HISTORY AND IDEOLOGY
Stilicho Drumarch has been a Jedi his entire life, a life filled with war. From his youngest years he has been transient, no world known to him of which he could call home. In all those years crossing the galaxy at war Stilicho saw no stability, no peace, and no prosperity that could not be stripped away in the blink of an eye. He seen bloodlines ended with a single saber, continents stripped bear to fuel brutal war machines, and planet-cracking weapons that tore worlds asunder before his eyes. There were other men in his past who saw the same things, and saw an evil, cruel galaxy, where no faith in the Light was rewarded.
But Stilicho knew the truth: They were not doing enough for Ashla. More had to be done in the fight against the Sith than merely thwart them. There was a belief in the Ashlan Crusade that nurtured this idea. It would take everyone and everything perhaps, but it would be worth it.
Originating among a circle of Jedi generals at the outset of the Crusade, the ideology of Jedi Vanguardism quickly caught on in the armed forces. The Jedi Vanguards theorized the impossibility of expunging the Dark Side completely. Even Jedi Orders of the past who thought they had done so were proven wrong in catastrophic fashion. To a Vanguard, the power of Light over Dark should be to control it. Minimize it, lock it away, study it at arm's length... ensure it cannot escape and spread again, and prepare diligently for the possibility that it might.
Stilicho became a strong proponent early on, when the ideology was largely being developed by the likes of
Geiseric
and other powerful knights of the time. Eventually Geiseric's ideological ambitions were tempered by both his marriage and his rise to prominence in the Crusade, and Stilicho picked up the torch of Jedi Vanguardism. Fueled by his passion to serve the Light, and guided by his ambitions of a new, better galaxy, Stilicho rose in rank and brought the ideology up with him.Now as the Crusade begins to settle the lands it freed, and questions of nation-building arise, Stilicho can see the growing cracks, and intends to exploit them for the cause of the Vanguard.
