Huhtal looked down at his pack and smiled. In his ravished state the young boy could not understand why someone would throw away an entire loaf of bread. Dry and crusty, but barely any mold on it the loaf could feed Huhtal for three days. Breaking of a piece and stowing the rest in a pack beside him, the boy sat casually at the side of the road to enjoy his meal and watch passerby on the street.
A freighter flew overhead throwing dust into the air and onto the stalls of the peddlers lining the streets of the makeshift spaceport. Huhtal could not recall the port’s or even the planets name, all he knew was that the days were hot and dry. Traders, smugglers, pirates and the occasional Jedi had passed through the port over the last few weeks, at least from what Huhtal had seen.
A commotion between a shopkeeper and a passerby caught Huhtal’s attention. The boy couldn’t make out what words were being exchanged, but things seemed to be getting heated. Not wanting to get caught up in trouble Huhtal turned to pick up his pack and leave.
Gone. Huhtal wanted to kick himself. He had been so busy watching the market that some other street rat had pilfered his pack and his precious bread.
