- Scalable Size: The Flycatcher is designed to be scalable for whatever debris might needed to be caught. It's internal durasteel cabling is designed to withstand the weight of entire freighters, and pull them into shipyards for recycling
- Flycatcher: The net is designed to be deployed, and dragged from, a superfreighter of significant size. Designed to drag behind and catch debris, the Flycatcher is capable of being stretched across several hundred meters of space if need be, and can be modified to thin the space between the netting to a microscopic level, allowing the catching of debris that might even miss
- Magnetic: The internal cables are magnetized, designed to draw smaller objects to them and bring the amount of metallic debris down.
- Just a net: This is not a weapon, nor a defensive measure. It's just a net. Any attempt to use this in a military manner could void the warrantee, and incur legal action on behalf of Si Tech
Following the fall of the Dark Empire, The Galactic Alliance was faced with a problem that much of the galaxy did face as well. Known as "Manaan Syndrome", orbital debris creating hazards to ship traffic became especially bad after the Battle of Coruscant, in which significant engagements left the orbit of the planet riddled with debris. Much of the planet's orbit was littered with ship parts. Si Tech, ever opportunistic, acquired the contract to clean up the planet's orbital space. This contract, however lucrative, presented a problem. While tractor beams could move larger, more visible debris, the extent of the battle left the orbit littered to an extent that tractor beam pick up would be impractical.
As such, the Flycatcher was developed. A massive, deployable net designed to be able to catch anything from microscopic scrap, to entire starships if need be. Designed to withstand the weight of towing up to frigate sized ships, the heavily reinforced net is the answer to the problem plaguing many planets in the modern age.
