fauna. Its varied plant life is particularly of interest to Enyo and her associated enterprises. Zakarias Vont, Enyo's pet mad scientist, has a laboratory here. Once a group of researchers tried to uplift a few captive Korhilli. This went poorly. Annoyed by the mess it caused, Enyo had the scientists processed.
Pacification Office - A jail run by Enyo's people. Cell doors are made out of Turadium and Force Cages are available for use. The prison is controlled by HRDs. The management is cold, efficient and impersonal. Gratuitous cruelty is not Enyo's style. She prefers processing prisoners into obedient droids. It is far more efficient than torturing or enslaving them. Sometimes mind-altering drugs are tested on captives. Gas can be released into the prison cells to prevent escape attempts. This may be standard poison gas or something more exotic such as coma or Hurthombric gas. Shock-filaments help stop would-be escapees. There is a processing machine in the innocently named 'Administration Room 9'.
Elysium - A special section of the barracks that contains the private quarters for Enyo and her siblings. The rooms are more utilitarian than luxurious, as Enyo believes that creature comforts produce sloth. However, they give the clones some privacy. Each room has a Holonet connection. All communication is heavily encrypted. The section also has a training room and a private armoury. Enyo's room is essentially an office with an attached library and meditation chamber. She is able to access any surveillance system to monitor what is going inside or outside the base.
The sanctuary's defences include a disruptor security beam. Snacks, candy bars and the like are not allowed because Enyo does not want her siblings to turn into unhealthy slobs. She insists on healthy food and is also extremely opposed to them smoking or drinking alcohol. Moreover, she disapproves of them having a sex life. Her siblings are trying to persuade to be more liberal in that regard since otherwise it will be impossible for them to have sort of fun. Elysium has its own life support system, which means that it will not be compromised by an intruder seizing the main control room. Enyo does not need to breathe, but her siblings do, and she actually values their lives. This section has a passageway that leads to a concealed hangar.
Mechanum - This used to be a temple of Ashira. From a certain point of view, it is still a place of worship...but not one the previous occupants would approve of, for its denizens belong to the cult of technology. Enyo gave it to Garnet and her Shard allies as a joke. Officially it is just a droid workshop, but it serves the Shards as a refuge.
Shards have little use for creature comforts, so the interior is quite utilitarian. Some of the Ashiran iconography can still be seen and the altar is still there. The crypt is now a sanctuary for artefacts and Shard crystals. The Splinters are aware that Enyo is monitoring thiem, but the shadowport is a useful place to network.
SECURITY
High
- The facility's greatest strength is its obscurity. Raevana is barely known. The fact that the planet is a death trap makes it unattractive for settlers. The shadowport features a basic deflector shield generator, which can cover it when in use. Similar to Verpine colonies, the port has repulsorfield shell system to protect it from other asteroids.
- Some quad laser cannon batteries, asteroid laser batteries and missile launchers have been set up on the rock, but the port relies on stealth rather than firepower. That said, the fact that the station is populated by outlaws can cause issues. Enyo has no tolerance for dissent or disorder.
- Motion sensors, lifeform scanners and security scanners have been set up. The sensors also include hyperwave signal interceptors. The asteroid has been seeded with surveillance equipment and early warning systems, enabling the base residents to be warned of intruders ahead of time.
- Listening devices in form of full-spectrum transceivers are scattered over the surface of the asteroid as well as on neighbouring ones and on the planet's moon Aquilia to triangulate signals and increase uptake. There is a subspace antennae on a satellite in orbit with a backup on the asteroid. Stecher wasp droids are deployed in and outside of the station.
- Security checkpoints have been set up at major junctures inside the facility. Keycard are required to access sensitive areas. Retinal scans are being mandatory to enter locations crucial to maintaining the station or under the direct control of Enyo. Examples would be the control centres, laboratories, barracks and so on. The retinal scanners can detect whether or not the retina they happen to be scanning belongs to a live person. All people in the facility are constantly watched by a network of security cameras and wasp droids. Auto-turrets have been set up over the hallways. They remain deactivated unless an intruder has been spotted.
- Enyo has a garrison of soldiers to protect the shadowport. These tend to be cyborgs or droids. Droids cannot be bribed, do not need to be paid and do not take hours off. There are also some Kraal warriors. The senior base personnel are HRDs. A few Awakened are stationed here sometimes. Fenris Cyber Mastiff are often on patrol. They are sometimes ‘skinned’ to appear like a regular dog, kath hound or other canine like animal.
- There is a redundant self-destruct system. The asteroid has been rigged with it. Senior personnel can trigger it with as little as a few seconds' notice. The code changes regularly and is long because droids.
Raevana has remained largely untouched for centuries. The fact that it is a planet where every creature seems intent on killing anyone who tries to settle on it might have something to do with this. Some worlds are just too hostile to endure. The Rebel Alliance realised this when they tried to put down roots after the fall of the Yavin base. One group of intrepid Rebels stumbled upon the planet after coming across references to an uninhabited jungle world that had been discovered by an Old Republic probe.
They believed they would be safe here. Indeed, the Imperials did not menace them. Sadly, the planet did everything in its power to theart them. Patrols sent into the jungle often returned battered and with a few members less, or not at all. Constant rain and heat made movement difficult, while the dense foliage impeded scanners. Moreover, they suffered from constant insect attacks, including a swarm of vicious crawlers. Supply crates left outside would be coated in moss by the morning, while fighters parked on the ground would be held fast by creepers in the morning. Moreover, wild animals and Korhilii attacked the base. Finally the Rebels had enough and left as fast as they could. However, the Rebel Alliance maintained a small hideout on one of the asteroids.
It was eventually abandoned after the fall of the Empire and the planet was forgotten about. Fast forward several centuries,. and a group of Eldorai came across the place. When the elves embarked on their second grand exodus, an extremist faction calling itself the True Eldorai Matriarchy decided that Raevana would be the perfect place to make the Eldorai great again. To them it was an untouched virgin paradise. A bounteouous filled with exotic life which their superior Eldorai brains would soon overcome. The pirates put up a fight, but were slaughtered. That was one good thing the True Matriarchy did. It claimed the asteroid outpost, then tried to build 'New Santaissa' on the planet's surface.
Here they would live in accordance with the wise teachings of Star Queen Tirathana VI, with all the racism, misandry, strict class barriers and arbitrary cruelty. The True Eldorai Matriarchy had ambitious plans for their presence on Raevana and within its entire star system. New Santaissa was supposed to be a shining example to all Eldorai, free from the pernicious influence of human monkeighs. Orbital shipyards and asteroid bases were supposed to be constructed in space. However, most of these plans came to naught. The grand city never took off. The most unfortunate colonists had to dwell in tents. The lucky got prefabricated buildings.
The Eldorai reactionaries built an asteroid base. They called it the Ashira's Eye. But it was a far cry from their grand plans. The Eldorai soon ran into problems, but for the first while everything was bearable. However, there was a schism in the faction. The bloodletting grew vicious. It was exacerbated by starvation and the threats of the jungle. As infighting intensified and the jungle closed in, most Eldorai leaders preferred to remain in orbit. Being sent to the surface came to be seen as a death sentence.
After a small civil war one group left with most of the transports in search of greener pastures. The remainder were stuck just as the jungle got really nasty. So when a ship showed up in orbit they asked for assistance. Enyo was happy to provide assistance. Her manner of doing so was processing those who she helped 'escape'. She would collect samples of the local ecology and Eldorai she managed to take captive. However, some cottoned on to her tricks and were left stranded or fled into the jungle to mostly die. A few managed to survive.
Like the Eldorai, Enyo sent an expedition into Raevana's jungles to determine the planet's potential. However, the task force suffered very heavy casualties. Other teams did not fare much better. So Enyo decided to cut her losses by rebuilding and expanding the asteroid base. Ashiran symbolism was removed, so was the Eldorai's religious shrine. The base was renamed Station RS-32 because Enyo hates cool names. Much to her annoyance, her siblings and several of her organic names started to call it Primal Base. It would serve as an outpost for her to conduct operations in the far rim as well as a place of trade with the underworld. Moreover, she would also be able to exploit Raevana. The asteroid base was reconceived as a shadow port.
However, while other underworld figures would be allowed to come to the place and trade and have a haven of sorts, Enyo was big on keeping the puppet strings in her hands. Thus most of the senior base personnel were secretly HRDs. When it came to getting the shadow port up and running, Enyo delegated a lot of the leg work to her clone 'sibling' Alexia Zarides, who was eager to display her skills and gain recognition. She was assisted by an HRD advisor. Thuella was responsible for setting up the surveillance infrastructure and laboratories. This gave the two young clones some responsibility. Defensive systems and potent sensor arrays were set up to ward the shadow port against outside intrusion, though on the whole it relied more on its obscurity for defence.
Unlike some facilities controlled by Enyo, the station is not staffed solely by droids. The reasons for this are cost, expertise and curiosity. Enyo sometimes sends organics down to the planet to see the effect the flora and fauna has on them. She calls it curiosity. Others would label it cruelty, but a machine is not cruel. It is efficient. She is quite interested in studying and exploiting the potential of Raevana's plant life, as some of it has psychedelic properties. The planet's wild life is also of interest to her.
