Appearance:
Straid is a somewhat short man, fair skinned, if not pallid. His face holds patrician features hardened by a lifetime's stress, broken by a major scar going from forehead to chin down across the right eye. Short, combed back hair adds to a disciplined appearance, alongside a clean shaven face. His wardrobe is kept simple and utilitarian, consisting of mono-coloured long-sleeve button down shirts, simple dark trousers, and matte overcoats. Though his clothing is quite the opposite of extravagant, the craftsmanship that went into their creation remains quite apparent.
Coming from a privileged upbringing within the core worlds, he exhibits many of the mannerisms associated with high society, though a lack of the elitism that oft plagues those circles becomes apparent rather quickly through his very cordial and pragmatic nature that is more comparable to that of a common man. Biography:
Straid was born as an only child to a well-off family on Aurea. His father was a prolific glassworker renowned for carrying on the legacy of the planet’s legendary craftsmen while his mother held the position of Vice-Chancellor of the Crysallian University. Throughout his childhood he was groomed to enter into the glassworking trade after acquiring higher education. There was immense pressure to do well in his academic career, which he rose to match, completing most of the courses in high school with excellence.
However, despite his success he would turn down the opportunity to enroll at Aurea’s most prestigious University in favour of a career with the Republic’s military. His parents protested, yet he went ahead with his plans to follow in the footsteps of his grandmother, who had served as a military leader during the early years of the Republic’s expansion within the core. He enlisted at the military academy of Coruscant to be trained as an officer and, following his graduation, was deployed in charge of a platoon of soldiers on the north-eastern expanse of the Republic’s territory. Here he would aid in liberating many of the Colonies and Inter-Rim systems from their local warlord tyrants and later move on to aid in capturing and maintaining peace in and along the Indrexu Spiral, earning the nickname "Black Spiral Scourge" from the local pirate factions.
While his direct superiors did not think much of him due to his reputation for being an arrogant man who was driven by ambition, he gained favour with the higher ups, who kept laying praise on him due to his nigh spotless record of military engagements and the popularity he held with his troops. In time this earned him several promotions, bringing a full division under his command.
He would continue to serve with the military throughout many wars during the height of the Republic and well into its eventual fall during the cataclysmic final conflict with the emerging One Sith. This new threat was able to push into Republic territory quickly, taking most of the core worlds within a year of the war’s outbreak. Straid would suffer defeat after defeat at the hands of the Sith forces and as valiant a stand he kept making, the Republic never stopped losing ground. His division was eventually reduced to a fraction of its former size as reinforcements stopped coming, ultimately resulting in its re-structuring to bolster other divisions that were still capable of continuing the fight.
Left a commander without anyone to command, he retired prematurely to his home world following many years of dedicated service, instead becoming part of the Aurean government as one of its military advisors. Here he reunited with his parents, who, despite the sour terms they parted on, welcomed him back, if only tentatively at first. Over the near decade to follow that relationship would slowly heal and he would gain prominence on Aurea as a politician who was popular with the people due to his reputation as a war hero who fought for democracy until the bitter end.
With the formation of the Corellian Confederation, Straid has become part of an Aurean effort for more intergalactic recognition by accepting the offer to become a military advisor to the Confederation’s own Diktat.
